From the Wall: Mother. It sets the tone for understanding who Pink is.
The Wall, incredible and historic album of Pink Floyd, a masterpiece.
When I was at school a lot of the teachers hated children. A handful of my teachers were kind, but the rest were cruel bastards who enjoyed belittling and beating us. Thank God times have changed.
Sadistic Fuks. That has been my experience too.
Really true! Times have changed so much!
True but it certainly improved my Geography and English Literature.
It concentrated my mind wonderfully :)
@@Isleofskye I see we lost you to them, rip...
My English Literature has improved, accordingly, though...
The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them and I have never let my schooling interfere with my education....
Just remember that the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.
I was a freshman in high school when this movie came out, and believe me, it had the teachers scared shitless. They wanted it banned, which of course just made us want to see it more.
I like how part two of this song is super famous, while the first part is almost not played... There are actually two parts, you know.
there's actually 3 parts
@@c6quad3 Yeah, it really is. I actually didn’t know that. Thanks for letting me know 😊
Part III is only about a minute and a half or so, but it's brilliant. "I don't need no arms around me" (human arms or arms as in guns? only Roger knows) "and I don't need no drugs to calm me", "no don't think I need anything at all". A plea to just be left alone? Awesome album, and incredible movie. Waters keeps the theme he started on the DSOTM album about greed/war and a dormant society that let's the elites (corrupt gov'ts and huge corporations) get away with anything. Right up through till The Final Cut he felt passionate about the plight of "regular" people. And there's always been that underlying motif throughout his songwriting. As an amateur guitar hack I've always been partial to Gilmour, but Roger Waters has a very interesting mind. Cheers from the canadian Queen nut.
@@jeffcampbell668 Wow, that was much info. Thank you! 😊
90% of the time when I listen to commercial rock stations they play 'Happiest Days...' before 'Brick In The Wall'.
This song is absolutely brilliant! Nobody deserves to be shamed, bullied or humiliated 💯
Right!
This is the anthem of many school generations. Have some good memories
I love y'all so much!! Music is life changing, isn't it? You're on the greatest journey of your life George & Patrick!
Close your eyes & listen to the guitar riffs. 🎸
Here you are!
Same
The Wall album came out first then the movie came out a few years later. The man who played the adult version of the character of Pink in the movie is Sir Bob Geldof. Geldof helped organize Live Aid in the mid-80s.
The lad grows up to become a rock star - His name is Pink......Remember the lyrics to "Have a Cigar" ? - "....and by the way, which one is Pink" ? - Bob Geldof plays Pink when older.....I saw the movie first at it's original cinema release. The cinema was packed and a roar came from everyone at the beginning when it showed a massive close up of a hand holding a Marijuana spliff. Lol
You don’t need drugs when you got Pink Floyd. I’m addict❤️
This came out when I was at school. We loved singling it behind teachers backs! 😀😀
Hey You - Pink Floyd
I was a high school freshman when this album came out, numerous school districts banned this song from any school functions...I know at least five countries banned the album all together..this reaction just made it more popular with kids world wide
I was a HS Junior. My baddy. rebel friends turned me on to it. Glad they did.
I just made pretty much the same comment before I read yours.
I close my eyes and I'm back in my room in the 80's with the same feeling, crazy
If you want a dirty baseline from this album then you need to listen to Young lust but please listen to the track before it (empty spaces) first to fully appreciate the transition. Amazing. But let’s get real this album is designed to be listened from start to finish without stopping. It’s a sequential masterpiece.
Can't wait until you've done all the songs off this album and can listen front to back.
Well said, on everything. I'm 50 y/o and I couldn't have said it better.... You have to let children follow their dreams and interests. Be there to guide them, not force them down a societally accepted path. I'm loving watching this journey.... You've both got good heads on your shoulders. Greetings from the U.S.A. Rock on brothers....
You need to watch the whole movie. It is an experience.
Love this song, love the whole album xx
8:32 My man, you're so wise, that's exactly the meaning of the song. Currently here in my country Colombia, my generation get tired, we finally woke up (thanks to globalization and internet) and we are fighting and protesting against the government for our rights and for a better life. 12:14 Maaaan you talked everything about what is happening in Colombia right now, the world is hearing us thanks to internet and we have multiple evidence of the police brutality and repression thanks to cameras and we are sharing with the world under hashtags like "SOSColombia", our corrupt government is so scared and they are killing us in desperation, making the situation worse every day.
Edit: Yesterday, Roger Waters himself talked about the situation in Colombia, in his Twitter account.
