There are insanely good stunt people in this movie (along with tremendously talented actors). Zoe Bell who did the stunts for Uma Thurman is deserving of all the accolades.
Jen did not disappoint with the face I expected her to make upon hearing the final line of dialogue 😂 Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds will always be my top 2 favourite movies. Kill Bill especially is a masterpiece in storytelling, the cinematography, the soundtrack. Everything about it is perfect. Can’t wait to see you guys watch Vol. 2!!
The small moments/details in his movies are so intriguing. Whether it be a quick, close-up shot of someone brandishing a gun, any of the food/drink shots scenes, the training scenes in Kill Bill and Once Upon A Time, I just love them.
There are 2 Martial Arts legends in this movie. The Sushi Chef was Master Samurai Swordsman Sonny Chiba and the Crazy 88 Leader Johnnie Mo is Gordon Lui. Gordon appears in Part 2 in a different but iconic Martial Arts character. I don't live too far from Uma Thurman; home in Upstate NY and have run into her twice,, She said that she did as many stunts as they would let her. The most dangerous stunts were done by Zoe Bell (Xena's stuntwoman). She said that was constantly bruised and sore from the stunts they did let her do. She said that Gordon Liu worked with her and was a great teacher. She is a very nice lady, even more beautiful in person and very tall.
I remember my dad coming home from blockbuster and making me watch this movie that i was probably too young for. Such a great movie. I was so disappointed having to wait for the second part.
Kill Bill is not just my #1 favorite Quentin Tarantino film, it's one of my top 3 favorite movies of all-time. Quentin Tarantino really had a love for classic HK martial arts film, westerns and samurai movies as you said. This is the film that really had me fall in love with Tarantino filmmaking along with Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds which are in my top 3 of his work. The yellow outfit is similar to Bruce Lee's in the film Game of Death. As a martial arts and sword fighting lover, this film was truly made for me.
When the bride introduces her name then it bleeps her name out when I first saw this I just didn't honestly didn't know what to think at the time 😂 when the bride takes on the Crazy 88 that whole fight scene is absolutely nuts to the point where it had to be in black-and-white and then the fight scene between Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu was also pretty great too
My favorite Tarantino movie is “Death Proof”(2007). Love all his movies and the soundtracks!🔥🔥🔥 Shout out to Michael Parks has 2 roles in Kill Bill, the Texas Ranger Earl and Esteban the pimp in pt 2. Has been in several Tarantino movies. He was pretty well known in the 60s and 70s in tv and movies. I grew up watching him on tv.
Kill Bill 1+2 are without any doubt my favorite Tarentino movies. And they might even be in my top 20 favorite movies of all time. I re-watch them every year or so. Amazing choregraphies, inventive score, cartoonish, stylized violence, mystical aspects of martial arts and swordfighting...love love love! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, and cannot wait for your reactions to Kill Bill 2! ⚔
It always amazes me how the muscles in her legs are atrophied but her arms are super strong. I saw this movie in the theatre. I went up there on my motorcycle. When it was over, I got up and realized my armored motorcycle jacket was yellow with a black stripe on the sleeves. I was so self-conscious walking out.
When O-Ren says if you didn't save you energy, you won't last 5 minutes. Their fight lasts just under 5 minutes (starting from the music queue, when O-Ren removes her shoes).
Ah, a classic! 11:37 The cartoon was an homage to anime. Tarantino said the idea and concept for adding a cartoon to show violence were inspired by an Indian Tamil language film(Nope not B'wood, it's Kollywood) called "Aalavandhan". Was made by one of the Indian legendary actors Kamal Hassan. He made many sorts of low-budget films that pushed boundaries in hush subjects and gave hope to spending more financially on artistic, realistic, and taboo topics films.
Would highly recommend Nick finding David Carradine’s book The Kill Bill Diaries that he wrote about the filming process. Its a great read and really takes you behind the scenes
Random fact about o'ren ishii is the reason she dose not have a hand guard on her samurai sword. Is because shes ment to be so skilled and its ment to be intimidating to anybody that knows kitanas and swords as shes that skilled basically she dose not need something to protect her hands when she fights.
Age has nothing to do with crazy as a bedbug and Gogo is definitely crazier than a bedbug at 17...probably way before that. When I hear the kill target sound and everything goes red all I can think of is the old tv show Ironside where I first heard it as the opening bars of the shows theme song by Quincy Jones.😂 Uma's stuntwoman, Zoe Bell, was also the stuntwoman for Lucy Lawless on Xena: Warrior Princess.
The fountain blood spurting comes from some Japanese cult films of the 60's and 70's, 'Pinky Violence' and Gangster. Some of the soundtrack songs come straight from some of those films. Some of songs in Part 2 are from Spaghetti Westerns.
The song that plays after The Bride kills O-Ren, is from a movie called Lady Snow Blood. Very fun older Japanese film, you can see where Tarantino got a lot of his inspiration.
Also the SB logo at the beginning and that intro is from The Shaw Brothers..a movie series/company from Hong Kong- famous for lots of classic Kung fu movies. Also Pai Mei is played by Gordon Lui ala Chia-Hui Liu..a famous Shaw Brothers actor. So many more little homages as Tarantino always does like the Iron side (70s cop show) sound sample… lovely reaction guys
I seem to remember some talk at the time that there would be a movie in 15 years or so where Vernita's grown-up daughter WOULD come for her revenge on The Bride (funny to think that 15 years seemed like such a long time to wait, when it's actually been about 20 years now)- I don't think that'll ever come to fruition, but it sure would be cool to see! And just when I think I couldn't love you guys more, Nick goes and mentions my favorite video game franchise...
That alert sound is from the groundbreaking 1972 film "King Boxer" aka "Five Fingers of Death", starring Lo Lieh. Lo Lieh later played the protagonist in White Lotus Clan (opposite Pai Mei). He went on to play Pai Mei himself in Kill Bill 2, an easter egg from Tarantino. ruclips.net/video/eauaBE9_o_4/видео.htmlsi=44IZXn4PZrKCaNKv Nearly every scene in the Kill Bill film(s) is an otaku wuxia homage from Tarantino.
We once counted foot-scenes in Death Proof cause it was part of our drinking game, can't remember how many, but there were quite a few😅 The only other rule we had was when someone was killed
8:40 yeah, not too long ago - maybe a few years at most - there was an article someone posted on Facebook about a coma patient getting knocked up at some clinic or healthcare center. It wasn't a large hospital, so it wasn't a huge staff like you would normally expect. So the clinic was making all the male staff take paternity tests. Now, I'm not sure what the results were... but one of the comments on the Facebook post really angered me. Something to the effect of "if I worked there I would refuse," something about "they can't prove it was anyone there, they have no probable cause" and this love gem "I think they (the coma patient and her significant other, and the medical center) should just accept this as a miracle of God, like the Virgin Mary with Jesus." I honestly don't know what's worse... the perpetrator, or the sicko trying to excuse it using the Immaculate Conception of Christ.
22:02 the jumpsuit is an homage to the suit worn by Bruce Lee in his last film, Game of Death. 23:10 the dramatic blood spray is taken from a variety of Samurai films from earlier Japanese films. at some point you might checkout the Lone Wolf and Cub films, or the American hybrid, Shogun Assassin, which spliced some of the episodes together and gave it an English dub.
It so lovely to see you watching this with you mom, I used to watch when mine was alive! She loved this movie because of the fights scenes! Even when she got Alzheimer's I put the movie on for her to be quiet and let me cook.
I recommend Japanese version of Kill Bill - the Crazy 88 part is not black&white, but in full color and is much longer! This extended scene is also here on RUclips.
In the Japanese version the Crazy 88's scene stays in full color and it is glorious! The black and white works incredibly well, but it's still great to see it in color....oh all that blood! Uma's stunt double Zoe Bell is in Deathproof and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Kill Bill is my favorite Tarantino movie(s)!
In the words of Adam West as Batman what a way to go go. Love these movies. They're probably my 2nd favorite Taraninto movie after Jackie Brown but before Django Unchained.
Great reaction! If you haven’t seen it, “Colombiana” is another excellent revenge movie. Zoe Saldana is excellent in it. It’s similar to Oren’s story, but a heroine instead of villain. Definitely watch the UNRATED, full version!
Speaking of stylized, Sin City would make for a fun reaction too (theatrical cut). Quentin Tarantino even has a guest directing credit on that I believe, but his actual involvement was minor from I heard.
The yellow jump suit comes from Bruce Lee's last unfinished movie Game of Death. He filmed the fight scenes first (Including one with Kareem Abdul Jabbar) and they can be seen on RUclips. Unfortunately he died before the rest of the film could be finished.
It was finished with a different actor so you can see the whole story, just in a couple scenes the hero fights wearing a motorcycle helmet and using a completely different style .
As for the sword and how she could take it on the plane I think it’s bc in Japan traditionally made katana are considered works of art, and not weapons. They are very strict regarding what can be called true Japanese katana. They have to be made traditionally in Japan, and Okinawa (where the swordsmith was) is a Japanese Island south of Japan. Bc a plane from Okinawa to Hokkaido( or whichever island this takes place) would be internal, so I think they’d allow her to carry it as a carry on, I don’t think anybody involved would care to lose an art piece. It’d be like losing the Mona Lisa in your suitcase

