Have both a highlander and an older pilot. Toyota v6 is a great engine no doubt (it’s very smooth and powerful) but I always prefer driving my pilot. The v6 in that too is smooth, but not as powerful and yet manages to be more fun and feels faster even if it isn’t. The j35 is so damn responsive in every situation it’s a gem of an engine
Well Toyota's V6 makes up to 301 hp and the J series makes up to 290 in the Acura MDX. The J series has always felt faster and more responsive to me. I think a Highlander would be faster from a roll because it's got more top end power. I like the sound of the J series better in a stock situation.
@@jacobneal5388 actually raced a 2018 odyssey with the 9 speed (lower trim ex model) in my moms 2017 highlander and the van beat it unfortunately. The new Hondas don’t feel as quick in my opinion as the Toyota v6 but the races proves different. I think they just don’t have good torque at the low revs and vtec makes a huge difference in the new engines. My older pilot feels the opposite where it feels more lively in the low revs and dies when you rev it out (they probably did that to use the same old tech but maximize fuel economy). Hope Honda continues to use the v6. Toyota dropped it for a 2.4 turbo in the highlander which is about a second slower 0-60 than the old v6 and 8 speed
@Drivers Only I get what your saying. My sister has my mom's 2013 sienna and it feels like it's got more low end torque than my mothers pilot. It could be because the pilot starts in Second normaly. It feels way more peppy in 1st in sport mode. It also has vcm which I suspect robs throttle response. Now that I think about it the toyota v6 engines definitely have a snappier throttle response. The Pilot feels like it pulls hard high in the Rev range. The vtec cross over is very noticeable in the newer Hondas. I noticed you can barely hear it if all in the older hondas.
@@jacobneal5388 very true I heard vcm really robs responsiveness. That’s true about the low end torque part but I think putting the Honda in sport and letting it start in first really makes it feel snappy like you mentioned. Both are great but the Honda is simply sportier to drive 😀. You’re right about the vtec part. In my 04 you can hear it pretty clearly but it doesn’t have a drastic sound effect like the new ones. I think the 2nd Gen pilots you could barely hear it or couldn’t hear it at all
Depends… sometimes it’s 17MPG others it’s 22MPG. I say 17city 22 combined 26 Highway. I usually get a combined of 22 as I do a commute of open country and city.
0-60 mph in 8 seconds, I think you can do 6-7 seconds easily, did you floor it? Also was the traction control off?
The amount of power this 3.5L makes astonishing, No toyota with a V6 can match this Honda's 3.5L V6
