Working with water is an excellent job! I love the 12 hour shifts, the pay, and the stability of the work! Good balance between work and time off. Some plants are nicer than others, and the same goes for managers. I am a grade 3 operator in California, and kinda hate to retire. But my wife retired 4 years ago, so sometime soon I may give up this great career.

Here in Texas OSHA has no power over government entities, ie. City run treatment plants but we do have our own safety officers which are a bigger pain. Also operators arnt allowed to open and access any electrical panels; thats where i come in and work the electrical wires. Thats not small 12volt equipment alot are 480v. Most of the time when the RAS pumps have "stoppage" they pull the pumps out of the pit and free the rags, etc. By hand. Reversing the rotation of the motor can and will damage the motor if done for too long.

So if the electricity goes out like EMP would you still have water? What’s your SOP for power outage? What happens when the generators get EMP?

Osha does regulate municipalities. Only in the case of fatalities...osha would come in and investigate post accident
