Great review! For the steering, I just bound a dx5c which allowed individual D/R tuning and added more throw to the right, also added a longer screw and a few spacers between the servo horn and steering link so the angle wasn’t as extreme. Turns much better and even on right and left. My only gripe if I had one would be the proprietary sensor cable to the motor making an esc swap un-doable w/o changing the motor as well, along with the motor mount not allowing aftermarket motors. Would prefer a more creeping capable esc for crawling personally. There are a few panhard braces u can make to eliminate the flex as well, I ended up just getting the metal axles and shock towers. (plus the silver axles and towers just look great lol). From hearing the axial designer live chat, they are selling well so wouldn’t be surprised if the other companies are cooking up a 6th scale. Again, great review!
Thank you for the newsy and informative comment :) I've got a few bits of alu bracket I was considering making into a stiffening frame to help with the panhard, but for now I'm going to just drive it some more to get a deeper feel for the rig overall. So while there are some other impressive rigs out there right now, I might set some money aside to be ready for whatever else comes to the sixth scale party! Here's hoping!
Great review. Your right the steering is the biggest downfall. I bumped mine up to 7.4 v and added a capacitor the the receiver. Definitely better but still not great. Sucks your body cracked. I've heard some are thin. I've rolled mine several times and it's still intact. Lucky I guess. Enjoy!

I bet it would have added more than another hundred! It'd add a fair bit of stress to the drive line, given its weight. There's a reason real cars don't have such a feature, I'd think. Honestly, with the steering fixed it isn't a bad runner on the trails. The size alone makes for a pretty unique experience!
@@RCTNT we build are own twin stick transfers for rock crawling specialty rigs , especially useful for extreme trails in the west of the us. To the east , 4ws seems to be more prevalent at the moment, no small thanks to the rock bouncer racing.
Unfortunately you bought a green one. Seems to be something with only green ones cracking from posts in the groups. Must be a chemical reaction with the paint as I’m sure they all use the same bodies. I’ve beat on my silver one pretty good and the body is still in great shape. The SCX6 has ruined 1/10 for me. It’s my new go-to rig.
@@RCTNT I had a 4wd beast and that even messed with me for a bit when I went back to regular 1/10 scale rc lol. This scx6, the xmaxx and that UDR will be a one way trip to large scale land hahaha

That's very kind, thank you. I'm north of Melbourne, Australia. Have also fixed my steering and then made it a bit better again! Latest video here: ruclips.net/video/eUdQNWqkLJc/видео.html Great rigs aren't they!
@@RCTNT I have put a brace from shock to 3rd link to take away the play. I also upgraded to aluminum axles. Both broke on first run at 3rd link upright bracket. I made ones from stainless steel with a extra braze. No more weakness. I also cut the body to personal choice. Love it now. Decal out the sides with camo and it’s stronger as well 🧐
@@RCTNT I was also considering isolating the lights to a switch with two 1s batteries in parallel Velcro’d to the underside of the black reinforcement shell. So all the lights with their power pack removes with the body. I’ll also be adding a Walksnail Avatar VTX with its own battery pack too. Stock RX comes out after first few runs to be replaced with a RadioMaster ELRS RX & TX. Crazy range with RadioMaster Radios.
Go for it. For me, the trouble of managing extra batteries outweighs the trouble of connecting a jst plug or two when putting the body on. In any case, if you're changing the radio, you can also use an extra channel to control the lights if you have a light controller. I've gone down this route with some cars. It's a bit of effort but can be rewarding. With the Scx6 I just keep everything on, but I must admit a working brake and reverse light would be cool!
@@RCTNT For me, Function over scale aesthetics. I’ll install two toggle switches to independently control the FPV VTX & camera and the light system power. Have you seen anything to do with the new RadioMaster MT12?
I just got my 1/6 Honcho. Really like it a lot, but right away noticed the steering was seriously lacking. When the truck is sitting still and you try and go full left or right, it won’t go full stop unless the truck is moving. Would you say a better BEC would fix this? Also how did you wire the BEC in line? Thanks!
Bec definitely helps. Wire it the same way you'd usually do it for any crawler - power from the battery line to the BEC; a y-splitter from the receiver with red/power wire removed/disconnected to the receiver; BEC connects to the y-splitter and servo connects to the y-splitter too. Now the power goes from the bec to the servo while the signal still goes from the receiver.
I want one sooooo badly….. it’s also 10 pounds lighter than my 1:5 EXB. There’s soooo much space to get creative! Will the castle 2028/1100kv fit this platform?
It's a brilliant car to be sure! I know of a few who've put in the 2028 800kv with a 27T pinion and had good results. The 1100 would work too though you'll maybe find it too fast. Or you could be quite happy :)
Yep, it's rated for 7.4v. It did die eventually, but only recently. It was after heavy crawling. If it had stayed at a lower voltage, it might might still be alive now, but I prefer using its full rated strength!
@Mr. FiSH the TRX4 is a brilliant jack of all trades. The Slash is a fun basher but has its limitations. You've got nothing that can do big air with any great degree of control (Slash can jump but it's not the same) and the Xmaxx is just so different from the other two rigs you have! The SCX6 is a lovely machine, but it's trail-oriented rather than a dedicated crawler, despite how it looks on paper, and the TRX4 really has that kinda covered already, size aside. If you want a crawler and trail machine, the SCX6 is certainly special and I think you'll enjoy it. The bigger scale really adds to its trail presence. But the Xmaxx is more different to what you already have and it brings another dimension to your RC fun, while the SCX6 simply extends and changes a little what you already have in the TRX4 - though it's greater size certainly changes the experience! That's my logic, but again, it's down to personal preference. What do you want? What is lacking in your RC play? What do both these bring to the table that might answer those things best? Etc etc
Sucks about the shell, watched a vid before and the guy said going by the forums chat the green shell seems prone to cracking, maybe try a warranty replacement ?

