In my first playthrough of pokemon X, the first pokemon I met on the route after the connecting cave was a first encounter shiny absol. Absol is one of my favourite pokemon. I saved at least 10 times after catching it
i encountered 3 shinys before ever catching 1. first was a chansey in safari zone. another was an abra and the last was zubat that i killed in one shot. my first shiny was pidgey. this was in a fire red

Your struggles with Gyarados make me feel so vindicated. I've been saying all along that the Water/Flying combo is legitimately dangerous when Electric types are out of the picture, but people bang on about the double weakness as if this instantly makes the pairing as bad as Bug/Grass or Rock/Steel.
And easily covered for by a teammate, with the only other weakness being Rock. Which I must reiterate that we're discussing a Water type. Additionally Flying is far better coverage against Water resists than Ice can ever hope to be. Plus, I must also bring up: Fire is a powerful type but Bug/Steel is fantastic despite that. _Clearly_ a double weakness by itself isn't the end of the world.

Your struggles with Gyarados make me feel so vindicated. I've been saying all along that the Water/Flying combo is legitimately dangerous when Electric types are out of the picture, but people bang on about the double weakness as if this instantly makes the pairing as bad as Bug/Grass or Rock/Steel.
Electric is a really powerful type
And easily covered for by a teammate, with the only other weakness being Rock. Which I must reiterate that we're discussing a Water type. Additionally Flying is far better coverage against Water resists than Ice can ever hope to be.
Plus, I must also bring up: Fire is a powerful type but Bug/Steel is fantastic despite that. _Clearly_ a double weakness by itself isn't the end of the world.
in sinnoh id actually just choose chimchar half the time and just catch a 2nd pokemon for "thunder duties"
Well both rock/steel & bug/grass have two quad weakness.
