    Cryptocoryne is one of the most popular, and widely available aquatic plants in the aquarium hobby. It has several color variations, and can be found in green, red and brown colors. The size of the leaves can vary greatly, and even the texture of the leaves can differ from plant to plant.
    Growing this plant is easy and beginners can comfortably plant it in their aquarium without much hassle. It is a great choice of plant because it can do well in both high and low light intensity. Even though the plant will respond to CO2 injection, it is advisable not necessary.
    When you take this plant from its natural place and introduce in an aquarium setting, you will have to offer it stable conditions and be a little patient with it for it to adjust. Once the plant gets used to the new environment it will easily grow and thereafter no issues will interfere with its growth.
    Propagation is simple for cryptocoryne, and involves removing a small portion of the root with some stem attached. This can then be planted in the substrate, and will slowly develop into a new plant. One common practice is to pull mature plants apart, creating numerous new plants which can then be spread across the aquarium or sold to others.

    Can you cut them if it's getting too much? If I want to keep my tank setup how would I trim them?

    Thank you I’ve been lookin’ for a video that shows and explains exactly how you pull crypts out of the soil I’ve had mine in my tank for almost 10 years and never touched them except to get hair algae off the leaves and give them root tabs because I was afraid I’d tear up the roots and get a shit load of crypt melt💯💀

      Thank you! I'm full of weird ways to use our tools, I just have to remember to film the clips lol. You can also use a net to catch dirt while pouring the bucket into another bucket, but you'll lose finer grains.

    I love my singular crypt so much. He’s exploding in plain sand, no root tabs, just some liquid fertilizer when I think of it. My local aquariums haven’t had any more in stock for months 😭

      if you added a root tab it would blow up! They are great at getting their nutrients from the water column as well, but if you gave the roots some food you would see how fast they can spread!

    Great overview on crypts, moving. Do you recommend trimming the roots on them before replanting? Also regarding the plastic water bottles I should be looking for # 2 or 5&6.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  3 года назад +1

      Um, you can if they're unmanageable, but I don't. Crypts are pretty sensitive already so it's best to be as gentle as we can when moving them IMO.
      #5 is best, I would avoid #2 and #6 as they can degrade over time and add microplastics IIRC.

    I planted a red crypt in my 55g with stock LEDs that came with the "kit". I have jungle val, petite and broad leaf anubias, Christmas moss, different varieties of java ferns, and the stock lights are doing fine with all of them. But, do you think the red crypt will turn red without stronger lighting or co2 injections? It's in gravel and came in great shape. It has been 4 days and I'm beginning to see a little melt which I know it will come back.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  Год назад +1

      Crypt melt is expected. It's hard to say if you'll see the red, I would lean towards yes as that's what colour the plant wants to be. It might not be as vibrant compared to the same plant under better lighting but it should still stand out.

      They look and do the best planted in the substrate, but they can survive if uprooted.