I'd prefer single speed or 2 speed no other junk. More need to stop doing so much. I like motor forward like the gen8 gen9 setups.
It's great to have all this choice among manufacturers eh
Unfortunately you bought a green one. Seems to be something with only green ones cracking from posts in the groups. Must be a chemical reaction with the paint as I’m sure they all use the same bodies. I’ve beat on my silver one pretty good and the body is still in great shape.
The SCX6 has ruined 1/10 for me. It’s my new go-to rig.
Interesting! Glad you're enjoying yours!
Yeah I can see this rig possibly ruining 1/10 scale rc for me. I bought a UDR and after that all my 1/10 scale stadium trucks felt wrong hahaha.
@@makestuffmike messing with your head a bit, eh? I can understand!
@@RCTNT I had a 4wd beast and that even messed with me for a bit when I went back to regular 1/10 scale rc lol. This scx6, the xmaxx and that UDR will be a one way trip to large scale land hahaha
@@makestuffmike smell that? It's your wallet slowly roasting a hole in your pocket
Thank my fri. Much appreciated 🙏
No worries! We've done a fair bit more with it since this video too :)
Where are you from if I may ask. We are in Winkler Manitoba canada. I have done some personal upgrades on my steering. You are welcome to inbox me I will gladly share it with you.
That's very kind, thank you. I'm north of Melbourne, Australia.
Have also fixed my steering and then made it a bit better again! Latest video here:

Great rigs aren't they!
Decal out the sides with camo and it’s stronger as well 🧐
Beauty! Sounds epic! Thanks for sharing what you did, that's such a fun part of the hobby, eh?
So you just separated or isolated the steering servo Red & Black (neg/pos) wires with a separate BEC…? Keeping the signal wire in tact from the RX…?
Yep, you only need the positive (red) wire to go to the BEC for it to work, because they have a common ground.
@@RCTNT common ground, ok. 👍 thank you and Merry Christmas 🎄
@@RCTNT …. Yea that would be too fast and create unwanted heat. Mainly wanted to know if the 28 series would fit so that’s great. 500kv would be epic.
Totally! Though for what it's worth, the stock system is excellent.
Were you running the S905 on 7.2v? It handled the extra power ok?
Yep, it's rated for 7.4v. It did die eventually, but only recently. It was after heavy crawling. If it had stayed at a lower voltage, it might might still be alive now, but I prefer using its full rated strength!
@@RCTNT cheers bud 👍
I know these are totally different vehicles but I’m deciding whether I should get this or the X Maxx I already have a TRX-4 and Slash
With those vehicles already (nice choice!) I'd be getting the Xmaxx I think! But, very much a personal choice :)
@@RCTNT just a question about that, why would you pick the Xmaxx?
Etc etc
@@RCTNT thanks for this you have been super helpful:) I’m subbing
This thing blows the TRx4 away. It can traverse grass and weeds over a foot high whereas a 10th scaler cannot.
Sucks about the shell, watched a vid before and the guy said going by the forums chat the green shell seems prone to cracking, maybe try a warranty replacement ?
Thanks for the tip. Does seem to be that way!
Put a beast 2000 steering servo in it with braces in the pan hard bar to make them double sheer and it’s like a new truck
Agreed. I've done a lot with the truck on this channel. I'm running alu parts where needed now and a Holmes Hobbies 155kg servo on 8.4v. It steers just fine now 😎
What a beast, that turning though? :)
I'll get her fixed up :)

