I think he was always on that journey, and he was much farther along than he ever realized. God's inspiration was in him from the start, but he didn't know it yet. Fate? I like to think so, and his music helped me grow as a person and a musician. Thank God for Kerry, and, for me, the reverse order is also true.

I caught them at the Aladan Theater for the Performing Arts in Support of Monolith. To this day they are the best show I have ever seen. Steve Walsh had his Adidas shorts on (naked man) and I believe a cast on his left arm. The cast did not slow him down one bit!

Seeds of Change is an amazing album, and the book of the same title is good too. If you read it you'll see his "religious nuttery" is what he was into before Christianity.
I had no idea this concert ever happened. Steve Walsh left Kansas a couple years later because he didn't want to sing Kerry's Christian lyrics, so it's pretty wild he sang this song. With all due respect to Steve and Phil I like Dio and Barry Barlow's playing on the album better.

funny, when you go through a lot of the material lyrics, Kansas was actually a bad boy christian band that got away with it in the mainstream. Ha!

Been saying this for years. A christian band that actually fell in to the prog genre. They were an amazing talent. We didn't recognize christian bands in the 70's. We just sang along to the lyrics and rocked with the band. Zero cares and taking it all in. Never missed a show of theirs in the 70's in Chicago. One of my all time favorite groups.

Kerry Livgren, who wrote a good majority of the songs, became a Christian in 1979 everything after that had very strong Christian slant. Before that, as he says, he was searching. This particular song is not a Kansas song it is off of Livgren's solo album called Seeds of Change. The original vocals are by Ronnie James Dio.
