I can't stress enough on the minute I heard van halen play on the radio....1977....on wmms in cleveland....I thought...wow. kiss made a great sound..and ace learned some new riffs...after Matt the cat said it was new from Van Halen and I never looked back.....I miss Ed and what he could have done farther....but I love and respect and enjoy what he gave us
Even with all the replacements this is still hands down the best VH documentary ever produced. The VH camp is insane to block this kind of free promotion. The fan service from this should be applauded. As a long long term VH fan thanks a million :)
I don't know exactly who "VH camp" is, but they certainly suck... Makes me wanna go on a venture, meet Roth, become best friends, and end all this crap... Music should _not_ be _this_ hard limited
Oh...never be another Van Halen, ACDC, Ozzy and on and on and on. The music industry now has nothing to do with art or even musicians. It's all algorithms and formulas run through computers to spit out crap! Rock....may not be dead but it's in critical condition. One thing appreciate about RUclips in the fact that there are a lot of young muscians covering REAL music from when we were kids and keeping it alive. Some talented kids out there. At the same time, it breaks my heart because they'll never get a chance to produce music like up into the early 90s.
@@Sabotage_Labs preach brother, I've been in the music business for almost 30 years and I've recently made the decision to stop touring and just record it home because the majority of the good venues are either closed or they don't want to pay you anymore what you're worth. But you're right Rock is in critical condition but there are a few bands that are carrying the flag high one is Big Wreck fronted by guitar master Ian Thornley, they've been around since about 98 and actually formed in 92. But yeah the business is a mere shell of its former self.
Copyright Automation software is a nightmare ; Mostly YT is fair never seen them hammer on so many points like your video; I've been media crossing mp3 and mp4 material to Instagram for some number of time the problems i ran into were usually always with Vevo videos anything Vevo or Tier contract with YT gets clipped although these days IG seems to have completely removed the copyright filter really nothing trips it anymore probably still Vevo tho probably i don't know though Van Halen rules thanks for the video!
One of my cousins had 1984 on record. She let me listen to it over and over again. I wanted an electric guitar so bad after that. I was 9 years old when the album came out. I begged my parents for 4 more years and they finally agreed to get me lessons. I'm 48 and still play almost everyday.
With as much respect to Alex Van Halen as I can give - and he has earned this respect from countless fans - I think his desire to control the brand here is an opportunity missed. I wish Alex had whole heartedly backed this effort, as it really gives a wonderful, intriguing look into Van Halen history and lore.
So sad- the band collapsed upon itself. I’m really disappointed to hear how Eddie treated people. Michael Anthony and his backing vocals were a gigantic part of the Van Halen sound. Through the years he has always held the high ground and he never speaks unkindly.
@sweetestbluebird look at how people treated Eddie? He was too good for them. Without him, there wouldn’t even have been a Van Halen. He gave them their fame. Rip legend.
This is excellent, there's nothing like reliving the history, we original Van Halen fans got to experience it all in real time as it was actually occurring. Great job!
God! I saw Van Halen live July 4th 1984 while this album was hot and being played all over the radio and MTV. Probably the most intense rock show I've ever seen.
It would be awesome if you went back and made similar documentaries for the first 5 albums and the early days too! Thanks for doing this - this band is criminally under-documented.
Great work man! So honoured to collab with you on such a meaningful & epic project. I itching to watch this the day you first dropped the trailer, but I didn't think I'd be playing on it! 😂 Cheers! 🎸 🤘
Interviewer Chris Gill has confirmed that eddie has told him on a few occasions, and Alex once that the Hot For Teacher intro was all played by alex, with a mix of Simmons electronic drums and the Roto toms used all over that album. as a drummer, you can even hear the stick clicks on the riot-shield material used on the simmons drum pads in those first few seconds. it’s clear to me that Ted remembered recording the lamborghini for Panama, and misremembered it being used for Hot For Teacher. on a lot of accounts, Ted really “wasn’t there” during a lot of the recording of 1984, so I can imagine he could have misremembered easily.
