Today I'm painting the RTR Red Axial SCX6 Trail Honcho. With a few simple tweaks you can make this body look a lot better, while also adding scale realism by truly turning it into a Toyota Tacoma. I walk you through the entire paint process, show you how I chose to add some details and decals and show you the end result which you will also be able to achieve. I'm using really simple materials: some masking tape, a few cans of Tamiya PS paint for polycarbonate bodies, a sharp exacto knife, some scissors and of course the most important ingredient, a lot of payience. Be sure you work in a well ventilated area when using spray paint and always wear a mask.
If you are looking to convert your Axial SCX6 Jeep, the parts listed below are required to turn your JLU into a 6th scale Trail Honcho!
AXI250013 Demello Offroad Front Bumper - bit.ly/3BkB0Lv
AXI250014 Honcho rock Sliders - bit.ly/3QQC7Z5
AXI250015 Honcho SCX6 Fender Liners Front - bit.ly/3Ll0uNq
AXI45002 2.9" Falken Wildpeak M/T with Foams (2) - bit.ly/3Uexpr9
AXI250011 Body & Interior set - bit.ly/3eWZ4wA
AXI250012 Rear Cage Set Trail Honcho - bit.ly/3QRUIEd
AXI250016 LED kit 20st SCX6 Trail Honcho - bit.ly/3qHRwQT
Finally another version of the Axial SCX6 has arrived: The Trail Honcho! Taking some key features from both the 10th scale Trail Honcho and the recently released Axial Basecamp, this 1/6th scale giant packs an enormous amount of scale details and cool features to grab your attention and peak your curiosity. Numerous hard plastic details are used on the bodyshell and the interior panel, the rear cage has a new, more aggressive look with an integrated stinger. There is a trunk in which you can pack away some tools or spares, a fully functional spare tire is included on the back and 20 LED lights illuminate the darker days and nights. Below all these new visual novelties you find the same trusted SCX6 chassis, with an all new Demello Offroad front bumper, some new bar styled rock sliders and updated internal wheel arches to keep things clean. How does it compare to the Jeep, and what does it take to convert the Jeep? The all new Axial SCX6 is a 1/6th scale trail truck that packs a ton of features which you might know from its smaller brothers and sisters. This brand new developed vehicle has licensed items and some familiar looking design elements, such as the Trail Honcho bodyshell, the Black Rhino rims and the Falken Wildpeak 2.9 tires. Electronics are as you expect them all Spektrum branded, and thankfully the 2-speed transmission also made its way into this recent version.

You know when you watch someone make something easy, they've had years of practice. You sir, make it look easy and each time you paint it comes out looking incredible. Love what you did to this truck through and through. Just awesome! Hope you have a speedy recovery so we can see a running video soon. Love your content as always!
Thanks Niels! Another running video will be made, I hope you caught the first one too. 😃👍🏼👍🏼
@@hemistormrc the scenery in the previous video ... breathtaking. To me it looks like a slice of heaven. The running content, awesome as always. I'm always looking forward to your videos!
Looks great! The truck looked quite plain before. This really added to the overall look without going too far.
Thank you, glad you like how it turned out!
outstanding paint job, very nice, alot of info, thanks!!
A set off those KC rooflights will finishthe look.
Really like what you have done to it 👍👍
Beterschap
Dankjewel! Will definitely add something on the roof. 😃👌🏼
Looking like a true TACO now👍 Great work!
Was just thinking about SCX6 Honcho mods...you read my mind!
I hope they will come in useful!
Wow what a different look. There is no doubt that it is definitely better looking. Cant wait to see what you do with Matt and Josh on the month of mayhem.
Would have loved to take part, but I'm out traveling.
Another sick paint job. You never fail to bring the wow factor
Happy to hear that, Bruce!
The art you make with damn Tamiya paint is nothing short of AMAZING!! You’re a very VERY talented painter/artist!
Awesome video Man !!! Keep em coming!!! Got my honcho ordered , can't wait !!!
Have fun with it! I’m extremely happy with mine. 👍🏼😃
You really enhance that truck it looks fabulous great job!! I always enjoy your paint schemes I wish I could paint that good!!😅
Thanks James! Glad you like it. Practice makes it easier. 😃👍🏼
There is no hope. You'll see me at ALL your videos. Black out on the headlamps was a nice touch. Always a pleasure to watch !!! You accent reminds me of my programming teacher. Always thoroughly impressed by your creativity.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
@@hemistormrc None needed. I thoroughly enjoy what you do !!!
Hello Chris! Awesome... You're verry talented in terms of craftmanship and great taste for design! My painting finishes are mere bungling in comparsion. HATS OFF!!! 👍👍👍😎
Love the gold “mud” splatters. Very appropriate on an off-road truck. 👍
Glad you like them, I think it's nice to tie that wheel face color in somewhere and this seemed appropriate.
