  • £11,500 is a lot of money. It'll get you a brand new ceramic Daytona and change. It's enough for a lightly used Royal Oak Offshore. With some haggling, it'll just about see you into a gold Patek Philippe Calatrava. So, why would you spend it all on a three-hander from a brand you've never even heard of?

    You forgot to mention that H. Moser designed their calibers with an entirely modular escape mechanism, which means when the watch is serviced, Moser just replaces the mechanism making the maintenance process much faster and robust. In addition, Moser has designed their own gear profile, which is more expensive to produce but actually distributes load more efficiently, which turns into more working hours.

    This video is another great example of how this channel provides perfect little touches of context to better understand the specific point at hand (and, ultimately, deepening the viewer's appreciation of watches)...For example, starting around 5:00, explaining how difficult it is to fabricate balance springs for a watch of this quality: "...When your company can do this, it can do anything."
    These exquisite little essays--as polished and precise as the watches they discuss--are elegantly presented with refreshing understatement, candour, and conviction.
    Experts enraptured by the beauty of the subject they love. Trying to convey, to impart, some inkling of that passion to us. Like trying to capture some delicate little bird in mid-flight and hold it, gently, just long enough to let us see.
    Very nice work. Thank you.

    This is an excellent, informative and factual video. I have had my H. Moser for just over a week, and it has hardly left my wrist. I love how you explain so well the relationship between the two companies, one making some components that are also provided to other companies, and the other doing the assembly. The craftsmanship is second-to-none. I have the smoke dial with white gold, but would take any one over any other watch. I have a great little watch collection, but this tops them all! Thanks, Carl

      +Watch the hands - 15k for such a simple watch? That's insane - Prices are getting out of hand.. I know it's not a Seiko complication, but it isn't anything ground breaking innovative masterpiece either.
      They are selling the brand here, not the watch. It's the BMW i3 - Everybody know it's because you couldn't afford the i8, but still wanted to be part of the club. And at 37mm? Who is this for?

    Beautiful timepiece. Funny how i was about to comment going into this video, that i wanted u to review more brands like H. Moser & Cie, Moritz Grossman and Glashutte Original. Especially the Senator collection from Glashutte. While i luv Patek, i wud still buy an H. Moser bfor going for a Patek Phillipe. To my knowledge, H. Moser watches are approx. 95 percent "Swiss Made" as opposed to other luxury brands sourcing all sorts of parts from Europe and elsewhere. Its a true luxury timepiece. Luv everything about it. Less is more. Its a conversation starter, especially when the chances of someone else wearing this watch is almost zero. A Moser watch will make u stand out.

      Jamie Ward I mentioned in their last video that they might be able to sort of separate the channel and the company - just ever so slightly. I'm sure roughly 70% of the audience is outside their clientele anyways as the watches shown are high-end. So if the channel becomes a major source of income, they might start expanding into watches they don't have for sale. I mentioned that they would just change the outro for these episodes, as "Discover more" implies that the watch shown is included in their stock. So they could change it to something like "Discover other exceptional watches.." or something like that.
      With so many great watches around, they'd have a nearly endless supply of content. Really, think about how many Seiko's have huge stories behind them. It would be really quite incredible to see. People could send them their personal watches and they could go over them. That would be pretty remarkable.

      Nooo do not part with your snowflake that easy, by far undervalued and overlooked by the great Swiss bling factories, that display the cost of their pieces a lot more prominently than the substance of their design. When folks ask, how do I know if I have a genuine Grand Seiko, I laugh because its 5 times more complex to copy a Grand Seiko, for 1/5th the pay off. If you are going to replicate and knock off, why not go for Rolex, the bar is lower and the price you can get is much higher. That tells you all you need to know about Grand Seiko. It's for those of us who actually appreciate a good watch, and don't need to tell anyone how much it cost. We know its worth many times more its value, and that always brings a smile, because you can't go wrong owning one.

