  • I show you how to make a wedding cake out of boxed cake mix and canned frosting and to end off my winter holidays I did a super fun collaboration with TikTok cake decorating star, @cakelegend. Aliya is such a talented decorator and I was thrilled when she came up with this collaboration idea in which we would both be given 10 words and would randomly select 3 to help shape the design of our cakes.

      I use box mix but I use #KarolynKakes recipe, I just started using it maybe 6 cakes ago, but so far everyone is absolutely in love with how the cakes turned out, and that was like 4 different flavors. But everyone said it was the best cake they ever tasted...
      She doesn't follow anything on the box, basically using it as a pre-Sweetened Pre-Flavored self-raising flour, and adds her own fats milks and flavors.... You should check it out. I am thinking of trying your idea of buttermilk in place of the milk in her recipe.... I think for a white or yellow cake that is a butter cake that would be awesome.
      This is a very pretty cake. I went to buy rice paper, and ended with wafer paper and am not having as much fun with it as I'd hoped lol.
      Question? Do you make your own fondant? I am wanting to try to make my own soon and was wondering, is it possible to make it chocolate? Like add cocoa powder to the powder sugar before adding it in to a marshmallow fondant recipe.
      Has anyone tried this yet?

    Canned frosting is a time saver and i use it for my homemade cakes in a pinch. But i add a pinch of salt, a couple tablespoons of heavy cream, a table spoon of appropriate extract, icing sugar and butter. This tweak reduces that terrible too sweet sensation and makes it taste a bit more home made. My son and I prefer semi naked cakes so with the tweaks one can is enough for a two tier 8 inch cake.

      Start setting minimums. So you can still offer those cakes at more worth your while prices. Ie: $300 starting price for any cake regardless. Eventually you’ll start naturally sifting out those smaller cakes and those that truly love your work will continue to purchase from you for those prices or opt to get bigger more extravagant cakes. Also be sure to start only posting those bigger cakes on your social media!

    This cake is so stunning! Hi everyone quick question, is store bought frosting grainy at all? Even after whipping it?
    I am seeking a recipe for american buttercream, something very smooth and fluffy, no grains and not too too sweet. I'd love your input guys! Thanks in advance.

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 года назад +4

      Thanks so much! I always find American buttercream-store bought or homemade a slight bit grainy. Homemade is still better, but I wouldn’t say it super smooth and it’s generally on the sweeter side unless there’s cocoa or coffee in it because it takes a certain amount of confectioners sugar for it to get to the right texture. I would go with an Italian or Swiss meringue buttercream if you’re looking for super smooth and not too sweet, but if you only want to make an American buttercream then I suggest sifting your icing sugar to combat some of that grainy texture. Hope that helps!! 🥰

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 года назад +2

      Ah yes. American buttercream would definitely be the best choice in terms of being able to hold up to the heat (and of course it doesn’t include eggs so that’s a plus). If you whip it for a long time it should get smooth enough. Good luck with the cake! 🥰

      @@zaneblane8160 the more fondant you use the more expensive a cake becomes. I’m not completely through the video but being that I do see that she covered the cakes in fondant is what causes the price to go up. I have a home baker who I always order cakes from, she’s super good at decorating and her cakes are always delicious. To me she’s very reasonably priced. I recently ordered a cake from her for my sons 2nd birthday in February. It’s a two tiered cake, feeding 30 people, baby shark themed and does use a lot of fondant. She charged me $165 for that cake. I also ordered one for my nephew which is bubble guppies themed and she charged me $175. Oh and each one comes with a smash cake. My sister in law was mind blown when I told her the price of the cakes. She was just going to get her sons from Meijer or Kroger until she decided to go with my cake lady. I told her yeah Meijer/Kroger cake would be way cheaper but you also get what you pay for. You’re paying $30 for a regular sheet cake with icing that says happy birthday. This cake has a lot of fondant work and a lot of characters that need to be made. I wish YT allowed us to upload pictures because I’d love to show both cakes. I personally don’t believe the cake in this video should be $300-$350 it’s a white, two tiered cake with minimum decoration. My cake lady would probably do $150. But hey to each their own.

    Wow!! It looks so beautiful, you did an AMAZING job!!🤗 I just have some good news to share with you!
    “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    “and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭16‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭KJV

    But, by making this, you are making an underwhelming cake regardless of how beautiful it looks. I don’t see the point

    Do you tell you customers the cakes are boxed and pre-made cheap frosting? Thanks for the tip on the spring roll wrappers -- other than that BLAH!

      I personally didn’t sell cakes made from premixes or canned frostings. Everything was made from scratch. This is more for someone to do if they like experimenting with decorating, but don’t like baking. That being said, I know plenty of bakers that use boxed cake mix and I would imagine this is public knowledge with their customers!
