That bear is Smokey the bear, an American icon , and he’s wearing a forest rangers hat, also known as a campaign hat. He is the mascot/logo of the US Forest Service. I like your videos my friend
Smiths Everest Expedition and Smiths Military are two modern reissues of watches made in the fifties/sixties by the original brand. Yes I know ordering is not easy but they're both good field watches. The Military was issued to British Forces and the Expedition is a nod to a watch used by the successful Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition (Vivian Fuchs/Edmund Hillary).
Very good video, thank you! I am wearing a Vaer A5 as my everyday watch . I love it. And the Hamilton Murph 38mm is in my shortlist. The Omega Railmaster is kept safe for special ocasions. My priority when buying a watch is craftmanship and legilibilty. No inner hands, no additional numbers, no chronograph, just tell me the time!
Lots of good choices here! For me, affordable basic quartz field watches is where its at. They can go anywhere and take a beating without breaking the bank when buying, servicing or replacing them. I would be a bit reprehensive to truly subject a mechanical to abuse as they feel more like art and craftmanship than a true tool. At least for me. I have no problem subjecting a quartz watch to abuse. Like say a Bertucci or Casio. Have a great weekend man!
SWC also regulate their Sellita movements to pretty much chronometer spec. My bunker came with a card for five positions at -2, -3, -4, +3, -2 seconds. At 500 bucks I'll take that over a COSC cert at +1000 dollars
Hi everyone! This was indeed a great list but, for those wanting something truly different, the Zodiac Olympos Military Field is a spectacular option! I own the Worn & Wound Edition and it is simply fenomenal. It never makes it to these kind of lists.. but trust me; that watch would likely blow all of them out of the water. It is that good. Plus it is has an iconic shape design…
I just looked up the Zodiac Olympic Military Field after seeing your comment. It's a fantastic looking watch with a very unique case shape and the crown at 2 o'clock. It's a stunner, good shout my friend 👍
I've ordered a new mechanical field watch, the one I'm wearing now though, is the Lorus Lumibrite Field. The provided single pass fabric strap frayed pretty quick, the watch itself, no complaints.
Nice selection! 👍🏼 I’m seeking a field watch that is tooly but doesn’t bore me too, if that makes sense. You peaked my interest in some I’ve never looked at previously. Lorier is doing a tool/field type watch called The Rambler that caught my eye too.
Something not on your list that I am liking the look and convenience of is the Timex Expedition North Field Post Solar watches, for around £150 it seems pretty nifty. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to your channel x
Glad you mentioned Boldr as they get ignorant too often. Another microbrand worth a look is Farer. Smith’s (now sold via Timefactors) have to be featured too.
Great field watch picks. My favorite there is the Studio Underdog which it I bits the more expensive e of them all (not counting CW). Other field watches to consider, and I think better than Studio underdog's would be Baltic and Yema's new field watches
I Love my Kuoe, even with quite a large wrist i favour smaller watches. It's barely left my wrist in two or three years, excellent service from the Kuoe people too.
Fatastic list and really enjoyed it. However there is one that is not on the list, the new Clemence Munro. It is stunning and I cant wait for mine to arrive. Have a look 😊
Great video, thanks! The Undone looks like an IWC Mark XV homage, dial wise. That's not to say it isn't great, it is, just worth noting for anyone considering it.
Timex Expedition. $50, quartz, indigo, and frankly super durable and reliable. Paying $400 for a mechanical 'field' watch is a fashion statement, not a statement of practicality or durability. Not hating, just saying the most pure field watch is the one you don't mind wearing out in the garden, working on your car, hiking/camping/fishing, etc.
I’m always surprised that I don’t usually see Bertucci field watches. They’re great spec and very affordable. Titanium field with sapphire sub $300. You can’t beat it.
Hey Kieron, new subscriber here. I really enjoy the layout, quality, and presentation you put forth in your content. Of course, it’s been done before, but I’d like to see a video done by you of your top moon phase watches. Cheers
FYI the Baltany. Same case as my Steeldive. Mine was £90. That's a big premium for a re-done dial and a sub-seconds movement and being less German. Other than that, a good list. Love Vario. The coolest watches on earth.
Just subscribed! Been working my way through your recent videos, sometimes the algorithm does get it right! Got a Seiko SRPJ85 recently which I both love and would recommend (so much the better if you can find a discount). Sort-of aside: I think Kuoe make some of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen...
@@TopTierTicker so last year I got the opportunity to handle a bunch of Vaer watches at the NYC windup watch show. Whenever I go to these shows I always find watches I’ve seen online, then in person I’m underwhelmed, and also watches where I’m really impressed……with Vaer I was very surprised how good they looked and felt in person. I try not to buy watches that often since I have other more important things to spend money on, but for my next affordable watch there is a very good chance it will be a Vaer