I had an art teacher in school who, long story I won't go into, destroyed all artistic creativity I had.
On the other hand, I had a literature teacher who changed my life forever through an appreciation of language and literature that helped me throughout my life.
It can go both ways ... you hope teachers understand the brevity of their responsibility to our children.
Brilliant, it’s like watching you guys going through my record collection, picking out the masterpieces.
Pink Floyd another brick in the wall live reaction
Off topic from Pink Floyd, but you need to do some current alternative music from the 2000s and 2010s
Cage the Elephant (Ain't No Rest for the Wicked, Cigarette Daydreams, Shake me Down, Too Late to Say Goodbye)
Arctic Monkeys (Do I Wanna Know? & R U Mine?)
The Black Keys (Lonely Boy, Little Black Submarines)
Jack White (Lazaretto, I'm Shakin', and so many more)
The White Stripes (Seven Nation Army, Icky Thump, Hotel Yorba, Ball and Biscuit, and so many more)
The Raconteurs (Steady as She Goes, Carolina Drama, Sunday Driver)
Dead Weather (I Can't Hear You, I Feel Love, Treat me Like Your Mother)
21 Pilots (Stressed Out, Holding on to You)
Evanescence (you will fall in love with her -- Bring Me To Life, My Immortal)
Kaleo (Way Down we Go, No Good)
Rag n Bone Man (Human)
Highly Suspect (Lydia, My Name is Human
Gorillaz (Feel Good Inc, Clint Eastwood, Saturn's Bars)
Portugal. The Man (Feel It Still, Modern Jesus, Purple Yellow Red and Blue, Noise Pollution, So Young, Live in the Moment)
Catfish and the Bottlemen (Soundcheck and 7)
AWOLNATION (Sail, Kill Your Heroes)
The Revivalists (Wish I Knew You, Keep Going, Catching Fireflies, Criminal)
All bands that play instruments in this day and age rather than relying on so much mixing and dubbing and autotuning.
an authentic masterpiece! remember to finish pulse👍
You must listen the pulse version of this!!! Coz that is where the magic is really!!
Gracias a mi hermana que me enseñó ésta música desde pequeña💜💜💜💜💜🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
This brings me back to my youth, seeing the movie "The Wall" at the drive In theater. Great times, great music.
An ANTHEM!!!
The background film detracts from Gilmour's solo.
The entire album is a complete Masterpiece....!
Please do solo David Gilmour ~ "No Way Out Of Here", "Raise My Rent", "So Far Away" and "No Way".... I promise you will not regret it...!
The blue dude
Do Gilmour's "On an Island"....live version from "Remember That Night" with David Crosby and Graham Nash from CSN providing harmonies: ruclips.net/video/kEa__0wtIRo/видео.html
No way is such a great tune
@@dirtycow Absolutely...!
This is the Wall movie version, film dialogue & effects tend to be distracting so I'd suggest the studio version. Plus, the Wall live 1981 is stunning although the film footage is a bit dark. The 'poems' the teacher reads out are the lyrics from 'Money'. This song reached no1 in the UK charts over Christmas 1979 making it Floyds only No1 hit and the last UK single of the 1970's. There is a short 'pop video' version made just for the single, mainly featuring kids on a housing estate mixed with clips from the movie. Bob Geldof is Pink in the movie (photo of him at 7.21), later instrumental in getting Floyd back together for their last ever appearance at Live 8 2005 - you guys gotta do that!!. Bob also guests on the encore Comfortably Numb in David Gilmour live 2002, which is brilliant. Great reaction as usual guys, enjoying your channel & journey of musical discovery.....
The "poem" is lyrics form "Money".... Great Catch..!!!
love it when george looked at patrick to say u ready this going get real lol
I knew this was coming soon 💖 You are supposed to hate the teacher 😂 We all hated him!!
when you can , look The Wall the movie .. 😎👍
There are 3 parts to this song and this is part 2, the most popular part.
QUEEN rain must fall reaction
The problem with watching the movie version you don't notice the guitar solo.
You need to do the whole album if not most of the songs even the songs that aren’t hits man!!!!
When this came out it caused uproar with the oldies it was brilliant and still resonates, kids being made into thoughtless robots. And schools back then at least mine was lethal.
Oh yeah I got canned it was worth being young then it was brilliant loved it.
Plis react to hey you pink floyd
My favourite one by Pink Floyd 💜
@@paulina9216 Is so beautiful this song ♥️
was lucky to see them in concert best ever
The wall, the best album of pink floyd for me,,tnx bros
Best Open Air Concert I have ever been to Mannheim Germany 1988, to this day when i listen to Pink Floyd i get the feeling of this concert
Everything he loves, leaves him... His Dad, the rat, his woman....
