That smile on Cassandra's face after she says Rimmer will be dead in 20 minutes is absolute gold.
*silver
It's only because we've all had that thought.
The look on Rimmer's as well.
"All the canaries will be dead in one hour except for Rimmer, who will be dead in 20 minutes."
Audience cheers.
That 'Yay' was golden
All the Canaries will be dead in one hour, except for Rimmer...
YES!
...who will be dead in 20 minutes
Only lister, kryten, the cat and kochanski survive.
Made me go YESSSS
@@abbyalphonse499 and arnold
This is by far and away the best episode in season 8.
That's disappointing, Im judging if I'd like it or not and though it seems that it has humor, not many chuckles.
* only good one of that season
season 8 wasnt very good. it didnt continue many of the story threads from the previous seasons.
@@jamesmeppler6375 This is more of an establishing scene than a comedy scene, so the jokes are less dense. The episode strikes a good balance between comedy and exploring the idea of predestination. Has a killer ending, too, which I won't spoil.
@@petrie911 no spoilers?! Lol thanks, these clips make me want to find it.
2:28 "I read it on this mission directive here" LOL
"Says it right here in the script"
The Muppet Movie
I dunno why people hated this Series so much I loved it.
MediEvilFan 147 Not the series, just the season, but I thought it was pretty good
Wasn't too bad, apart from how it ended
Mostly the juvenile sexual humour which dragged the integrity of the show down, Rimmer bonking every woman on the Captain's staff and the prisoners paying to perve on women in showers is something that belonged to those shithouse American frat boy films, not Red Dwarf.
it is a great season
Same here, I love series 8! However it was the first Red Dwarf series I saw, when I was eight years old, so it has a lot of nostalgic value for me.
The late Geraldine McEwan is more likely recognisable as Miss Marple but for me this was one of her 'Classic roles' R.I.P.
I liked her on Mulberry.
She was superb as Lucia Pillson in Mapp and Lucia and as Mrs. Proudie in Barchester Chronicles
Don't forget 'Oranges are not the only fruit". I fell in love with her in that,, and the late Charlotte Coleman.
She looks and sounds like she is enjoying herself
@@onawal931 I had forgotten all about that show. Now I need to see if that show is available on disc to purchase and show my wife.
Can I just give a shout out for the way the Cat moves in between Kachanski and Lister for one line and then back out? It's small, but it makes the gag 10x funnier.
''So long as the teeth are in your mouth at the time, sir.''
Adam Santer this is where you share your theory with your crew mates
Techincally in a blowjob situation the teeth are....more of a problem. No one likes bitemarks on their thing
The way kryten says extraordinary is extraordinary
Reminded me of David Coleman
Geraldine McEwan's voice is so distinctive. She was perfect as Cassandra :D
she´s a very unique woman!! and i mean it in the best possible way.. i love her as miss marple!!
0:35 eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXTRAORDINARY!
I find it funny how Lister tried to intercept but got himself trapped in full circle.
3:05 that WHAAEEEEYYY from the audience
RIP Geraldine McEwan
I will admit that Series VII & VIII were not everyone's cup of tea, still I enjoyed the smegging hell outta them
see y’all in 10 years when youtube recommendations brings us back here
Hope I live, long enough.
I'll bring the beers
Need someone to comment every year to keep the sequence going and remind everyone!
Just checking in to keep this comment relevant. Hello from the hellish dystopian hellscape that is 2024...end transmission.
This scenes makes me so happy.
Geraldine McEwan is such a fantastic actress
She sure was. Sadly missed😢
Geraldine McEwan was always one of my favourites.
Mindblow, the writing on this show is genius
I wasn't such a fan of the brig seasons, but this episode was one of the best of the entire series
Imagine if that was Holly's mother!
The best episode of season 8 by far
When the ultimate tool becomes the ultimate enemy, we lose.
"I read it on this mission directive". I loved this show. Rimmer used to be joffrey of the red dwarf.
Why didn't lister get with kochanski????
Check out the Red Dwarf special
I think it would have made the show too sappy - it was written to be a sci fi comedy, not a romance and whenever the plot strayed towards Lister/kochanski relationship the comedy faltered!
