Oh poor wretched naysayers, Planxty are the most soulful and impressive of the Holy Trinity of the Celtic Revival (Planxty, the Chieftains, the Bothy Band). Egos? These boys are humble pie in proportion to their power, talent, and influence. Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, and Liam O'Flynn are as consummate musicians as one might find anywhere.
I wish they had used the Hothouse Flowers doing the Lakes of Ponchartrain instead of that interminable rendition of "As I Roved Out." I liked his sort of Burt Jansch bad-in-a-good way vibe, but one or two verses would have sufficed!
Hear hear, a good chunk of the documentary taken up by David Kitt and his ego, give us a break. He is then followed by a brief clip of the Bothy Band, talk about going from Sunday league football to the Champions League final in one fell swoop!!
Blackwind: not sure of name of this song, as far as I can recall its on the P Brady solo recording "Welcome Home Kind Stranger", I usta have it on vinyl and its one great recording. Not sure is it titled either "Monaghan Mare" or "Stewball". I for one dont like David Kitt, he's indulged way too long on this programme.

It is a good version, he took it and did it his way, as a singer should, well done dave...
Quite interesting. How one can take such a perfectly balanced tune and drag it out mercilessly. Quite a gift.
Why is andy not singing his wonderful version of i Roved Out ?this guy just mangles a beautiful song.
Mangles is the operative word, its a hard song to sing and this guy makes it hard to listen to as well.

David Kitt? Sorry, but I have heard drunks on a Saturday night sing better than that.
Agreed. He's not good at all. No charisma, no spark.
Shocking to put him into this.
Don't know why people are having a go at Kitt's singing, he has a fine voice. He's doing well here at a slow a stately tempo. Yes shades of Bert.
I love it

I have an autograph from P. Keenan.
Over 8% of a planxty documentary is David kitt telling the least interesting story I have ever heard and playing a very average song. Why?
Can someone cut out Mr Kitt please? I (like everybody) want Andy's marvellous version. Kitt destroys the song.
Whose son is David Kitt???
Eartha’s?
aye he's some one's son so go easy. But it could have been shorter couldn't it? Interference? That was appropriate.
whats the song paul brady is singing in the pub? just after andy is singing?
the shamrock shore

I agree wholeheartedly. Bert Jansch was much better than David Kitt. Also, if you like Bert Jansch, then you should check out Nic Jones.
@ThePeacefulCat Comeone Bert sounded a hell of a lot better than that! The singing here is abysmal.
*playing a song very averagely
Troll.
Lol @ chunnyman, isnt this guy WICKED?! If I was a musical impressario and this bumbling gawm arrived in to me I'd run him!
i agree with the first poster. atrociously limp wristed version
Dave Kitt - you've totally destroyed the song! What a dreadful bloody noise!!!
David Kitt's guitar is out of tune