His Television and eyebrows too.
Good reaction, you get PF’s perspective and your reaction was thoughtful.
Teachers were allowed to swat us when I was in school. We also had smoking areas and were allowed to drive off campus for lunch. Times have changed. This song takes me back to high school. I loved this reaction from you both! Everything you guys said is spot on! Thank you!
Classic
That teacher in the video reminds of a teacher at the senior school that I went to (Liversedge Secondary Modern) proper bar steward he was, banged my head against the wall for not paying attention and that was nothing compared to some of the things he did to some of the lads, another teacher would drag you by your tie, blackboard rubbers hitting you round the head...I hated school....Good reaction as always lads
iconic theme
Great reaction as always
I saw them in concert in 1993. Best concert I've ever been to hand down.
There is a verse ... but also two from Dogs' lyrics that "anticipate" the content of this track:
«Who was told what to do by the man»
«Who was broken by trained personnel»
___
Beware that the film has a lot of diversity … as well as generating distraction from the music and lyrics.
For example, one of the most significant tracks, "Hey You", is not in the film because it was impossible to make plausible images on it.
You are always the best ...
guys you need to hear a song called Hypa Hypa, I'm sorry but I forgot the name of the band lol, but the song is sensational, you will like it very much. Brazilian fan here🇧🇷🇧🇷
Back in the 70’s there was a dress code at my public high school in America that jeans were not allowed to be worn to school. So we protested and got that changed. But also when I was in junior high we couldn’t wear sandals so that was my first experience at rebelling against the system and we got that rule changed. There is a lot of music from my youth about fighting the system and at 67 I still consider myself a rebel. Goes to show that we are a product of our environment. Pink Floyd was my favorite and watching you guys react to them is really fun!
You MUST absolutely watch the movie !!!!!
Their first song heard in childhood . Now, Hey You reaction, please
Another brick in the wall --- pulse 👍
Waited in line, the day this was released,
So I could buy the first copy! Incredible
Album!
I'm so pleased to hear you get the "system", I've seen people react to this and completely miss the point.
Being from London, I feel like this song is in my blood :)
Well of course ✌❤ I always taught my Son to question authority especially in the Educational System.this is just one of stories, It started when I was young, being part Native American I never could understand the Columbus Day Holiday. So years later when my son was in 1st grade and was instructed to write a story about Columbus, I had him research with me along with my input. Then the 1st of many phone calls through the years came. My answer to most of these interesting questions they came up with was always, :You are not going to teach my Son and fellow citizen of this planet, false narratives, government criteria and lies. That always seem to quiet them. Always, in a respectful manner, question authority and make the truth be heard. To think of the environmental impact those history books of lies made. Just a quick tale, I even had a teacher call me one late evening very drunk because she couldn't answer a question my Son had asked,
well not on school grounds anyway. She changed her occupation the following semester, I believe it was my Son who taught her the lesson that day. Proud Mama ✌❤ Respect 💋
My parents were teachers. That was totally not funny for me. 😩
They studied at the art academy. It is interesting what you said in your comments because they see it in another way. Yes education in some countries is so strict because they don't want you to be smart or learning things that can be a treath to the system.
But when social media came; children lost their creativity according to my mother. She said: They don't think what to make during my classes. They look at my example and instead of using that as an example, they are copying it.
And where were you guys all my life?
"Yeah leave those kids alone man"
Exactly my thoughts when I was grounded.
Great comments on a great song! Thank you!
Pink Floyd: The Wall - Empty Spaces
Well said guys- sorry I hadn't got to here as soon as you wanted me, but I didn't forget you two. And yep, sadly- the crap that's going on right now is NOTHING when I was a kid. I mean, jeeze, I was always outside playing not everyday online, and bedtime was 8:00. No such thing as internet, and man- there were times I wasn't supposed to even watch TV (which only had ~ 10 or 11 channels-. 3, 5, 8 19 25 29, 45, 49, 55, 62 and sometimes 23) kids now are spoiled beyond more than they know. =^_^= -Foxlink
When I was a kid my dad had to come the school so many times for my behaviour. He would always quote the lyrics of this song 😂 love you dad.
yes
Welcome to my future guys, Welcome to the Machine, take up the baton and run with it.
Check out Springsteen’s Ghost of Tom Joad at Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 25 th anniversary. Still rings true about fighting the system.
Devastating images of the have not.
Guitar work by Tom Morello is something to behold.