Those wheels are sexy in full scale and hobby scale!! They’ll be going on my 1/6 Honcho when they finally hit the shelves. Great video as usual!!
I’m always one that likes to tweak and personalize brand new things when I get them. I do it with nearly everything. Your skill far surpasses my own but I love how you turned this into a Tacoma. Fantastic idea and it turned out GREAT!! My SCX6 won’t be near as nice but it’ll be fun to personalize it.
Keep me posted on what you will come up with, Rich!
@@hemistormrc I’ve got an idea in mind. I’ll def let you know.
@@hemistormrc do you have a place you like to get driver figures?
Knocked it out of the park! Deff. getting the Honcho now over the JEEP. I'm a fan of both IRL and have had both, currently driving a JK. Thanks again for taking us along your painting journey, vary relaxing.
Happy to read that, have fun!
I hope you get better soon. Keep these coming please! Watching you just proves that I suck! You make this look so easy and confidant that the next time you are in the states HOLD A TRAINING CLASS. LOL
Very cool man.
You always make the vehicles look killer.
Awesome work.
Great tips.
That body is lightly painted for sure.... oh well. Your paint amd detail work is top notch.
😎👍👍
In this case I was happy with it still being so translucent! Thank you for the support, Jesse!
I love what you did & know I don’t have the artistic talent let alone the patience to do what you did to make this truck truly stand out! Absolutely amazing!
Nice job customizing that rig Chris! Looks much more unique than stock!
Congrats on the 100k Chris !!! You are a legit You Tube channel now … but we know that should be a million …
Heck ya putting paint on a rc makes It one of a kind🤙
I ordered the proline method wheel faces as well. Glad it looks good with the red body!
They are real nice in person, very rich color.
One thing I did to my SCX6 is to cut the clear stickers on the windows and windshield. It gives it a more realistic look and you can see inside the cab better. I just took a blade and cut around the black trim sticker and peeled off the opaque sticker and left the black trim and windshield sunshade behind..
Nice, Chris. Always enjoy your videos. This old guy learns something every time I watch you paint.
Not sure how you have 100k subs and I'm just seeing your channel for the first time. But glad I found it your skills are 💯🔥 the truck looks amazing...very well done👍👍
Welcome aboard! The algorithm sure is puzzling at times but I'm glad you found the channel. :)
wonderful job thank you very much for sharing
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
Have ordered my Honcho, love your paint work. I'm trying to locate those wheels so I can grab a set.
Top work Chris.
Beatiful SCX6 Honcho, I sent mines to a vinyl shop to get it personalized
Hands down best painter
You always have a nack for making stock graphics a lot better. Fantastic work.
Thank you very much!
That is very trick. The body turned out awesome. I can't wait to get one. Gonna need a driver figure.
Honestly, you're trucks are one of the coolest looking trucks ever!
But can we also get some crawling action; something like West Desert Wheeler?
If you watch my first SCX6 Trail Honcho video, there is plenty of it!
Late to the party... one of the best looking SCX6's out there for sure.
Looks so much better buddy, nice job! 😁👌
Thanks Paul, glad to see you around!
Congratulations! 100k subs! It's about damn time! And as always fantastic paint job!
It feels unreal! Thank you!
Thanks Hemistrom for sharing, you make such great paintjob
Congratulations on 100k subscribers Chris been watching for a long time happy to see you pop back after your hiatus
Maestro. How you do all that masking without any bleeding is beyond me.
Hail to the champ of the nicest new release out there like always 🙏 second i wish you where like my neighbor or something because i would be at your shop every other day with a new body, a box of cold ones, and some cash🤣🤣🤣
Thank you ever so much, Wesley! Happy to read you like how it turned out.
*Cool cars and cool videos. jeep gladiator!!!~~~ You're good at making things! Great work!*
Glad you like them!
It looks FANTASTIC man !!! Awesome work !!!
Great work as usual. I wish I had your artistic abilities.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the truck how it turned out
Looks solid now, nice work Chris, I think some longer links in the rear to stretch the wheelbase a little would be cool.
Nicely done, looks good as always, will you do a running video
Check out the unboxing I did, it has almost 20 minutes of running footage!
Awesome looking truck now, I think the headlight buckets would look good black instead of the chrome.
Axial blew it out of the park but Man bro, you blew it out of this world. Isn’t there an aftermarket dash instrument panel you can add?. I thought I seen one in the websites. 👍
Another success!
What are your experiences with Tamiya black, silver or white as backing colors?
Congratulations on 100k Hemistorm 🚗💨🍻
Time to celebrate, thank you so much!
@@hemistormrc 4sure man! You do a great job showcasing the hobby and customizing incredibly
One word: Brilliant!!!
