    For someone that has composted all my houshold biodegradables for 20 years this process seems like a bit more work than is actually necessary. But the steps in the video will absolutely work. However if you're constantly compositing on a weekly basis there really should not be a need for the constant steps of the bucket and screening's unless you somehow need the final product asap or you live in an apt. Otherwise everything will still just break down over time with oxygen and moisture sitting on the ground.

    Hi Sir!
    I fertilize my kitchen waste compost with a matka and bucket method.
    I have a matka with a hole beneath it. It's covered like an ordinary drainage hole. A bucket is kept under it for extra water to pass under it. I put my everyday kitchen waste into the matka with some paper or leaves to maintain the carbon - nitrogen ratio so that it dosent become very strong and smelly. I also ensure my waste are in small peices and with varieties for better nutrition and to decompose quickly.
    I mix my compost almost daily with a big stick.
    The extra water collected in the bucket is re entered into the matka so those essential salts are put back.

    • @ThePinkBinks
      @ThePinkBinks 3 года назад +3

      Deidra Dahl Sounds good! 😊 That's what I was going to do but I have old injuries that make that difficult and this bucket method can be set up vertically to save space too. It'd be great to keep my indoor grow and outdoor grow compost separate too.
      I think I'll do it your way when I have to do the annual cuttings of border hedges etc. If I can get a pile underneath my secluded tree that creates some good heat I think I can add a crop of mushrooms. 🙂

      @@ThePinkBinks Good thought, I will adopt the bucket system, for indoors as well. Regards

    • @ThePinkBinks
      @ThePinkBinks 3 года назад +1

      Deidra Dahl You might not need a bucket come to think of it. A sturdy plastic bag that lets some light in with a bit left empty for gas build up, then burp the bags occasionally. Then instead of flipping the bucket you could just shake the bag.
      Hmm... Might have to try that and see if it works. I've got plenty of transparent stackable boxes I could add a tiny vent to. (Just a small hole with some man made fabric (like toy stuffing?) stuffed in it to keep the smell in but let the gas out.)
      Just add a little good compost or a squirt of soil friendly bacteria...
      Hey! No more smelly kitchen bin! Yay! 😃 Bonus! 😆
      Heheh. You've really set me off. Thanks! 😊 Have fun. x

    Nice vlog post. Should my compost bin always be covered while placed outside in the sunlight? Should there be holes in my plastic container as some gardening vlogs instruct? Should the food waste and other organic material in the bin mixed like blender-style?

    • @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan
      @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan  4 года назад +6

      In that process you have to keep always covered in full Sunlight.
      If you are getting enough sunlight and put enough brown leaves there is no need of hole. Once you do it for 3-4 times you will understand the ratio of green and brown to maintain humidity. No need to mix, just rotate the bin once in 15 days

    I'll try this composting method, then I'll give feedback. 15days seems pretty quick...I guess that's because you're using some compost from a previously made batch as well. I use a worm bin. I have literally millions of worms. Vermicompost is made very quickly. I would guess there is a much larger population of micro-organisms formed this way, which would benefit soil health.

    • @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan
      @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan  4 года назад +11

      This is also an aerobic process. The lid isn't air tight. This process is japanese method of creating compost. This works best during summer. The excess water will eventually evaporated. And you also have to find the ratio of greens and dried leaves to balance humidity. It is like cooking biryiani.

      This process is for summer time. All the excess water will be evaporated and you have to find correct ratio between green and dry leaves. The dry leaves will be sufficient for excessive moisture

    Omg, thank you for sharing this! I used dried leaves to make compost and until now they are not decomposed because I didn't shred them. :(

    If it is fully covered and there is no hole then how will the process takes air ?
    What should be kept in mind as i m from rajasthan and it is too hot now , and the place where i put the bin gets direct sun for 6 hours ?

    • @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan
      @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan  4 года назад +5

      There will be some air , don't worry. We are just covering the pot not air tighten it . You can keep in full sun , but once in 10 days add little bit of water, but not much

    • @PS-yy8hw
      @PS-yy8hw 4 года назад +5

      Actually the compost needs to be turned daily for air circulation or worms will start coming and it wil smell horrible , which is nt a good sign. When you turn it you will see the smell goes and worms to ... I made it once so I know.

    why does my tomato plant die after one batch of tomatoes

    • @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan
      @BonsaiTricksAndaLotMore_ayan  4 года назад +7

      Tomatoes are generally one year living plants. They gives fruits for 3-4 months

    • @jennymullins593

      she wants to know why it dies after one batch, not one season.

    • @jonmacdonald5345
      @jonmacdonald5345 4 года назад +13

      Because Tomatoes fall in the order of Perennial which means it's programmed by nature to die off after it's season is over, the fruits of tomatoes contain seed unharvested fruit goes to ground with seed continuing the process

    • @altair458
      @altair458 4 года назад +23

      It’s because the type of tomato plant that you are planting is “determinant” it will produce all its fruit at one time and then it’s done. If you plant an “indeterminate” variety it will continue to produce fruit until frost kills it.

    • @rdreynoldsbanana
      @rdreynoldsbanana 4 года назад +3

      Although growing an indeterminate tomato requires more maintenance and training of the plant or it becomes a giant plant mass giving many mini tomatoes.