I agree with you. Listen to any 1984 bootleg and Alex's solo at the end of HFT is pretty much just like the recorded into. I have no doubt that Alex likely played that whole thing live. You make a Simmins floor tom sound similar to the bass drums, add in the roto toms with the left hand and its a masterpiece.
@@wflkurt guitar players and non musicians will tell you it’s “impossible” to play because of one misremembered quote… 2 minutes of youtube searching can bring you enough proof that eddie’s model of lamborghini just does not sound like that… so far ted is the only one that “remembers” it like that and every other piece of evidence points otherwise. i’d say it’s busted by now
@@wflkurt also you bring up one of the greatest points regarding the live bootlegs. alex played the intro, albeit a more energetic and shorter version, live along with his “drum solo” which was that pattern repeated for a minute before the simmons drum crescendo. the same exact simmons sound plays from the first second throughout the entire intro. im not sure where people started the “first 5 seconds” thing because it doesnt change… not to mention the same simmons sound being in fills LATER in the song!
Van Halen is my all-time favorite band....I've even sung in a VH tribute, singing Roth and Hagar tunes. The makers of these videos are to be congratulated BIG TIME. I've learned so much I didn't know..... THANK YOU.
Outstanding!!! Thank you for not giving up. It’s sad the record label has not been cooperative. As I have said before, using snippets of the actual songs would only be beneficial to the label, not harmful.
Right on! For me it was more surprising that Al wasn't supported of it but Roth loved it. If Al would have reacted the way Dave did none of this would have been an issue. Thanks for being a subscriber, most people who watch my videos aren't. 🤘🍻
Awesome job by @TheTapesArchive! I was so disappointed when I heard this documentary was taken down. Glad to see you found a way to get around the B.S. and give us Van Halen fans what we've wanted forever!
Just finished the episode. Excellent work. Sorry about the record company issues. You did nothing wrong, you were telling a story (that no one in the business is telling), you are factual and I learned things I didn't know. As hard as it was to lose Eddie, the fans like me are still here and he left us wanting more. We miss him and the band and would love anything extra we can get. We don't want best ofs, we want what sits on shelves collecting dust that we don't have. To hear other songs were recorded for 1984 that are unreleased is awesome and frustrating all at the same time. To re release a new version of 1984 with all the lost tracks would be BIG. I get excited just thinking about that. Hopefully the record company and all those involved finally make that happen. We want THAT. We want THIS too. This documentary told the story and keeps the Van Halen spirit alive. I loved it.
There's an older video of a reporter going into 5150 studio with EVH showing him around. There, EVH showed him walls of tapes that have never been heard. EVH stated they had everything captured digitally on a hard drive which crashed and was unrecoverable but all that music still exists even if it's in uncompleted form. It's now in the hands of Wolfgang and his uncle Alex. What a gift it would be if they someday could digitize it all again and create a documentary type musical album.
I agree. The person's responsible for these types of greedy decisions are blinded by greed. Ed Van Halen was right about the music business being full of greedy jerks.
Hello Tapes Archive! I had the pleasure of watching the first two episodes when they originally dropped, they were excellent. Yet, I must say in all honesty how you have handled this and the way you have crafted this version here to be within your restrictions has brought out a unique, more creative, and just as enjoyable format, that in my opinion actually allows the viewer to focus on your presentation and message far more clearly. Great work, I feel the adversity brought out a deeper creativity here. Pleased to see it.
Thanks for the kind words. I came so close to just saying fudge it and not re-releasing any of it. (It's a lot of work.) But then I see a comment like yours and it makes it all worth it. 🤘🍻
The synth laden opening of 1984 is a joyous proclamation that says “ Im Eddie and I’m giving you the sound of the future, whether you like it or not “ 🎉
Haha the sound of the future "Jump" competed against "Karma Chameleon " in the charts and morphed into "only time will tell if we stand the test of time " lol hahaha
Just incredible. 1984 was my first concert ever at age 18 and I adore every one of the Roth albums. Eddie was a musical genius, not just a guitar virtuoso, so I'm happy he was able to put more of his stamp on this last Roth era album. I have to admit I didn't like the fact my guitar hero was playing keyboards way back when, but I couldn't deny the catchiness of the songs. Great history and lore from a true giant.
