Good work man! I managed to negotiate the "dark essentials" package from my dealer on my shadow gray Silverado. I might do the tips some day but the Z71 logos don't look too bad. I'll never understand GM's insistence on chrome.
Same exact truck! Mine came with the black badges, and i am putting on the redline 6.2L, LT, & Silverado. Want a little more red because i have black and red Katzkin leather. I must get those black Z71 badges. Those look sick! Great video man, thanks. Oh, a nice truck, by the way.
Roger Johnson Agreed. Although I see black truck owners do them for a stealth look... Seems like you might as well just debadge the thing and be done, but what do I know 😅
I just got a Dark Ash Trail Boss Duramax and switched out to all black including a black Trail Boss sticker. It’s way better in my opinion. Good idea on powder coating the chrome tips.
I did the same thing but also blacked out the lug nuts on the wheels and the trail boss decal on the bed sides as well. The color on our thick is the north sky blue. With the blue background and the emblems in black they actually look really good. I think with the black it sets it off a little more instead of the chrome ones.
We taped off the inner bowtie (to save the nice pattern from getting lost in spraypaint) and sprayed the chrome with satin black...looks way cleaner now on our white TB LT getting rid of the only 2 spots of chrome on the truck

Awesome. Was hoping to find something like this. I just ordered the black out badges today for my 2020 silverado custom that's summit white with paint match bumpers and I can not stand the chrome badges and gold bowtie on the front.
Great video!!! Just wondering if those are OEM GM badges or aftermarket ones that you put on? Also, I see you’re from Minnesota. I’m from Manitoba Canada and our weather is very similar. Just wondering if the adhesive on those badges survived over the last year through winter and summer? Some of the badges I’ve looked at on Amazon have complaints in the reviews about the adhesive giving up and badges lifting off the body in only a few months. I have a Satin Steel Metallic 2021 Chevy Silverado RST that I’m interested in doing the same thing as you did.
Like your running boards, would happen to know how much each one weighs by any chance? I’m looking at either getting chevys boards or aftermarket. Not really trilled on the idea of adding an extra 100lbs for running boards.
I want to do this mod on my white trailboss. How well do the new badges stick.. I’m concerned they may fall off after a year or so. Especially in Louisiana with 100degree summers!
Sorry if it's been asked already buy can I ask what you paid for the powdercoating on the tips ? I have a black 2022 trail boss with chrome tips and was looking at the black ones online, but there is a powdercoat company near my house that I had considered asking. And if I understood you correctly you said you paid under $200 for this complete chrome delete project ?
That Z71 badge looks good Not sure why they put the Chrome and red on our Z71 Supposedly blacked out 2023 suburban , yes it shiny but black & red would have been better
Love your videos. On the cusp of buying 2021 with the diesel option. Was curious what your thoughts. My reasoning is gas mileage as I will be using this as a daily driver...freeway miles. I’m just worried about the diesel
Haven’t heard any complaints on any of the groups or forums I follow. If you want a full size truck with the best mileage possible. That would be the one to go with. Im sure there will be a few new things to learn owning a diesel, but a duramax should be able to put a ton of efficient miles it.
Na, that doesn’t bug me. Theirs a little bit of chrome still around the bow tie and on the door handle buttons. Plus chrome touching black isn’t as bad as chrome on white imo.
@@juanalemany5427 Thank you so much for letting me know! The vendor stopped selling them. I found another vendor selling the exact same ones and fixed the link. Looks they are cheaper from this guy! Picture is the exact same, so I'd be shocked if they are not the same OEM part.
Looking for the same silverado replacement badges but can't find them with the foam template you had to help with spacing. The ebay link has expired...do you have and maker info because I don't trust myself spacing by hand.
I really need more angles on how you got the ratchet in. Did you remove the plastic step? I'm having a hard time finding the entry point under my truck!
I managed to get it done without removing the plastic side steps, but that does help. There wasn’t much room to ratchet inside the bumper. That’s where the power ratchet came in handy.
@@TruckOwnership101 right on! I was just debating if I wanted to do matte black, gloss black or a combo of both. Are you okay with having badges that are finished differently?
@@sven_the_giant ha, I had that debate a lot during the selection process. In the end I think their is enough matte and gloss black in the truck where you really can’t go wrong. Get what you like/can find and it will look just fine if the Z71 is matte with the rest gloss or whatever you find.
What about a black or carbon fiber hood guard to protect the exposed front hood lip from stone chips? Great job on the rest 👌. The cool white paint really makes the black accents pop. 👍
Your truck looks! Great! A little Jealous of the 6.2 L engine! I clicked your link to the spray wrap, the pages shows price of 11.99 but when I go straight to Amazon it comes up as 69 dollars? Do you know if that includes the clear spray?
I tried and it doesn't do that for me, are you sure you don't have other stuff in your cart? I know they sell them in packs for bigger jobs like wheels, so make sure you don't have that in your cart. They don't actually ship from amazon, so they will tack on shipping even if you have prime. It does not come with the clear spray. There is usually a "frequently bought together" option on that page that will have the clear spray, and a surface cleaning/prep solution.
Did the shop have any warnings against powder coating the chrome. I have the chrome front and rear bumper and grill. Im wondering if I should just get that all powder coated.
rsims7 they did say their was a small chance of it not coming out good. But a thicker metal bumper might not have the same concerns. Plenty of people use the actual vinyl wrap plastic on their bumpers and that turns out pretty nice. Easier to guarantee the color will be exactly what you want as well.
