- Beetlejuice Reaction is today's video! Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Beetlejuice for the first time today!
After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.

Imagine if Beetlejuice fought the Ghostbusters.
"Who gonna call someone else" Ray then runs out to Ecto-1 along with Winston, Egon, and Peter with white hair following right behind him.
Actually he kind of did at Universal Studios years ago.
They did! One of my first memories of universal. It was one of Wayne Brady’s earlier gigs as Winston. If I recall it correctly… beetlejuice began his bit, jokes, dancing… etc when they’re interrupted by the sound of Ecto 1 pulling in. Ghostbusters come up through the crowd. Beetlejuice is able to posses them to perform. Show ends, beetle juice exits the stage as the ghostbusters return back to their car.
I think they did once in the Beatle Juice cartoon but I won't swear to it.
I'd definitely check that out if they fought each other
Fun Fact: They did Beetlejuice first and then cast Keaton as Batman and critics were skeptical about how this crazy character actor could play Gotham's Dark Knight. This just shows how talented Keaton actually is

Yes! Catherine O’Hara is such a legend. Definitely nails this role. One of my favorite Burton films. Such a classic😃
Originally this was going to be an R Rated Horror film rather than a dark comedy fantasy movie.
The script the Maitland's deaths were more gruesome, with Adam smashing headfirst through the windshield while Barbara breaks her arm, with a piece of bone sticking out.
Sammy Davis Jr, Sam Kinoson, and Dean Martin were considered for Beetlejuice.
His original form was going to be a short Middle Eastern man who would turn into a genie, a gargoyle, a giant rabid squirrel, a dragon and a demonic Santa Claus.
A little girl named Kathy was in the original script where she befriends the Maitland's after Kathy read the Handbook For The Recently Deceased.
The climax was a lot different and a lot Darker:
Beetlejuice was going to rape Lydia and have her give birth to demonic offspring, Kathy tries to stop this, but Beetlejuice takes the form of a giant rabid squirrel and kills Kathy
The Maitland's and the Deetz family then perform an exorcism to send Beetlejuice to hell with the handbook.
They perform the same ritual to bring Kathy back.
The Deetz family then leave the house and move back to New York City while the Maitland's live in a miniaturize version of their home.

Ah Beetlejuice, another absolutely iconic classic! especially because the character is played by Michael Keaton, he totally nailed the role!!!

Winona Ryder is an absolute treasure.
Seeing your reaction would be fun if we see this at the theatre with other audience. I could still remember the day I saw this movie with my late Dad when I was 12 in Dec of 88. That dinner scene made everyone in the audience went wild. It was funny as hell.
The Beetlejuice movie is amazing just like the Beetlejuice tv series is also very classic.
And a soon to be touring Musical that’s just as insane as the movie!
I never saw the series but I've been watching pieces of the musical online and listening to the songs. That was after I saw the movie. I only watched it to get an idea of the story so if I liked the songs and story, I would probably like the musical. Admittedly I didn't realize until this that the Maitlands were the POV characters.

The story of the football team is that's the Marshall college team in Michigan that died tragically in a plane crash in the 80s. Everyone on board died and they were survived by a coach who decided to drive home instead and a couple team members who didn't go to the game due to injuries and other reasons. So the fact that the woman says their coach survived makes it a rather dark joke. There's a whole movie about the town recovering from the tragedy called "We are Marshall"

The reason Pg movies in the 80s got away with a lot was because there was no Pg 13 back then, it was Pg or straight to R, and if it's not mature enough in the 80s for R, it was Pg, it's how Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice got away with Pg

Clearly the phrase of the day is “ Oh my God!” 😂😂 A couple of insights for Beetlejuice the musical is actually closing soon on Broadway so your best bet now is to see if the tour is coming to a city near you
A little thing about the dead people working in the office is that when you unalive youself you have to work as a service worker for the rest of your dead life, basically saying people who unalive themselves have to work for others because they were selfless when they unalive themselves.
This is one of my favorite 80s Movies. 23:23 is hands down the best part. Happy Halloween.