As a rabid VH disciple since 1982, I have to say this series (w this particular video), is AWESOME. Really deep stuff that I hadn’t read or heard in 40+ years. Can’t wait for the next one!
This album doesn’t get enough love. It’s referred to as the “keyboard” album but only 3 songs feature the synthesizer. There are tons of great guitar riffs and solos on here!
Hands down the best work that I’ve ever seen presenting my favorite band as a teenager in the 80s to this new generation of music lovers and filling us old timers with “Oh I remember that”, and “No Shit I didn’t know that” very well done sir. The powers that be shouldn’t be fighting you, but hiring you and giving you the freedom to present this bands story (which you’ve done with fairness and imagination). It saddens me that living band members (save Micheal Anthony) and everyone who wants to “Help” the Van Halen brand are doing nothing more then tarnishing the name and music of. They cannot come to terms on doing a memorial concert for Eddie, much less agree on the color of Shieet!!! Thank you for doing what your doing , and I cannot wait to see more. Two thumbs way up on a job well done laddy!!!
Thank you so much for the kind praise. Of course I agree with what you say too. :) Their legacy could be so much more. Sadly it probably won't get the respect it deserves until certain people die or relinquish control.
Thank you for putting this video out. Sorry to hear Alex and Rhino/WB can’t realize that videos like these only HELP to build their audience. 1984 is almost 40 years old! Rick Beato has talked at length about the narrow minded approach of blocking videos by recording companies.
After reading through most but not all of the comments, there is nothing that I can say that others have not already said..... even though this is not official it really is something special because Van Halen as a band, for whatever reason it may be, never cared to release any archived live concert performances from the DLR days 1978-1984.....VH were the most dysfunctional band in history in my book, and somehow despite all the drama they ended up taking over the world.... I have been a fan since 1978 from the first time I heard "Running With the Devil" on WNEW-FM in New York City until the day my time comes..... as a band, Van Halen is a soundtrack of my life....great job on these documentaries.... at this point now that Eddie is no longer with us, I would bet my last dollar that we will never ever see live concert footage of the DLR years.... Unfortunately they never cared about things like that..... I hope I'm wrong
My ultimate decade as a musician towards the last few yrs of the 70's but the 80's was it! Like Eddie my main instrument is lead guitar. But i play k-boards, drums bass guitar n lead n back ground volcals n i am 63. Miss you Eddie n Randy Rhoads.
OUTSTANDING. im really glad this was a long episode. 1984 is one of the best albums of all time and clearly one deserving its own deep dive(r down). You did a fabulous job with it and i learned a ton!!!!
@@TheTapesArchive dude...love your channel and all you do! music love AND documentaries on the subject? dig it. And the fact that you put in all this extra time to edit and deliver the VH doc to we fans is a testimony to your work...its BS that AVH made you do it but a real indication of your character that you did. Thanks buddy
Ahhh takes me back..well done, nothing like walking down memory lane! I graduated high school in 84’ so this band since their inception changed everything In my life and those who I surrounded myself with…everybody wanted to be…VAN fuckin HALEN
this labor of love will see good, seems like Honestly I think AVH is obviously going thru alot right now , I believe something great is going to come forth for your efforts, as a fan I thank you . WB are real barons , I hope one day original version can be seen
This was a really amazing video full of all kinds of tidbits about the band I never knew! One thing that was wild and a bit bizarre was that ‘AI’ of Dave’s voice with a couple of quotes in the video….that was SO spot on it was a bit creepy WOW.
dude you have a lot to be proud of. This is so well done despite the legal limitations. Loving VH forever, I've heard most of these stories before, but this presentation is very watchable and fun 👍
Great stuff my man.I learned alot from this that I didn't already know,so thanks for the interesting facts. I still can't believe Ed left us so soon in this thing we all call life.I feel the worst for his brother Big Al (& obviously Wolfgang) With Ed being the only guitar player that Big Al had literally ever played with & with them being around each other since birth, the loss/ loneliness that Big Al must be suffering from day to day must be simply unbearable mentally/emotionally, not to mention knowing he'll never get another chance to play music again because of his 100% commitment/loyalty to his brother.
