My father spent the last 6 weeks of his life in a nursing home alone. His memory was so bad and his cognitive level wouldn't allow him to understand why we couldn't visit him. He died brokenhearted thinking his children abandoned him. He was so malnourished by the time he was released he died within 6 hours. It was pitiful. And these jerks should be held responsible for the draconian measures they enforced.
I think stopping people from visiting the elderly was the cruelest part of covid. Like your father so many elderly people across the globe thought they had been abandoned by their families. I would also think in most cases they would have chosen to see family member even if it meant catching covid.

My dear MIL died in the hospital during Covid. She went in for a bladder infection, never came out. And we weren’t allowed to visit her. I was inpatient in 2020, and then in nursing rehab for 3 weeks, at the height of Covid. I wasn’t allowed to have any visitors. I felt like a prisoner.
