Nice you emphasized the fumes! Your Safety First! attitude is kind of rare. Good shaping, but there should be zero gap or ditching between the staves. That's silly cartoony. Cooper's built these to be watertight and durable. The staves were shaped to be tight and smooth at the joints.
When I was in school, one of my classmates in shop class had his long hair get caught in a drill. I made sure to tie my mullet back out of the way after seeing him get smacked in the head with the drill.