As with the first 2 episodes, this was excellent even with the unfortunate censoring. I also listened to the whole back story on the Dave and Dave podcast and I am even more impressed at the way you handled this whole thing. I think Alex just doesn’t get the whole internet thing and is still living in the world of the 20th century. I don’t think he understands how much he is hurting the legacy of the band by squashing fan made labors of love like this and also not putting out any content of his own. Don Henley is doing the same thing. It would be a shame if future generations did not know the majesty of the Mighty Van Halen. In any case, cheers to you for seeing this through. I watch each episode right away in case it gets taken down again.
This is fantastic, and so were the other two. I hope that you are going to make more. Also, it sucks that they wouldn't let you use that footage the way that it was.
Thank you! I'm pretty sure I won't be making any more Van Halen ones after Al's reaction. And tbh with WB/Rhino's reaction I may be done with music docs.
@@TheTapesArchive . Please don't let the bad experience with the VH doc make u not want to do any more videos. These are well liked by us the fans and im sure I speak for alot of folks when I say THANK YOU and please DON'T STOP!!
@@TheTapesArchivewtf would he mind a documentary as long as it’s truthful? Oh wait he might not the actual truth to be told. That’s too bad that he feels that way. Some of the comments are that Alex never liked the fans. I hope that’s not he case.
@@TheTapesArchive Dude! Wtf!? Don't be silly! Fvk VH docs then, but PLEASE PLEASE make more Black Sabbath album docs, please! I’m impressed how you framed and presented this unique and appetizing cornucopia of the biographical material that makes this video one of the best on RUclips. This video is a necessary but rewarding in the history of the band that us “dancing the night away” well beyond “1984!”
Great job man! I know this must have been an immense amount of work, especially working around the restrictions. Just a great watch. The band would have done itself a favor by just letting you use the original music and owning its history.
Right on! To be fair to Roth he was cool with it, and my guess is Anthony would have been cool with it too. Thanks for being a subscriber, most people who watch my videos aren't. 🤘🍻
Dude, I don't get it either. I told them the could own the video if they wanted and played it on VH RUclips channel. It really bummed me out with Al's reaction, I use to think he was the cool one. If it was up to Roth there would have been no headaches. Thanks for being a subscriber, most people who watch my videos aren't. 🤘🍻
Thank you for this. I was never really a Van Halen fan. It wasn’t that I disliked their music, I just never really got into their groove. I was 20 and living in Phoenix when the 1984 album came out. I wasn’t impressed with Jump. It received tremendous airplay to the point that I got tired of hearing it. Then the song I’ll Wait started getting some air play and finally got my attention. In my opinion it was Van Halen’s best work ever. I still believe that today because it is sounds like a well written and executed song by a group that started out as a garage band in Los Angeles. I didn’t know the story behind the song or the album as a whole, so I found this video very interesting.
@@theboofin Yeah, they do. But most of the time we only know a band once they are commercially successful. I can remember VH when they were just a young band playing at local clubs in SoCal. Young Eddie didn’t look old enough to shave.
Very much appreciate the effort put into not just making this series, but in keeping it out there. What a gut punch that one of the people you are paying tribute to is making harder for you to pay that tribute (And for what benefit? At this point, looking back and celebrating with fans is all Alex has left so why have a "Gollum-like" urge to hold it all close and share with no one?) I was fortunate enough to see the first two episodes before the difficulties, but this is just as good and appreciate the extra time and effort involved to go back and work around the restrictions. The band, and some friendships formed around it, were a significantly positive part of my formative years and it is a real treasure to have this dive into the details. Thank you.
Right on! I'm happy I was able to figure a way to get it out and still, fingers crossed, not get sued. Please hit that subscribe button if you haven't already. 🍻🤘
Sammy needs to stfu about anything VH. People don't even play his VH sht these days! If you are out and hear a VH song, you are hearing Dave's stuff. Plain and simple.