Just copped a 36mm Militado D12 with cathedral hands, sterile dial, a quartz movement and sapphire crystal for just under $34 converted. Maybe you can find it on AE, got mine through one of the major online markets here in ASEAN. Was originally looking to buy a solar Timex Expedition North, but went into this Chinese watch rabbit hole: RUclips, Reddit, Google Images... this channel included. I decided to bite the bullet after all the good reviews considering the price was a little less than 1/3rd of the Timex. This looks better made than the Timex watches I tried on (3 Expedition Norths, 2 Expedition Scouts), and I wouldn't have been surprised if someone said the cases and dials were made by the same factory as Hamilton and Oris. The genuine leather strap is meh, but that's easily remedied. At least it smells nice, haha.
Hi Kieron! I would add a couple of Citizen models mainly with Eco-Drive: Chandler series, Garrison (especially BM8560-53E on bracelet), models like BM8595 or Avion Super Titanium (I think it's more of a flieger type). In general - maybe they have basic citizen's solar mechanisms, but in general they are quite solid and inexpensive watches.
The perfect size for a field watch is 36mm not 38mm. A field watch is designed to be slim and small to slip under the cuff of a field jacket and field shirt easily. The midsize for the British Dirty Dozen is 36mm. 38mm is the biggest size a field watch should be be. And of course, one of the most iconic field watch - Rolex Explorer is 36mm.
When you can get a Swiss Made Steinhart Ocean One GMT2 with a ceramic bezel and Sellita SW330-2 Elaboré movement, waterproof to 30ATM at 680€, 1K for a field watch is insane.
How does the Seiko Alpinist (or Laurel Alpinist) not make this list?!?! One of the best and most iconic field watches. Also, the Timex expedition north titanium get my honorable mention.
Field watch means they are shock resistant? For example i like motorcicle. But i don't want to damage the watch with the vibrations. Do you know any budget automatic watch like that?
Would you happen to know any authorized AD's that might be able to ship the Seiko SBSC009 to the U.S. as I have noticed it is only available in Japan? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Oh, c'mon: IT'S SMOKEY THE BEAR! :) True story: US Forest Service firefighters found an abandoned bear cub up a tree after a forest fire and he became the service's mascot. His tagline in all the public service announcements was "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!" -- and that's why the words ONLY YOU are featured on the watch dial. His hat is a USFS ranger's hat.
I've reviewed one recently. It was decent enough for the money... It was close to featuring but because I'd already reviewed it recently I went with others :)
All great choices…especially the CW (the Cranwell version is even nicer imho). But not the H Khaki; soooo yawn-inducingly boring even Sir John Major won’t wear one. 😂
I don’t think some of these watches should or are classed as field watches. Once a triangle is used at 12 o’clock the watch becomes a Pilots watch. CWC, Undone and Christopher Ward are more Pilot watches than Field watches.
Title is messed up Should read; “best AFFORDABLE field watches for collectors” The word affordable is an adjective and connected to things and not people. How can human beings be “affordable” ?! For example, an affordable purchase or affordable housing (housing that is not too expensive for people of limited means) Your knowledge of watches is on par with your lack of understanding of the English language.
That bear is Smokey the bear, an American icon , and he’s wearing a forest rangers hat, also known as a campaign hat. He is the mascot/logo of the US Forest Service. I like your videos my friend
Amazing!!! That makes it so much cooler. Thanks for sharing the knowledge 🙏
Damn Right he is
Yes unauthorized reproduction of Smokey’s likeness is a felony. I collect Smokey memorabilia and this watch is sold out unfortunately
it's not a cowboy hat either, damn brits
We would watch his ads in school. “Only you can prevent forest fires.”
The Boderry Voyager is a great option under $100 it's automatic, has a sapphire crystal and a titanium case.
Love boderry they make some real quality watches for the price
Smiths Everest Expedition and Smiths Military are two modern reissues of watches made in the fifties/sixties by the original brand. Yes I know ordering is not easy but they're both good field watches. The Military was issued to British Forces and the Expedition is a nod to a watch used by the successful Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition (Vivian Fuchs/Edmund Hillary).
The bear is American Icon Smokey the Bear. He was an old character to teach kids how to prevent forest fires.
My late brother had the cwc, I would like to add one to the collection for that reason. Expensive for a quartz but very cool.
Thank you for your suggestions. Another good pick comes from a small german manufacturer, the CIRCULA ProTrail.
Dryden Heartlander. When I reviewed it I described it as the only watch you ever need.
No such list can be complete without mention of the Citizen Promaster Tough 'Ray Mears'. A full specification list and great looks to boot. 🥊
👍👍 It's ignored too often.
Great list!
I would maybe add Praesidus, a US company which only makes vintage military inspired watches, many of them (of course) field watches.