  • @hauptma2
    @hauptma2 6 лет назад +33

    As someone who quite enjoys many aspects of design including graphic design and in particular text, I have to say the "swiss made" at 6 o'clock and the 12 numeral really ticked me off (pun intended). The H. Moser and Cie. logo is written in an elegant cursive font, the back of the watch on the case and the movement has text in a serif font, meanwhile that that giant 12 and the "swiss made" looks to be in arial or helvetica font, both of which are sans serif fonts. Serif fonts promote a sense of elegance, while the sans serif fonts are utilitarian. They don't belong together on a watch and certainly a san serif font doesn't belong on a watch that is marketed as an elegant dress watch in the 11k price range. Other than that, its a beautiful watch, but that 12 numeral looks like a blemish on a beauty.

      Typography like most art, is highly subjective and one must look at the overall presentation to make a determination. Personally I feel the watch is well presented not only at its price-point but intended service.

    My philosophy when it comes to timepieces, is to look for excellence but to stay away from the "obvious" brands. Its the reason why (if I had the money) I would pick a Pagani over a Ferrari. Some watch brands have become formidable marketing machines, which is a consequence of the Quartz crisis, when mechanical watches needed to find a new reason to exist, so they went upmarket and focussed on raising their image in the buyers' mind. But that also led to a situation where people would buy certain brands because of their cachet. Essentially people buy Rolex, Patek, Omega et. al. because of the impression it will create on other peoples' minds. For me its more important what impression a timepiece creates in MY mind. And for this reason, my answer to the question "would I buy an H.Moser?" is an emphatic "Yes". I guess we could say that H.Moser is the Pagani of the watch world

    There is something about the Moser watches that just seems special. Ever since I saw a photo of one I was drawn to it.
    I also like that the company seems to have a sense of humour and doesn't take itself too seriously. With things like the Swiss Alp Watch and the Swiss Cheese watch.
    It's just nice to see someone who can make exquist high quality watches AND have a bit of fun. Mostly otherwise it's one or the other.

      Agree. I imagine the target audience of this channel tends to be people who value substance over style. I initially thought a new channel ripped the style or, even worse, a thumbnail from a previous Watchfinder & Co. video.

    Like the watch, this is a superb video! I purchased my first H. Moser & Cie a few short weeks ago. It did not take me long to make up my mind to purchase after I had seen the watch. H. Moser & Cie is on a level of it's own. I love the history behind the company, which you so beautifully describe. Now, I do have to take a bit of exception: one of my favorite watches is a Patek Philippe Gondolo, which I just took off my wrist. It is an exquisite, rectangular case which no watch manufacturer - including the famed Cartier brand with the lovely Tank Louis Cartier - has been able to come close to making. However, that does not diminish my love and respect for the H. Moser & Cie brand. I have an Endeavour Small Seconds with Fume dial, and have never - and likely never will - see anything like it. the level of craftsmanship and love put into this watch is indescribable. I absolutely love watching the manually wound movement at the case back, and observing the power reserve indicator and the escapement module, unique to H. Moser. I could go on and on with my comments. This is a watch like nothing I have ever experienced, and likely never will. I am proud to have a small but rather unique watch collection, into which the H. Moser & Cie Small Seconds fits perfectly. While I cannot honestly say it is my favorite watch in the collection, it is definitely the most unique and the one of which I am most proud. And that says a lot!
    Cheers,
    Carl

    Some seriously pompous comments abound. For me, on the other hand, this watch certainly ticks many boxes - irrespective of the so-called clickbait (seriously, if this offends, don't watch and don't comment!). I've a decent collection, nothing fancy mind, however if my collection included various PP's, I believe I would continue to watch pieces like this on the 'tube because reviewers such as Watchfinder & Co are few and far between. The timing of this video is like a sign as I only just two days ago bought a mint 2008 Mayu with white dial, white gold markers/hands and white gold case, box and papers, and I could not be happier - in fact I'm absolutely ecstatic. It cost me less than a 10 year old secondhand average Sea Dweller and frankly I'd rather have this than any Patek (not an uncommon sight here in Hong Kong)!! Thanks for the excellent and informative review. Incidentally the quality of the straps shouldn't be left out either as it's rare to see such a well made strap even at this level.The other thing worthy of mention is the price of a basic service (they have an SC here) is actually less than I would have thought too at HK$4000 (US$500).

