Nothing compares to the sound of a Live instrument that resonates with the soul
Getting your music recorded live must have been so surreal! So freaking cool!
Oo well that was a delight, it reminds me very much of the style of orchestration from a old UK television programme called the last of the summer wine.
Awesome video Zach, this is incredibly helpful for composers looking to improve their string writing. Also, beautiful composition :)
Thank you, Tom! :)

@@ZachHeyde Thank you for making this video, especially with the variations and sections solo'd :)
Thanks for a fantastic presentation. This is a wonderful, and quite rare resource for those without a handy string orchestra of their own :)
As a male tenor, cellist and classical guitarist, I found your description of the Vc+Vla melody as as "kind of strained sounding, almost" really interesting. Maybe because this is the register I am most used to hearing, I find it quite the opposite of strained. More like a comfortable chest voice than, e.g., the powerful but a bit strident sound of the upper violin register.
I absolutely love this Zach, beautiful piece and so valuable to see the real thing with REAL examples :) Thanks for doing this for the community!
I also would be super interested in how the prep and setup for this worked!
Great idea Lukas! I might make that a Patreon-exclusive video, or just another public one 😁
Can't believe I'm watching this for free 😍 thank you so much 🙏
My new favorite RUclips channel!
Wonderfully done! Thank you!
This was such a treat!
Amazing video! Congrats! Looking forward for more videos like this one, perhaps with winds, brass and other ensembles
very nice example of orchestration that doesn't talk down to the viewers. keep it up!
I appreciate that!
THIS VIDEO IS ACTUALLY USEFUL!!! I learnt so much new stuff I wish I knew... (Btw I have exactly the same glockenspiel lol)
12:59 nice viola solo :) great video, you got to the bottom of it really fast!
Great video! The composition, playing and recording are all top notch !
Thanks Scott!
What a great way to show a wide assortment of issues that one runs into when writing and arranging for strings! This video is just packed with value, and your composition includes a great (and very well crafted!) melody that stays in the mind very easily! Thank you for doing the hard work and thank you for sharing it!
SOUNDS EXCELLENT!😁🎻 THANK YOU.
Very cool vid! Thanks for the tips, Zach
What an amazing case study on orchestration! I love that cello and viola melody doubling.
Amazing work my friend!
Thanks man!!
This is golden...
Awesome video man! The Northern Film Orchestra sure makes this piece sound great and I love all the different orchestrations too.
I cannot thank Zach Heyde and the Northern Film Orchestra enough for this totally amazing video. Wonderful insight into how a mock-up in your DAW translates when played by a real live Orchestra. Loved all the breakdowns towards the end and how the different elements of the orchestra sound when played in small sections. PLEASE do more. 10/10 *****
So happy to hear that, Alistair, thank you for sharing! More is coming 😁
This is just amazing Zach!. We want more like these, goes straight into our hearts!
Great varations ❤
Very helpful and educational. Please more!💪💪💪
Amazing
Really nice video!
Hello ! This video was super helpful !!
This is awesome Zach, Thank you very much!!!
9:35 bottom left corner 😂 Hahaha.
But awesome video Zach! I’m getting more and more excited every time there’s a new video from you!
Awesome!
This is super helpful.
Thank You Very Much for posting it. Would love to see more video like this one.
This is a fantastic video for composers who don't have a lot of experience with writing for live performers! I love all the breakdowns you did, you guys demonstrated so many variations. I would LOVE to see more videos like this!
Thank you man!! 😁
Excellent tutorial. Loved the advice on scoring and arrangments. Thank you!
How very Britten of you. Thanks. Really cool to hear it relative to the mockup. I love all the irregularities of live performance. Sometimes my ears get a little numbed working with samples all the time.
I've had others make that comparison too haha, I appreciate it! 😁 Glad you enjoyed it!
This was wonderful and well done! Thanks for offering great advice in a concise yet thorough way.
Thanks, Joe!
This video is very helpful. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and the opportunity to listen your music. Very beautiful by the way!
Thank you so much!!!! Really great and interesting job!!!
this was so wonderful and helpful, walking us through the variations and explaining the different effects they have is such a great way to teach this kind of thing!
Thanks so much!
Excellent video Zach! Your explanations along with the isolated audio sections were very helpful and informative.
What a fantastic video! I really enjoyed the piece how the Northern Film Orchestra played it.
As a suggestion for future collaboration, how about a video about long low notes in the brass and woodwind. When writing with samples it’s so easy to just hold down a fff bass line, but what can we expect players to really achieve?
And/Or perhaps something similar with fast action movie style arpeggiated? What makes that stuff playable or unplayable for real instruments?
It’s always difficult to tell the line between an appropriate challenge and something that will cause problems!
Thanks Hew! These are great suggestions, and I'll definitely make a point to cover the lower register in a winds/brass video 😁
Sooo good! Look forward to more!
This was such a special and unique video! What a wonderful piece you wrote Zach, I really love it!! And the explanation was extremely clear and educational 👌🏻 Thanks again!
I love your content sooo much Zach. Haven't watched it yet but can't wait to do it when I'm home! Don't stop inspiring us man,:).
Thank you, really appreciate that 😁
It is rare to hear comparison of a piece performed in DAW and in reality. I've been wondering how my pieces would sound like when played by real performers and you encouraged me to make a goal to record one day my composition by professional band or orchestra. There is also a lot of valuable tips for composers in your video. I've just subscribed your channel and going to see your other videos. 😀
This is amazing! So cool and helpful!
You could maybe do the same for other instrument groups like how to write for woodwinds :)
keep up the awesome work!
Thank you 😁
Nothing compares to a live orchestra 😊 I compose music as a hobby. And it has been a disheartening experience to not get the sound I hear in my head. All VSTs I have tried so far don't sound close to the real thing. And I don't have the skills to mix and master them to sound like a live orchestra. But I will get there. And one day a real orchestra will play something I wrote 😊
You've got this!!
@@ZachHeyde thank you so much 🙂