So happy you got to put this out!!! Thank you! Great to relive all these things we heard about, and or went through back in the day!!! #VanHalenForever
Alan, great stuff here. Listened to your interview on the Dave and Dave podcast. Wasn't this supposed to be longer ? Grateful what we have though don't get me wrong. All your videos are top notch. I guess you had no trouble from the Sabbath camp ?
I loved this video - sorry you had to cut so much video and audio to re-publish it, but I'm still glad you did. It got the information across all the same.
Best music doc ever!!! I said it my favorite part is where someone finally corrected Sammy that he didn't out sell Dave in Van Halen 😂 I bet he really called ya a liar too 😂
Thank you for your hard work and for keeping the VH legacy alive. Great job editing the video to comply with intellectual property laws. The voiceovers and captioning are great, too. And through your detailed research, I learned something new. May the controversy continue to boost views of this and any more of your VH video releases.
I really enjoyed this deep dive into 1984. It was well done and contained many interesting tidbits I had never heard about. Thanks for the great episode.
Thank you for all your hard work, passion, creating such a great documentary on the making of Van Halen's 1984 LP (Episode 3). Purchased 1984 LP at Tower Records, when it was officially released. Still in my vinyl collection. Great final chapter with Diamond Dave. Always would crank up the track, "Drop Dead Legs." That solo is freakin' epic. Many other timeless gems on 1984. Cheers for the memories.
Nah ......AI Roth isn't as FUNNY as REAL ROTH......lol ....If the REAL DLR plugged into AI Roth & did his shtick the BLOODY COMPUTER would BLOW UP 🤖🤖🤖💥💥💥🤣😂🤣.....'BORING BOG-BRAINED BOX of BINARY BITS'......lol
There is no "cease and desist" BS. It's just RUclips would either have the video blocked, taken down, or demonetized - nothing more. And if a RUclips channel receives 3 video takedowns in 90 days - they LOSE their channel forever. And that's how it works.
A fan that read Valerie's book said she's the one that bought the house where the 5150 studio was made from a racquetball court . Ed (I'm guessing) was still under the original ripoff first contract with Warner Bros. Because of this , his studio was built with used equipment , some from Sunset Studio , because equipment was getting replaced . Ed had to do it on the cheap because of budget issues . In Hagar's propaganda book , he bitched about the ancient studio equipment for no apparent reason. Further proof he used his book as a smear campaign against the Halen Bros . The book was supposed to be about HIM . From what I've read over and over is Ed and Donn made demos with Ed playing all the instruments for 1984 . That's when Ed pretty much became leader of the band . I like the Michael McDonald story . I loved the interview I read in a guitar magazine where Ed told the funny story how Donn and Ed kept the masters from Teddy Templeman until they were done with the songs . To me it's proof that all Teddy Templeman did was approve of the finished tapes .
That's interesting....Didn't Sammy know about the economic situation ? ...So he criticized the equipment in his book without going into the CONTEXT of Ed's economic situation ? ...Hmmm 🤔....From what I heard despite the old equipment DONN LANDEE did an AMAZING job re-wiring the whole studio so it worked a treat despite the limited budget......When Ed first built 5150 in interviews with Steven Rosen he said he did it for the whole VH production family but Dave & Ted Templeman didn't see it that way because it meant they didn't have so much control over ED as a creative force like they did at Sunset Sound...Ed could record any time he wanted whenever ideas came to him & engineer Donn would be there for him to strike when the iron was hot....To be honest I believe that was the way it SHOULD have been because ED was the main creative force (writing the music) & he needed to be given all the latitude he required...... Sammy wanted to believe he was 'the leader' (as Dave did) but clearly he WASN'T the 'leader' of the band....... ED was the CREATIVE DRIVING FORCE whether during the DLR period or the Hagar period.
@@walterevans2118 I'm no expert on the equipment . To me it looks like equipment . What I like is it looks homemade . Some of the shelving of the professional equipment is just plywood . It was done on a budget and looked cool to me .
@@akfreed6949 Well ED was always doing things on a lower budget when one thinks about it....Whether with building & modifying his own homemade assembled guitars or tinkering around with his amplifiers by connecting them to a light dimming variac. ...He was such an INVENTOR he could take stuff on a lower budget (whether a guitar or a whole recording studio) & with Donn Landee's help use it to come up with better material than with more expensive equipment.