@@Bongwater33 that makes sense. Afterall smwg head and lister got on eachother's nerves which created comedy. Kochanski was hot tho.
If he read it on the mission directive then it wasn't a theory.
Lol "moisture me moisture me" - doctor who reference 😉
They have the same name too! XD.
This came out before
"It's moisturize me" and it's the voice of Zoe Wanamaker as "Lady Cassandra" one of the last "true" humans left (in an episode that takes place in the future where the sun is finally expanding resulting in the earth being ROASTED.) she is also by no means somebody with any special abilities, just a piece of skin streched over a canvas to continue "living" if you can call it that.
Totally brilliant
R.I.p cassandra
As a Whovian I was a little bit confused by a 3D Cassandra
ha thats Geradine Mcawen
The main reason I watched this series was Chloe Annett. She's delish!
I seriously have to dig my DVD box set out..
I loved those and many others of the BBC,😉💜😈
Better series than current dr who
Let's face it, the current Who is very low bar. In fact, it's subterranean.
Especially now, it being LGBTQ written to death by RTD.
"I read it on this mission directive here."
Then it's not really a theory if you have proof XD
Still infinitely better writing than anything happening in Star Trek right now!
1:26 🤣🤣🤣
Of all Series 8 episodes, "Cassandra" was definitely the closest to standard Red Dwarf format. Once the Dwarfers are separated from the other Canaries that is (apart from Warden Knot popping up at one point) and then encounter Cassandra. Feels more like the Series 4-6 days.
At 181 probably your own, lol
3:05 LOL
Of course this does show the computer is not 100% accurate.
I love Kryten.
yep best character
Oh Gooood this is so funny. 181? Probably your own. Looool.
Omg I love her from mulberry
"I'm not gonna say that!!?"
I never said you would.
They chose the name Cassandra after the Trojan priestess who could predict the future but nobody believed her due to a curse placed on her by Apollo.
181? but Lister is already over 300,000,000 years old.
2:40 MEGA ROFL
1:00 MEGA LOL
TOPKEK!
7 and 8 were pretty weak, but this episode showed the show still had potential
A 181, probably your own (bra-illant!)
Hamon energy vibrs
Bob Grant is missed. Did they fall out?
0:18 LMBO!
Cleverly named Cassandra 🤔
theresa may stole her entire look from this character
I would just chat with her and try to find the flaw in the matrix :)
what question would you ask !!!
Saturdays lottery numbers….
Bad news for Norwich.
No she was in Miss Marple or something like that.
ProcolHarum1967 Quite a few things - well known actress.
think she was the mother in my family
ÕMĞ é PôWéŘ-PhÛľĽ Phunny Orrrsé-Strâylêans
So Lister will died at 181 and also within the hour?
I would ask if my consciousness exists after I die , but I might be really depressed if she said no
She'll say no.
I would love Kristine to return for season XI
The seasons with Kachinski were the worst. All rest are awesome.
@123lard123
she'd say no, but you can be downloaded into a floating head and live forever as a future predicting computer face.
which series is this?
Series 8, episode 4 ('Cassandra').
i want one how much
the moment they added that woman to the show it was all downhill... the seasons before was EPIC,... when the crew was rimmer, cat , lister and krayten
I agree
I preferred Clair Grogan in the part.
The trouble is that the entire project was a mens' space. This had advantages and disadvantages. There was generally good camaraderie between those involved, and disputes tended not to last long. The disadvantage was that introducing a woman to this environment after so many years altered the atmosphere. They're all clearly working hard, but Chloe Annett and the rest of the cast just don't seem to gel very well, and the writers seemed to struggle to write a female regular cast member.
It doesn't help that what we knew of Kochanski's character had already been established as an idealised version in Lister's mind. The later version had very little to do with the original character, from her accent to her behaviour.
Season 7-8 were total write offs, but wow did it make a great comeback all those years later!
When? It's been rubbish ever since Rob Grant left.
I never understood ALL the hate that series 7 got, but I understand about series 8. I remember watching it on original transmission and gave up after the 2nd episode. Series 6 will always be my favourite.