Firstly Chris, I hope you get to feeling better soon and able to shake that early autumn sinus 💯
What can I say except that I am totally astonished about how much detail that you've added to the looks of this Trail Honcho (assuming this took a few days) with this labor of passion for the Hobby 👍😎👍 AOAH... Just one question on the black backing paint, did you consider the possibility of using some of the gold colors before the black to maybe give it more "shimmer" to the thin orange?
Thank's again for sharing your Amazing Talent's
✌🤠👍 Having Fun Laughing Playing and RCing
🙏 Stay Safe and Play Healthy My Friend 💯🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Brother you are the master.....awesome job
Thank you so much 😀
Hey brother that body looks amazing have a great day or night have fun rcing
I love what you have done with it 😍😍 and think those Proline wheels really set it off.
As always, love the channel and looking forward to the next video. 🤙🏻🤙🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Your art work and finish is at another level hats off to u very talented man love your videos
Magnificent work as always!
Are you gonna still make a video of the shorty jeep ? Very interested on whats the end result,
Yes I will! And I might even do another special project!
Nice job I’m very impressed with your skill set absolutely awesome!..
Cheers Andrew, glad you enjoyed it. :)
😮😮😮😮 Doesn’t get much better than that! Awesome job ! 😁
Awesome video excellent job looks amazing like always some wicked skills like the little details definitely stands out
Nice love it! Great video. I've been wanting to paint my own bodies 🤙
Great content, especially enjoyed the mountains trail - thanks - what tyres did you upgrade the Honcho to (SCX6)
I didn't yet, running the Falkens with some dual stage foams from Proline, they seem a lot better after I changed those out.
Wasuup man ,, i just finished watching all your scx6 videos , and i have a question man,, would you mind building some bed sides for the honcho lol, idk if im the only one thinking like this but personally feel like just adding some bed sides and leave the back open and the cage just the way everything comes , the bed sides would complete the look for the toyota pick up ,
Awesome work, again as always.
WOW!! It's actually like translucent or something. First time I've seen that from a major RC brand. Why do you think Axial did it that way?
Very cool!
Can I know what masking tape you use?
For sure, 3M 50mm wide.
You put the Hemistorm touch. 🎉
Beautiful
nicely done as always
Glad you like it!
Hi Chris, nice job as we know it. I have another question. Whats the songs called? Greeting from Austria, Daniel
Your ability for seeing your ideas beyond the layers of paint and tape is incredible! :D
Edit: Awesome music @ 8:40 . What band is it? :)
Congrats on 100K subs dude! Totally earned. 🥳🥳🥳
🎉 Thank you for the support!
Art work brother
Get better soon brother
Serious skills bro 👍
congrats for the 100k subs !!!
Great job as always!!
I'm still a firm believer in that the best face lift is abuse and rock rash. Looks the most realistic. I set of rims is always a bonus.
Sure thing, but adding some paint and detail before the rock rash is even better.
Have a question from the past on a vehicle, which you are very knowledgeable of that is the axial yeti xl. I am thinking of, off road speed running for 100 mph spot I have upgraded most of the drive line worked on the sloppy steering over the years. I have it sitting on a table in the corner looking for some fun, do you think the chassis is up to the challenge in your experience with the chassis design over the years, also sway bars installed, was going to upgrade the spring steel on the rear to help keep that straight axle planted. Also upper rear links replaced with aluminium and all link mounts changed to cnc stuff lower links are those reinforced plastic from the kit. I was thinking castle mamba monster x with capacitors and 1100kv motor with the right pinion spur gear combo running 8s will it get the yeti xl to 100mph. Or will that rear end keep it on the slower side just reaching out for a thought. Also enjoy the new content stay blessed have a excellent rest of your year someone should speed run the scx6 to 100mph in the off road attempt 😀 Real question is who has the nerve to sacrifice a 1000 bucks for some rc fame. Once again stay blessed hemistorm
Looks amazing, dammit, now I want an scx6😂🤘
Were you gifted the scx6 Hemistorm?
Nothing in life is free.
Looks ace!
Thank you!
What wheels were those again? I thought there was gonna be a link for them?
Happy 100k subs 🎉
Cheers Marc, it is insane!
Please tell me where I can get a set of the Bronx Method rims. PLEASE
So cool. The only problem is, that my stock one, now looks pretty bland 😂💪👍
Love it bro
Happy to read that, Adam!
the scx6 is just been institutionalised ;)
why the heck can`t i buy your stickers on ebay ???
Perhaps I should look into that at some point. Thanks! 😃
You are a badass sir
Thanks Rob!
super boulot 👍🤟
Beautiful...
EYYY ben je nederlander?gave video
Hoi Gino, inderdaad! Oorspronkelijk Nederlander, maar ik woon in Noorwegen.
Amazing
What rims are those
Sick!
Cheers!
You should add an American flag , that would make it look great
Since Toyota is an American brand? 😉😁
I hope you didn’t get too attached to this truck because coming to get it….
Hahaha, see you soon!