It's crazy because I just recently heard about a case where a women in a coma went into labor and nobody knew she was pregnant. Come to find out one of the male nurses was having sex with her and got her pregnant. It's crazy he did all this while that women was in a coma, completely vulnerable. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it. There was a samurai movie I loved as a kid about a samurai taking care of a little boy. I forget the plot it's been so long, but they were traveling & would get attacked along the way to their destination. It's prob '60s or '70's. I found it at a local video store as a teen in the '80s. That was before any national chain video stores like blockbusters so it had to be a well-known classic. Putting out the word here otherwise I'll never find it with all the samurai flicks.😅 ✌🌎❤
@@innercircle341Don't be so fast with the term "impossible" if it comes to Tarantino. He always had a fable for authentic references. One example? Yes and I thought she was fantastic in death proof
Uma also did a lot of her own stunt work. She really hurt her back doing this movie.
Zoe Bell is a beast! I looked up movies she’s stunted in and it’s quite impressive.
I read somewhere Zoe Bell actually sliced the baseball in half with the sword . . .
Yes but she is definitely not an actor as shown in some of QTs other films.
The fight between the Bride and The Crazy 88's is both epic and brutal and amazing at the same time.
The stunt woman was paralyzed from the waist down after the flip scene.
@@couch.patati-patataI believe that's an urban legend.

They need to make that a thumbnail
When Bill's name is written on the window, I love how the "i" is dotted in the manner of a calligraphy brush stroke.
I’ve always noticed that little detail too and I love that!

If you also do 'Deathproof' in your Tarantino series, you'll see Zoe Bell on screen, who was Uma Thurman's stunt double in the two 'Kill Bill' films.
She's also in the hateful 8
And 'Django Unchained' although she appears as a masked character who doesn't say a word. Also 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'.
