hi.. Im 80 years old.in my mid 20s i met an extraordinary man by the name Rio Hovey. he had worked at Diamond Reo in Lansing mich for38 years. he named his daughter Reolia. A fine man, became a good friend, we shared a love for gelogy and gems. his crystal cluster collection would rival any in museums. he had searched and dug and collected all of them himself.. he was also an avid and miraculous gardner. seeing that old truck brought all the memories of Rio Hovey flooding back.. A wonderful gift. thank you..
An REO tanker is a one of a kind national treasure. These things are only seen up close in museums today or in rare historical photos. Hammering loose the back left axles wouild have made the tow job easier. When that guy has the truck restored and even manages to get it running and driving, he will be the envy of all truck drivers everywhere. REO trucks are extremely rare.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Great video. When I was a teenager (late 1950's) I drove a 1953 REO in the hay fields on my dad and uncle's farm. My aunt who turned 100 last year still has the truck.
One summer in the 70’s I stayed with my uncle in Canada. My objective was to improve my English and maybe help him at his quarry. My 2nd day he put me in a Diamond Reo 3 axle dump truck with. 6 cylinder gas motor. I was to spread gravel and that meant chaining the gate. The truck would wheelie every time ! Small cab I remember. I think the transmission was 5 main (2 levers) and 3 auxiliary. Thank you Andrew for sharing.

Imagine my thrill when I see it on your channel! Makes me think the world isn't so cruel after all! Keep up the good work!
That tanker was probably used for dust control in what appears to be a big sand/gravel pit from that drone footage near the end of the video. May have been near the end of it's useful life when put to work there. When I was a young boy, I used to love seeing an REO on the road, they were old timers even back in the late 60's -70's and rare to see . . . . lol. That was a lot of work to get'r outa there. Good job guys! I hope to see it in it's next life sometime.
Nice to see that someone remembers the old taillight lens trick for determining the vehicle age. Not sure when they stopped doing that but it has been quite a while, I think.
That tail/turn signal lens trick really only apply to factory installed OEM brand lenses. That fender mounted light was a universal light that could have been mounted on anything...including farm tractors.
That also only tells you when they started making the design. If it said 1965 on it, that would be the first year for it. If they used it for 5 years without changes, it would still say 1965 on it.
This is very likely a mid 1960's model. 64 being my best guess. Diamond came in 67 so it can't be younger than that as the hood logo changed, reo v8 logo was dropped for a diamond reo badge, and it's a gold comet which was not made by diamond. (Im paraphrasing a bit here)
10/2023 Update: This truck is still sitting in this guys front yard.

Two videos in 24 hours I’m in heaven!
Three years have passed without any follow up. Sure would be nice if we could get a up date on the progress being made on making this vehicle into a business sign as mentioned in this very popular video (27 million views now)

*JESUS himself Prophesied (PROPHET MOHAMED) in BIBLE with Title of (UPCOMING ANOTHER COMFORTER) & As (PRINCE OF THIS WORLD) --- (Hence Accept ISLAM now) ---*
*Revelation 22:7* Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book
*John 14:16* And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you *ANOTHER COMFORTER* that he may abide with you forever
*John 14:25* These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you
*John 14:26* But the *COMFORTER* which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name he shall teach you all the things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you
*John 14:30* Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the *PRINCE OF THIS WORLD cometh* and hath nothing in me
*John 15:26* But when the *COMFORTER* is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me
*John 16:7* Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away the *COMFORTER* will not come unto you; but if I depart I will send him unto you
*John 16:8* and when *HE* is come he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment
*John 16:12-13* I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when *HE* the spirit of truth, is come, *HE* will guide you into all truth: for *HE* shall not speak of himself but whatsoever *HE* shall hear, that shall *HE* speak and *HE* will show you things to come. He shall glorify me
Some Christians say that the Comforter mentioned in these prophecies refers to the Holy Spirit. They fail to realize that the prophecy clearly says that only if Jesus (p.b.u.h) departs then the Comforter will come. The Bible states that the Holy Spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus (p.b.u.h), in the womb of Elizabeth, and again when Jesus (p.b.u.h) was being baptized, etc. Hence this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h).The Spirit of Truth, spoken about in this prophecy also refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)
*NOTE* the word Jesus Christ and the word Christianity derived from word Christ both are man made words not divine.According to the original manuscript of bible which is in Hebrew or Aramaic jesus real name is MESSIAH or ESAU/ESAW
*Bible* as a whole (OT+NT) is a holy book of [jews/israel] it has nothing to do with Christianity
*Christianity* is a man made religion not divine
jesus christ is a man made name given to the *Messiah* of bible
*Messiah* of bible never claimed any religion by name of Christianity
TRINITY also a man made word not divine
jesus/messiah was a jew by cast a jew prophet who has been sent by GOD for guidance of jewish tribes only
*JOHN 1:11* He came unto his own(jews) and his own(jews) received him not.
*MATTHEW 15:24* i am not being sent but only unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
*MATTHEW 5:17* Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the LAW OF MOSES or the writings of the prophets(of Jews). No, I came to accomplish their purpose
Hence proved 4rm all above references that MESSIAH was a jew prophet came for guidance of jews only thats why HE Prophesied LAST *PROPHET MOHAMED* as an upcoming final comforter and upcoming prince of this world for all the nations and tribes of this world
*Hence Accept ISLAM Now*

Robert E. Olds made some fine trucks and vans. General Motors bought the car franchise. Still building the cars.
I can just imagine the look on his wife's face when he dragged that home, lol.
Dash Cam Das loool
She'll have to "roll with the changes."
So true man we see it as GOLD and they see it as OLD

That poor bastard already lost his wife if he tries to restore that he'll never have another wife 😄 LOL
Andrew you got to do a follow up video when he gets it running! I saw this on the market place and kept praying someone would go and save it. Too cool to let sit there and rot away. Imagine my thrill when I see it on your channel! Makes me think the world isn't so cruel after all! Keep up the good work!
That's the Spirit Hendryk.
"Makes me think the world isn't so cruel after all "
Made me laugh !
Hope he doesn't "sandblast and paint it" Would be great running with original patina.
I'd like to see the finished product when it gets done good luck and have fun.
I’d like to see a video on a restoration of the old cat shovel dozer

I was thinking to myself "why isn't anyone in the cab turning the steering wheel"
31:27 : Oh.
It didn't even have a steering wheel, no power assist, buried in dirt and seized, i'm surprised they made it turn after they got it moving period...
"why isn't anyone in the cab turning the *vice grips!!!"
HAHA!
Patrick Wagz 🇺🇸That’s what you call a muscle maker steering wheel!!! Hehehehe! I thought I was seeing things when they showed inside the cab. 😳
@@the.porter.productions Yep, ARMSTRONG steering!
Jack Fairweather The mid 90's.
(Im paraphrasing a bit here)
@@WorstChicken Yep. I saw a '64 and a '61 online and I couldn't tell the difference between them. Both had the same fender lights.
Well done boys, can't wait for the follow on video, good luck from Liverpool UK.
