  • Ajahn Brahm’s opinion is sought on a proposal to limit religious vilification or a proposal against the freedom of speech. Ajahn Brahm offers a different perspective and instead of looking at how vilification occurs by our speech and how to speak properly, he looks at how we let vilification happen by listening in the wrong way. So Ajahn gives a teaching on how to listen with wisdom and compassion.

I believe this lecture can go a step further that instead of just listening and praising one another, we should listen and praise ourselves. We can not only be kind in listening to what people have to say to us to express themselves, but our spirit can also be kind by listening to what our mind has to say to express itself. Once we do, we can start letting go and truly start living in the present :).

It's not the noise that disturb us, it's we who disturb the noise. Beautifully said (:

I'd like to change how I feel about noise. But even the police seem to agree with me about the noise my neighbors keep up outside, arguing with each other, threatening each other and coming to blows. Yea, great neighborhood.

I had your problem (lived in a busy street in London) and I changed location, now where I live there's one human (me) every 10 square miles and plenty of wildlife (birds/frogs/cats) same life, same world yet beautiful.