@@akfreed6949 And funny enough ALEX was like this too...Very inventive on a limited budget.. In a recent unearthed Jas Obrecht taped interview with Ed in 1980 he was talking about how his brother would assemble all his own drumkits , buying the shells & making them work to his custom individual requirements.
I've seen the first 2 part of this documentary with the original Van Halen songs, but the point is the story and the information you share with us so I love it even without the Van Halen Music. Thanks and also congrats to Tomshreds for this great Work the feel is here and the mood is perfect! Waiting for the next one
@@TheTapesArchive hey man, I only just now heard your last interview on the Unchained podcast. Really hate to hear you went through that all nonsense. Jeeeezus. But God bless Diamond Dave! I did happen to notice he was hosting them but didn't know the whole story. Ya know, if you're not making a dime off of these videos, all that that means is WB, Alex, and whoever else has a stake is getting FREE PROMOTION for the back catalog with zero investment. To me, that sounds like a bargain. ??? Again, thanks so much for going to the trouble. I've been a fan since I was 11 back in 1984 and these videos are an absolute thrill to behold!
Great film doc!!! A comment about VH a younger audience might not know: in the DLR's years, you never knew what Ed's guitar was going to sound like in every new record. You only got a glimpse at Dave's hilarious radio interviews promoting the records. Every serious guitarist was in expectation of "the sound!" 1984 is not my favorite VH record, but it was the most surprising. The years, and it's success proved Ed was right. It brought tons of new fans, and became more mainstream without covering old popular songs .... Great video. Great record. I especially liked the painting of the angel with tears .... Great artwork. Thanks for posting and making this video. It honors a great band, and a great man.
I had never thought about an electronic kit for the intro to Hot For Teacher, but it makes perfect sense. Two other 80's songs, Genesis Home By The Sea and Saga Wind Him Up use Simmons drums. Listening to those songs and the drum sounds, I can totally believe it's a Simmons kit played with sticks in that intro part. Sneaky...
That McDonald thing happens in Nashville too;Gotta make sure to copyright&protect ALL your original compositions.People have been known to sing their songs to a record exec, the artist is rejected, but the exec totally remembers the song and has a staff writer rewrite that very same tune!only with different lyrics and a couple of note changes, and two weeks later it's on the radio!!😳
Thank-you! Another great addition to the already fantastic 1984 Documentary! This truly represented a great time for the band, and having witnessed the tour, it was absolutely their best, but you could see cracks forming, as each member had their own part of the stage? and it was clearly the Diamond David Lee Roth &Van Halen show! Still it was still an excellent show! Still have my T-shirt from the merch booth, but only have it hanging up, as its no longer wearable! Anyways thanks again and looking forward to the next post!❤🎸😎🤘
I always look beyond the conflict and drama in VH. I always focus on the fact that those guys are just astounding musicians. I wish I had an ounce of the musical talent Ed and Al have.
Amazing video. I saw the entire video even I dont speak english at all. The best video of the 1984 album. Nice job!!! I would like to see you make a video like this about another album from van halen like Van Halen I or 5150
Excellent stuff. Thanks for all your research. The very first clip from 0:07 of this part was shot in Amsterdam. Dave was randomly asking people on the street Do you know Van Halen? Lot of people didn't recognize them, because Van Halen was not very well known to a lot people in the Netherlands
Love how you threw in the SCTV skit with Rick Moranis playing Michael McDonald when McDonald was recording background vocals on Christopher Cross' song "Ride like the Wind".
Ditto. Brilliant SCTV sketch poking friendly fun at Michael's prevalence (session whore) in that singer/songwriter era. Moranis nails it (all those Gerry Todd/Burt Monroe skits.) There should have been more!

I wish Alex had whole heartedly backed this effort, as it really gives a wonderful, intriguing look into Van Halen history and lore.

VH was my favorite band. Not impressed any more after the CENSORSHIP
So sad- the band collapsed upon itself. I’m really disappointed to hear how Eddie treated people. Michael Anthony and his backing vocals were a gigantic part of the Van Halen sound. Through the years he has always held the high ground and he never speaks unkindly.