Great video, TTT! This is where I first heard of Vaer, and happily bought their 40mm S5 field watch. Love it so far.
Good video. I would have also mentioned the Hamilton Pilot Pioneer 🤩 and the Serica 6190
The serica is lovely!
bear in a cowboy hat hehe, that's definitely not a cowboy hat
The Berny T2566 is also a great option, for around $60 you get a full titanium bracelet and case, a sapphire crystal and a mecha quartz movement.
just got mine with the cream dial and loving every bit about it :)
Islander Mitchel is also a budget friendly field watch.
Nice selection! 👍🏼 I’m seeking a field watch that is tooly but doesn’t bore me too, if that makes sense. You peaked my interest in some I’ve never looked at previously.

They were unfortunately no. 21 on the list. They missed out to the Bulova hack! Absolutely fantastic field watches though
I’m currently wearing my Seiko 5 field watch that’s doubled in price. It’s my beater watch and I enjoy it

The CW 39mm Sealander in black is my choice. Great video!
Enjoyed your picks! I have the Timex and love its functionality and price. Now I want the Smoky Bear watch 😊❤
Nice choice! I love the smokey bear affiliation (now that I know exactly what it is 🤣)
Affordable, good looking, quartz field watches make me excited
Vaer does one that looks saucyyyyy for $179... Check it out

Good suggestions! Jason (the watch guy) loves his Citizen pilot watch too. Never tried one personally but I will at some point
How bout glycine? Is it any good? Or is it more to pilot watch instead of field?
Great. Looking for good quality clean design. With great fit and specs.

Best field watch is the F91 Casio 👌
always loved fields.
the 'zero bullshit' style of watches.
heLLyeah.
Absolute best field watch is Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm, IMO...
Is enemal dial a reference to the Pulp Fiction butt watch
you forgot one of the best : serica 4512

Your knowledge of watches is on par with your lack of understanding of the English language.
You did not include Bertucci. This list is incomplete and incorrect in my view. Try to stay away from the affiliate links and free watches.
Can you acknowledge the coment explaining the bear with the hat please, making up one's own explanation of something doesn't explain the actual facts.
Christopher Ward’s name and their insignia sound and look like it is a Walmart house brand
A waiting list for a micro Brand???? Seriouly !!!!! And AT 800 dollars....?!?!? I'll pass, straight to baltany, best ones, 'no waiting list...suckers.
1400$ "Affordable"
Affordability is subjective. Also, there's watches in this video to fit every budget. Plenty of watches here for a super tight budget.