It really didn’t look that good your front axle wasn’t locked fully either front tire was dragging, I was about to buy this truck ended up with tx6 instead I’m happy I did. Good video man thank you… your course is too easy. Check out west coast scale trails in BC
Thanks, I've done a lot of follow up work with the Scx6 and it's well sorted now. I made an easy course to show the problem with the steering. Look over my channel and you'll see we do a lot with comps. I'm posting this from a comp I'm running right now 😎Cheers
When u get this u wanna upgrade it. Then it’s amazing it still is but yes it turns not so well cus u wanna upgrade servo all servo in every RC u want to upgrade then links

But you didn't walk in a store and buy this, because it was a pre-release that was sent to you, right? If they sold that to you with all the gunk on it and stuff, i'd bring it back to the store and ask him about it incase other things start showing up.
Nope, I paid for it, full retail. Pre ordered it and got one of the first batch.
The shock is sorted. The body, yeah, I'll keep an eye on it!
@@RCTNT Axial have been sending out replacement and unpainted bodies- Lucky you if it's unpainted, so you can make it yours. I really don't feel any of the colors, but the green was defintely more interesting. Hopefully some new colors will join soon with a couple of upgrades, such as the BEC and stronger servo mount.
Man that would be cool.
That'd give me the bravery to chop this one up, experimentally! Though I'd be happy to return it instead, whatever works for the local mob.
Bec is in. Today I'm tuning it with the programming card and we'll get that steering worked out! I'll film as I go, and we'll see where we get!
Spray the inside with truck bed liner coating
Flexible reinforcement, yeah? That's a creative idea!
Wall tape and shoe goo and it will not crack so easy
Thanks Rob. There's a flaw wiht the green bodies in particular, I understand - the polycarbonate is too thick and so it doesn't flex enough. Definitely your suggestion is sound and I've used that with good success over the past decade with the faster stuff.
In this case, Horizon have acknowledged the problem and have sent me a replacement clear body under warranty. It's here right now, waiting for me to finish planning the paint job! Cheers :)
Mine was cracked out of the box.
I notified my retailer who notified the distributor and they sent me a new body (that has been looking at me for 4 months waiting for me to get around to painting it!)
Let them know if you haven't already, they should take care of that for you.
That id an awesome rig and would totally get one, there a trail truck not a rock crawler.
I'd love a trail truck too, honestly! Though it might be too fast! The Scx6 is a very capable rock crawler and that is certainly what we're using them for here :)
(I did a mini series over Christmas that shows it on local river rock. Very satisfying to drive)

Very careful, yeah!
It's crazy when you see the video of that guy running on top of their green one, and even pulling a Ford Explorer with it. Yeah, of course that cracked to... but with good reason! LOL
@@YoShImUrA53 heh yeah, but that was worth it for the views. The ad revenue would have paid for that truck numerous times over.
I, on the other hand, would prefer *not* to see this thing busted up with less than an hours run time!
@@RCTNT No argument there about the reason behind the abuse of such an expensive perfectly new rig.
I was just thinking that a way to increase any channel's popularity would be to create more clickbaity content. Yet I feel you and your style of creating content wouldn't fall easily for that, or not any further than the thumbnail... I can only hope I'm right on this, as I really appreciate the content, style and informative traits of your reviews. :)
@@YoShImUrA53 thanks yoshi. I plan on staying roughly consistent with existing style and approach in future, with just more polish and hopefully less effort /higher efficiency - most videos take me ages to create and I'm hoping to lower that time investment.
I can't promise I won't do the occasional crazy thing to get eyeballs but despite how it might look, I'm continually conscious of the state of the planet and am looking to reduce my waste and resource consumption. My logic with all these crawlers is to hopefully reduce unnecessary purchases by many, so we can get our enjoyment from the hobby without all wastefully buying extra vehicles and finding we don't like them after the fact! Something like that, anyway!
wth are you doing man ? 😂😂😂
Having fun!
@@RCTNT definitely a wierd way of having fun driving like that 🥴
@@zhaar8799 don't knock it til you've tried it. Comp crawling is something many of us really get a kick out of. The challenge of pushing the rigs and ourselves to get the best time and score, it's quite a good day out.