Michael Anthony was the only member of VH with any class or integrity
@sweetestbluebird look at how people treated Eddie? He was too good for them. Without him, there wouldn’t even have been a Van Halen. He gave them their fame. Rip legend.

Today is July 30
The Hot for Teacher drum intro is definitely the Simmons - you can hear the sticks clicking on the hard surface.
Agreed
The Lambo story sure is a lot more rock & roll. Now that I have heard different, I'm kinda bummed. It kicks ass either way.
The production value on these docs is outstanding. No small feat. Thanks for your meticulous work.

The guitar on both tracks are amazing. Love I’ll wait as well
One of my all-time favorite albums. I remember buying the ‘1984’ album at Tower Records in late January 1984. I was 17 at the time.

The keyboards only accentuate the album. They fit in perfectly.
On what planet does this album not get enough love? Massively popular for nearly 40 years.
I would have thought that most people think it's the best album.
this album got all the love in the world. I remember going around feeling obligated to tell people, I remember when...
A lot of people can’t stand “Jump” but I love it. And “I’ll Wait” is a cool, moody mid-tempo track cowritten by the great Michael McDonald.

Their legacy could be so much more. Sadly it probably won't get the respect it deserves until certain people die or relinquish control.
Van Hagar sucked and the cover for 1984 was stupid.

My two cents...Our grandkids will get to see all the VH media the fans wants to see/hear now. But we will all be dead.
Pffttttt. CSN foibles put VH's issues to shame. The internal frictions in the Stones, too. VH are small-fry in comparison to those bands' fighting.

@@theboofin Yeah, they do. But most of the time we only know a band once they are commercially successful. I can remember VH when they were just a young band playing at local clubs in SoCal. Young Eddie didn’t look old enough to shave.

What a gut punch that one of the people you are paying tribute to is making harder for you to pay that tribute (And for what benefit?
People who grow up poor & then come into some money later seem to remain frugal in business and certain aspects of their personal life.
*I never imagined such drama behind one of the greatest albums of all time. Thanks for the documentary, great work!*
Right on! Please hit that subscribe button if you haven't already. 🍻🤘
Bands are all hot beds for drama 😆
Beautiful avatar
Thank you for posting this great video! Brought back some great memories. R.I.P to King Edward.
WB and Rhino music really got their point across. I have no idea what's being played while it's blurred out.
AWESOME VIDEO. AWESOME ALBUM. I SAW THAT TOUR.🎸I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL IN THAT YEAR. AWESOME YEAR.💜
I've seen the first 2 part of this documentary with the original Van Halen songs, but the point is the story and the information you share with us so I love it even without the Van Halen Music.
Thanks and also congrats to Tomshreds for this great Work the feel is here and the mood is perfect!
Waiting for the next one
It's coming soon!!
God I love Van Halen. Thank you so much for making these amazing docs. I will no doubt play them over and over the way I did your Sabbath videos!
Right on! I try to make them so you can see/hear something with each viewing.
@@NathanWard777 Right on brother!
Sneaky...
I grew up on the song . Still love it. Although many hate it because of the keyboards. It's van Halens "Shake it off".
Brilliant work, you’ve uncovered so many items even a die hard fan didn’t know.
Thanks! The next episode is about the 1984 tour. 🤘
I always look beyond the conflict and drama in VH. I always focus on the fact that those guys are just astounding musicians. I wish I had an ounce of the musical talent Ed and Al have.
I really enjoy your VH docs. Thanks for all the work you put into them!
Glad you like them!
Best documentaries ever from VH. But were is EP 2?
Thank you for crediting the music for your video! A lot of people don’t and it’s frustrating.
Love how you threw in the SCTV skit with Rick Moranis playing Michael McDonald when McDonald was recording background vocals on Christopher Cross' song "Ride like the Wind".
Haha good catch!
Ditto. Brilliant SCTV sketch poking friendly fun at Michael's prevalence (session whore) in that singer/songwriter era. Moranis nails it (all those Gerry Todd/Burt Monroe skits.) There should have been more!