    The second hand lacks that smooth sweeping action due to the leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. Accuracy might be compromised by any shock of greater than normal amplitude (compared to a watch with a more modern 28,000 bph), but I'm guessing that relaxed beat rate will most likely result in less friction and wear and tear on the movement, and possibly longer intervals between required servicing. Not totally sold on the large Arabic numeral 12 though. The movement is a beauty though. Love the integration and execution of the power reserve. An interesting alternative to the usual predictable recommendations for a precious metal manual wound dress watch.

    Awesome video as always! Very impressive watch, will be on my list. I much prefer watches that are less "commercial", every second snob has a Rolex, Pathek, AP or other well known expensive brands... I myself went for Zenith, most people haven't even heard about it :)
    Would be interesting to see a review on the El Primero Chronomaster Skeleton (one with the rubber strap) or the Oris Cal 111 Big Crown Pro Pilot (inhouse movement). Keep up the good work!

    Thank you for great reviews, good editing and amusing storytelling! This watch make me think of my own Omega Suverän, civilian version of the Omega Officer issued to Swedish Armed Forces (among others I believe) during WW2. I would love to have a review on the Omega Officer and Suverän since they have an amazing story, are quite rare but still affordable and for me, a must have for a collector. Hopefully I will see one in the near future. Thank you!

    Looking at all these videos and love to see the elegance and simplicity in some and the technical brilliance in others and justify the price that is asked. But when you look at Patek Phillippe you can see where it stands hands above anything eĺse. And it's a class of its own.

    Alot of people like CEOs etc who don't want to flaunt their wealth in other peoples faces like rappers, and in my opinion negative aspect is that Patek has become a very mainstream with rappers rapping about "iced out pateks" so it's no longer discreet wearing them

    • @benendesc3931
      @benendesc3931 6 лет назад +17

      youngnomad888 did I mention race . There was no need to bring something like that into this and I'm talking about a large variety of rappers of all colour and the majority buy something for the price tag not the object in question. Reading it through and maybe think before you bring a pointless matter of race and a hint of stupidity into a discussion

    • @MotahSports
      @MotahSports 6 лет назад +11

      you didn't have to mention race. when i say country singers you know i'm addressing southern white men so don't try play naive with me. You clowns are all over the internet, every watch or car video you bring up rappers and ball players. why didn't you mention the billionaires with their 300 million dollar yachts, thats not flashing wealth? why you didnt mention john travolta with a runway in his back yard for his private jets. You are so transparent!

    That caseshape design is absolutely emotional, with lugs tapering naturally from the curve of the main case, and concave bezel...but I REALLY want to take my index fingernail and chip off that 12 on the dial. If you are out of creative juice, AT LEAST USE BREGUET NUMERAL on such a classic case design. it's like they've done all these amazing work, and taking it easy at the last 100m of the marathon.

    Beautiful watch indeed. IMO pricing had it a bit on the high side. I would think it´s a watch of 10-12 thousand dollars top. But there's a market who thinks that quality is better if the price is high. Also I think that a gold watch should have a back that you could engrave. Moreover, I find the power reserve on manual watches useless since either I wind them every morning regardless of what the reserve indicator would say, or if I don´t wear them for a long time, I have to wind them anyway.

    I would love to have this watch over a calatrava or a saxonia. The only reason I might not is that I find that arabic 12 to be a bit too large and odd on the top. Just another stripe would've made it perfect for me.

    Thanks for the review. Have never heard of the brand and would I buy one? Yes, the watch looks brilliant and being that they make only 1500 pieces a year is a real bonus. I like things that a different and everyone in horology knows Patek and everyone who knows nothing about horology knows a Rolex. The watch looks very elegant and would make a very beautiful dress watch.