Depends on the size of a spider. A "small" one like that should be fine because its terminal velocity is so low. Tarantulas, on the other hand, will be harmed if you drop them.
The thing about Beetlejuice. Looks like Michael Keaton had a busy career throughout the 80s. Can all thank Tim Burton for help pushing him further. Then along came Johnny Depp.

super fun movie. they even made a super fun series out of it though it's missing the whole sub plot of the dead couple and Beetlejuice wanting to marry Lidia. It's just a fun "me and my pet ___" type of show but the pet is a dead guy.
Because you appreciate Michael Keaton’s range someday if you’re interested check two under appreciated gems of his. 1. Pacific Heights where he plays a straight up evil sociopath with frightening calmness and 2. My Life a family drama that he is perfect in (can’t really say why and not spoil).

No, nobody ever called bathrooms indoor outhouses back then; I think Burton is only trying to establish them as odd.
I don't think they ever used Adam and Barbara's scary faces in another movie, but they very much reminded me of the character design of the 2 protagonists in the Spy vs. Spy comics in Mad Magazine.
Lidia is Goth that's why she wears all black and sees the beauty in darkness a lot of people don't see.

Beetlejuice and Heathers were Winona Ryder's first big films, both released in 1988. Heathers also shares the same gruesome, dark comedy.

But is a lot more realistic with it. Heathers is basically the worst traits of high school. It's shocking it came before a certain 90s event we don't talk about because Ryder's co-star seems to have the same complex the assailants did about playing God and having the power to choose who doesn't deserve to live.

Yes. Beetlejuice is one of my absolute favorite movies as an adult ever since I was twenty. There is also "Little Shop of Horrors" from 1986. That was one of my all time favorites when I was a teenager.
"I would've liked to see Beetlejuice maybe a little more in the movie" well, deffinitely hope you get to see the musical then, I think youll really love it
Also Catherine O'Hara is the voice actress for Sally in the nightmare before Christmas as well 🎄🎃
She’s also reunited with Beetlejuice costar Glenn Shadix, who played the mayor of Halloweentown in that 1993 film.
I'm gald you liked it, if you wanna se more of Michael's range you should watch Multiplicity he plays 4 different characters in that one and it's really funny.

Danny Elfman has kind of a thing for minor-key rags. The Gremlin Rag is very similar to the title theme.
They turned this movie into a musical. It’s pretty good if you wanna check out the album. But if you die while listening to it, it’s still gonna keep playing. 😉
I think you’ll like the musical better; Beetlegeuse and Lydia are the main focus while the Maitlands are more supporting characters. Sophia Anne Caruso is the original Lydia in the Broadway performance. There are clips of her performances on RUclips and she was just in the new Netflix film The School of Good and Evil. Gena Davis is an amazing actres as Barbara; I highly recommend her films Stuart Little trilogy and A League of Their Own. Catherine O’Hara was amazing as well; I recommend her film with Christina Ricci, Penelope.

This was the first horror movie I saw. It came out in 1988, but I was way too young to see it, but when it got it's TV premiere in 1992, I saw it, my first horror movie. And I loved it

Tim Burton has Beetlejuice 2 in the works now with Keaton, Wynona, and adding Johnny Depp, which is funny because those 2 dated for about 4 years and even were engaged at one point

Indoor outhouse was intended as an insult to the decor.
As a guy who had seen countless spiders fall they spin a web line very quickly however the change in environment (shock) is what usually end up killing them if they had always been in a house whoever it is not the same for an outside spider they simply complete the web and make a new home outside.

The dancing scene is my favorite part. I remember my sister showing me this movie and this scene and we couldn't stop laughing. It did scare me at some of the parts though. I also like the cartoons.

Beetle Juice is played by Micheal Keaton a great actor if you want to Tim Burton also directed the 1989 batman film Micheal plays Bruce Wayne and you should watch the animated Beetle Juice series the show is a alternate version were Beetle Juice is good and the show's animation is incredible.

Well, he didn’t sing FOR the movie. They used his songs. But he recorded them in the 50s and early 60s and performed them in his shows for years. They were embedded in pop culture. Most audiences were very familiar with them when the movie came out in 1988. It was a big part of the joke that they were using those songs in the movie. But many people now associate them with film cuz’ that dinner scene was awesome!