Geraldine McEwan was the best :)
The awkward moment when they repeated this joke in season 10.
Oh, the predictive command response computer? Little different because that's supposed to be guessing what users will order based on personality data, not actually seeing the future. But yes, a little too similar, too.
There's a season 10?
@@adamnfiddle8065 and 11 and 12
Where have you been? There's been 3 more series since Back to Earth and there will be a series 13 filmed in 2019 so you've got some catching up to do @@adamnfiddle8065
What's awkward about it? Red Dwarf has repeated many concepts at this stage like the clones of the crew that have different personalities or the time travel plotlines that are paradoxes, this falls under the computer that has become more a hindrance than a help you best stick Queeg in with that category too then.
she looks like shodan
Red Dwarf ended series 6
Is the computer the mom from my family?
There was no mom in My Family. There was a mum though.
@knightdrako Yes it is :D
Is this the same actress who played Cassandra in Doctor Who?
Duno how you could get those two confused, their voices are completely different, the woman who played Cassandra in Dr Who was the same woman who plays Madame Hooch the broomstick teacher in Harry Potter. Geraldine McEwen went on to play Miss Marple after this.
No that was Zoë Wanamaker
@@optimisticwhovian1726 I wouldn't say they're completely different, they're quite similar.
At least two funny logical errors in this bit alone. 1) Computer that sees and hears the fixed future shouldn't be able to predict a question never spoken aloud. 2) The only reason one character is even in danger of dying is the scare from the prediction which would never get made if he doesn't die. Effect cannot equal cause.
Picking logical errors in Red Dwarf is a pointless exercise since just about all of it has logic errors, Rob and Doug were incredibly sloppy about logic and continuity so I wouldn't start feeling too smug about it Rob Grant openly didn't give a flaming fuck about consistency.
I disagree with point 1. To predict the future, of which she is a part, she would also need to be able to know which question she will answer even if it were not spoken aloud. Which in this case it was, a few seconds later.
I also disagree with point 2. If he wouldn't have died if not for the self-fulfilling prophecy, then it is just murder. Pre-mediated in this case, because she must have known.
What puzzles me is why they even need canaries when they have a computer than can already predict their uselessness.
You may be overthinking Red Dwarf
Also all of the Canaries can't die if four of them survive. That exchange made no sense.
since it's all one big parody to sci-fi genre, it makes perfect sense to me :D
Is that Anna Massey?
Who? It's a British thespian called Geraldine McEwen who became well known on TV after this for playing Miss Marple.
@@optimisticwhovian1726 She was one of those actresses that turned up in a lot of things and was always brilliant but didn't seem to get the attention she deserved, until, as you say, Miss Marple.
@@zacmumblethunder7466 The prime of Miss Jean Brodie too.
i love red dwarf but is this a jojo reference?
She is wrong once though , when she says what kryton was about to say he doesnt finish his sentence so he never said what she said he would say becuas she already saidf it for him, ........
Dun dun dunnnnnn!
He was still intending to say it though is the point she just put him off
Teresa May hasn't changed much.
If Mrs May could have seen the future she would still be PM.
Christ dark days of red dwarf 8-11 :(
series 1 was meh at times. it got better when kryton joined
If it wasn't for the- frankly- slightly uncomfortable scenes with Rimmer and Kochanski (what is with series 8 and it's weird sleazy sexual stuff?) this is a bonafide classic episode in an otherwise mediocre series.
1999 was full of that stuff I swear.
But nobody will believe your
this is the same actor as casandra from doctor who
Sorry, no it isn't. This Cassandra is Geraldine McEwan. Cassandra from Dr Who is Zoë Wanamaker
@@Trev359 aw damn
She tasty 😋
What bleep put a laugh track to this?
Aside from series 7 (this is from 8) and Back To Earth, all Red Dwarf was filmed in front of a live audience. Not a laugh track.
@@austinseven4720 live and learn! Thank you.
None of this was funny. Always thought Red Dwarf died around when the new Kochanski came on board.
That's your opinion not fact, whats funny is reliant on the person's own sense of humour. This is no different from any other series in terms of the style of humour you're just biased because youre yet another nerd boy who didn't like them having a woman on the team.
