That was was always my kind of folk music. I went to all the festivals, with my tent and then girlfriend, from Dublin. My absolute favourite was Ballysadare. I think I attended three years, during the seventies. Simply brilliant music. I even was close to the stage, for a special guest.....Mr. Chuck Berry!!! I know you are saying, not , folk. But made up for by Planxty, The Bothy Band and Clannad, of course. Enjoy. Colm.
I nearly cried the night I saw this on RTE 2 (Irish TV). As the credits rolled I spotted a name of a guy I knew from some time previously, I rang RTE the next day, asked for him & got him on the phone & told him what I'd seen the night b4 was only awesome! I told him in turn to tell Leagues O'Toole it was only brilliant - he in turn told me that was what they're getting since it went out on-air. I just love what Andy says here near the end about the people that night "found something..." wow!
thank you so much for uploading this wonderful docu on Planxty, my all-time favourite Band along with the Beatles & The Dead Leagues O`Toole`s biography "The Humours of Planxty" is a most highly recommended reading (Hodder Headline Ireland, 2006)
A revelation. If you're still there, thank you for posting this. The idea of Planxty supporting Donovan, well, it was funny then. But now? Unbelievable.
Well done LastPost, great post this. Joe Dolan of Sweeneys Men wrote a Trip to Jerusalem, recorded by Christy on Iron Behind the Velvet. Some great lines in it.

All brilliant musicians.I saw them in the Theatre Royal Waterford playing support to Donovan and what a nights entertainment by both.
Planxty was a great folk band. Liam was an exceptional piper. I would have walked halfway around the globe to sit in session with these musicians.

Lovely live recording at the end there since, to my knowledge, Planxty never recorded The Gold Ring. Fantastic!
No, it's not Smeceno Horo, it's a tune that Andy plays after his song "Baneasa' green glade' on the Cold Blow album.
Liam is an uilleann pipe master.
Saw "Planxty", "The Well Below the Valley", and "Cold Blow and the Rainy Night" in this video. But no other Planxty recordings.
I lov e Bulgarian Music
It's just plain fun, and there's lots of soul too!
THey play it wonderfully!!
Bulgarian Bagpipes are hardcore!!
Thanks for uploading this!
House in Properous is Andy Rynne's house, begob what musical history began in that house. A treasure.
No, it's Mominsko Horo, not Smeceno Horo. But , yeah, it's another Bulgarian tune.
I think it's "Smeceno Horo" from the Planxty album "After the Break" (1979).
Think the embankment, in Tallaght ( no more). Among this!!
Sorry about the line covering part of the video.
how brief was briefly awondar.....a one week stand..

Awww Liam.....