Hunger Strike by two legends. Rage and pain.
This album should be done in its entirety, moreso than any other album.
It is a Rock Opera, and should be experienced that way.
Doing the tracks of an entire side of the original vinyl records per session is the best way.
This is really, really good. I was a teenager when the wall was new. My Georgian Brothers (I'm Welsh and follow your Rugby Team - they are proper good). What you say about education is correct - I'm >20 years older than you.
For better versions of this track, check Roger Waters The Wall Live in Berlin 1990 and Pink Floyd Pulse 1994 at Earls Court. Different artists versions of the same song that they originally performed together.
Before Direct Deposit became a thing, the goal of the education system was to teach you to show up at a big building every morning, and how to sign your name in order to endorse your paycheck.
The man in the photograph at the very end was Bob Geldolf, who was the Star of The Wall, but was also the lead singer for the Irish Band "The Boomtown Rats". He was the guy who organized the LIVE AID CONCERT in 1985. And he is now known as "Sir Robert Geldof". Check out The Boomtown Rats Hit "I Don't Like Mondays", a song about one of the 1st School shootings back in the late 70s.
Or how about the studio version of SCHOOL'S OUT by ALICE COOPER.
🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
I seen Pink Floyd The Wall 3 times, I did that because you miss little parts first time so I seen the movie 3 times to let it all in, it was awesome!! Back in the day school was emotionally hard. Great reactions guys!! 🤘👍✌️
There's a famous quotation... 'Show me the boy at 7, and I'll show you the Man.'
The system is about conformity from the age of 4.
Crushing your dreams and pigeonholing you.
I would make school optional if I were in charge.
7 Up!
Well said guys!
My 7th and 8th grade teacher was the principal and this one 5th grader kid used to act up so he'd paddle him with his "board of education", it actually said that on it and it had holes in it for less wind resistance. He'd smirk before he walked across the hall to his office to whip him. It was SICK. I told my parents and they complained so it finally stopped but I still wonder how TF he got hired for that position in the first place, oh wait, Catholic. Never mind.
Those of us who went to Catholic School thought this song was written for us. lol We were taught piety, orthodoxy and discipline. Pink Floyd gave us our anthem to say, well that was messed up.!!!
2:42 man of culture
Thanks you for doing that thanks
Sometime when you get time should check out Dogs of War. As relevant today as it was when it was written. But it does need some volume to breath.
Great reaction guys, keep it up!
very good analysis. in the song, the education in the school is not criticized but the system that the children use for their political doctrine. that the children will process into minced meat is a symbol: they will process into cannon fodder. Have a Good day !
I'm a wild and crazy guy!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t know why I thought you’d done this before......glad you’re doing the album though.....fabulous....
Idk if you will see this comment guys but please check out the band dirty honey they are a modern rock band that has amazing classic rock influences
OMG OMG this album is perfect. OMG OMG Pink Floyd is god, I loved when George & Patrick enjoy pink floyd, I love reaction, Reac to Money PULSE 1994 and Keep Talking PULSE 1994 and Come Back To Life PULSE 1994 is crazy and beautiful. react to this artwork to find out that David Gilmour is from another planet and is a guitar god. Please.
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic featuring the late, great Eddie Hazel on lead guitar. One of the all-time great guitar solos. You will never be the same after you you hear this solo. There are live versions and audio versions. I highly recommend the audio version , as it has the highest quality sound. Please, my brothers, do this for the fans and yourselves !
The poems are actually song lyrics to their other song Money
The phone ringing at the end was the beginning of money
FREEEEEEDOM!
You must check out Brit Floyd's version of this. U Tube Brit Floyd at Red Rock. Watch the whole gig too. Fantastic
Awesome channel 👍 Pink Floyd and the Beatles are the 2 best bands that ever lived
Great channel! I just wish there was a link to hear this song without the video. For me there were just too many noises preventing me from hearing the guitar solo properly. The video and movie are great but I prefer your reactions to the music. Did you notice the extremely clean tone of David Gilmour’s guitar during the solo ? As a teenager, I guess I fell in love with the song first and then the movie.
One of the best songs ever written is “For Crying Out Loud” by Meat Loaf, written by Jim Steinman.
pink floyd only ever released 1 single...... and it stayed in the UK charts for hundreds of weeks.
Hello guys how are you both ok I hope guess what chaps the words in the boys poem is from the song MONEY from The Dark Side of the Moon
Need to do the LIVE Remastered 2019 version at Pulse Concert
There are three parts to this song on the album, you should do a review of each
MOTHER... Don't miss it...
