While checking the slipper: go ahead and clean some of the grease from the area - or at least ensure it doesn't look like it has gotten on the slipper. Credit: Jeremy Kilburn
3d print if you have the capability to a brace for the panhard mount on the axle. and also either make a brace to doubleshear the chassis side panhard mount or get the aluminum shock mounts for the front. alot of the "weak servo" issues are actually from the panhard mounts just flexing instead of turning the wheels.
It’s crazy that 45 minutes of run time is now considered short. When I started racing we ran nickel-cadmium batteries and had to do everything possible to make a pack last for a 4 minute race.
Hi Troy. Wow, you've literally read my mind. First the slipper. Getting it set correctly could save your axle ring and pinion gears. I'm seeing reports of failed gears and this most likely is due to an over tightened slipper. We need an access hole with plug in the spur gear cover so we can use the adjust-try-adjust method for getting the slipper properly adjusted. Second, body clearance. I'm actually thinking about going the other direction; trimming the screw bosses for the brackets that hold the fenders onto the body. It's these screw bosses that hang up on the inner fenders so they really should be made shorter. Third, batteries. I've given this a lot of thought and I want to install a wye connector but run it through a toggle switch that's accessible from underneath so I can easily switch batteries out on the trails without removing the body. I think of it like switching my motorcycle gas tank to reserve when it gets low on fuel so I don't have to push it to the filling station. If you run the truck on both batteries and you don't carry a spare in your pocket, you could be lugging this pig back to the car - not fun! Having to flip a switch could prompt you that you've reached half way on the trial and it's time to turn back and begin making your way back to the parking lot. Anyway, I'm a new subscriber and I really like the SCX6 content you are uploading. Keep up the good work!!
Hi! The Battery switch... GOOD! 😎 The diff-backslash /Toleranzes/Fabrication-quality ... AXIAL's MAIN - PROBLEM... Remember the SCX10 III Gladiator(i have one) ... "Click cklick click" All around the drivetrain... Well thougt... Bad done. For the Price of TWO(!!!) SCX10III Gladiator's!!! The spectrum esc... A little bit small, i think, to this beast of motor in comparision. What do you think about that? 🤔
Thanks for the tips. Going to tear apart the transmission to check the slipper. Already changed out the weak servo with a Reefs Beast 1000. Had to mod the stock horn. And also changed out the tires for Hyrax. They fit the stock wheels perfectly. Order a set of shock towers from Vitavon to stiffen up the tie rod mount on the front. And upgraded the Spektrum radio to the rugged radio to get more fine-tune adjustments. A little worried about the ring and pinion stripping too
Thanks! What spec of Hyrax did you go with? The ones for the Super Rock Rey? I was afraid they would be too stiff since they are mean more for rock racing.
I use the 3rd battery tray for all my chassis mounted lighting. Just a small helios 1500mah 3s. And i have found both the reaction 3s 5000mah hard case and my Goldbat 5200 3s soft fit the trays fine. Absolutely love the xl tires i have 3 sets of those laying around 😂
You can see if you can find a shoulder screw something that is an M3 for the threads but his 4 mm on the shoulder to go through the linkage and then the 3 mm with thread into your servo horn
Hey bud. Great info and enjoying the channel. I picked up one of these rigs. I installed wheel weights in the rims. Also trimmed the bumpers for better approach and departure. But I have been thinking about adding weight to the front bumper. Maybe in the bumper of a tow chain.
Thanks! I am waiting for some brass parts to put on the axle. That is really where I like to add my weight. This isn't my truck, so I didn't trim the bumpers - but it could really use it! Nice idea there!
Your link in the description for the Y connector no longer works. I don’t have my SCX6 yet, so I just need to know if the connector on the truck is male or female. It’s an IC5 male on the Jeep, correct?

Good tips . Checking the hardware tightness is a must for all RC vehicles IMO . Even the good companies make mistakes , That servo thing is pretty bad . I would drill and retap to 4 mm to install the better one .
Such an interesting concept for a rig considering how most crawlers are 10th scale It's never something that I would purchase but it definitely is a really cool machine.
Asking that much $$$ for this rig. You would think these little issues would not even have to think about.. Oh Horizon Hobbies, you are taking down the great name Axial Racing has developed. One rig at a time.. POOR!! ...... Troy. Nice work letting people know what they are getting into when they get this thing. Thumbs up here
@@nj2033 Agreed. It really is unfortunate. These companies, Traxxas, Axial..etc.. whatever you think of them, are making enough $$$ to produce better quality rigs. In my humble opinion
Well I thought of Deleting this comment. But I decided against it. Instead I thought I would eat a little Crow. lol I am taking back what I said here. After a couple months of seeing some videos on this rig it is actually pretty cool. Now I DO think there are some things they could of done to improve it before releasing . But all in all a great rig. and you got to love that size. Troy I am thinking that I must have been in a real foul mood on the day I wrote that comment. I am usually not so negative with out some positivity in there to offset it. lol Oh did I mention I got one on the way... 😁
This video somehow made me lose faith in the RC hobby as a whole. You don't need to trim the fenders. That's just annoying. And you don't need to swap some sweet looking tires with something as unscale and ugly as those Yeti-things. I wanted to buy a SCX6, but now I have serious doubts. This all just made me depressed. Maybe I should buy.. I don't know.. a Tamiya on-road car or something..
Sorry the video had that impact on you. Of course, you don't have to trim the fenders. It is a recommendation to reduce hassle. Really don't think I would suggest a Tamiya on-road vehicle...
@@RoadsideRC Sorry, I was a bit harsh. I liked the video and subscribed. The tips are good. What will probably keep me away from scx6 is that I fear upgrades are gonna be very expensive.
Help other folks here! Do you have additional ideas to help others? Put them below this comment so it is easy to find.
Checking screws: specifically look at the servo horn. Some folks have had the servo horn be loose.
While checking the slipper: go ahead and clean some of the grease from the area - or at least ensure it doesn't look like it has gotten on the slipper.

Ha! Good point!
However, racing vs crawling is still a different world for battery life.

Over two dozen arrived here (and counting) in the PNW without the ESC being calibrated/programmed. Check page 10 of the manual for how to do that
Nice add! Thanks!

Really hard for me to put something that far back in the chassis - it just isn't where I want ANY weight! :)
The ring and pinion, will probably need to be checked for back lash. I used 12x15.5x0.2mm washer’s to fill in the gap
Great tip!
that rear battery mount, works well for a BEC battery . IMHO a 15 amp Bec
Good idea!

Welche Akkus nehme ich bei Doppelbetrieb?
Sie werden 2, 3S-Batterien betreiben. Sie werden in Reihe geschaltet, so dass sie immer noch nur 3S-Spannung liefern, nur die doppelte Laufzeit.
Great tips and information
Thanks for watching!
Check the front axles, the pins will come loose and rip a slot in your upper and lower A frame's, get the upgraded front axles
Good tip!
Why would I check the slipper if it’s not slipping?
They were set wrong from the factory.
Good video, unfortunately kits a good idea to check all new cars.
Yes, nothing is perfect. At least nothing I work on! :)
Can i run a 4s -5s on it ?
It will take 4S.
