At times I used to feel embarrassed when people would assume I have a wife and family only to tell them that I have neither. A solitary life means you're walking a spiritual path, whether you realize it or not. We are in very dark times and it's simply not congruent with the traditional wife/kids lifestyle, which requires peace and abundance. Many of us "real ones" sense this on a deeper intuitive level, and we consciously or subconsciously rejected that lifestyle because it's a distraction from our true purpose. "Know thyself."

As anyone aging and not following the so called "traditional" paths (marriage, children, family life, some dedicated career, etc) will discover, everyone has a different life path and sometimes no control over the circumstances that influence our life choices. Everyone does have one important choice, though - how you choose to perceive your life and how adaptable you're willing to be. I think it's so much easier now to be, and live however you want to and be joyful over it. Life does get richer in meaning and acceptance as you age. It's beautiful. Many blessings of love and peace to you.

My parents are 84 .... going on 27. I've been living with them for the past year while I look for a new house and it's almost depressing that they have a more active social life than their children do. Mom and her gal-pals are straight out of "80s for Brady" and keep their weekdays busy with "doing lunch", book club meetings, garden club, movie night and shopping trips in Manhattan. Dad and his little gang of altakockers -- "The dickheads" as Mom calls them -- meet up for bowling, golf, beer busts and trips into NY or Philadelphia for ball games. It's like watching octogenerian frat boys. Mom's bum hip keeps her from being more physically active, but Dad's still in amazing shape. He and I are avid walkers and still regularly shoot hoops in the driveway.
My divorced oldest brother and I are going to buy a house together to ride out the sunset. Dad says he's gonna miss having me around every day, but there's one thing he won't miss -- he falls asleep in his chair, and sometimes it doesn't look like he's breathing, like a corpse sitting there, so I poke him to see if he's still alive... and that quick jolt scares the crap out of him.
Mom and Dad met in 1957 and have been married since 1959. They still cuddle on the couch like teenagers and whisper in each other's ears. Dad still sends her flowers and Mom still gives him backrubs. It's not so adorable though when you walk into the house and see something that sends you googling for "Therapist near me." From that position they were in on the table, they could BOTH see my car pull up in the driveway. They could've at least locked the door. And in the years since they pulled the carpet out and put in wood flooring... you hear EVERYTHING. All night long sometimes. "Silent Generation" my ass...

Stats are roughly: Marriages end in divorce 54% of the time, initiated by women 78% of the time of which if there are kids she gets custody 90%+ of the time and you get relegated to "visitor" of your own children while any Tom, Dick or Harry she decides to see gets to interact with YOUR children anytime they/she want. But you do get to pay exorbitant child support and, if she was not gainfully employed when you met her she often can take you to the cleaners for alimony. Also you usually lose a vast amount of your property but you get to sleep at the local Motel 6. The unjust court system hates men. So, young fella, you don't have it as bad as you might think. And there are not as many good women out there anymore in this modern era due to feminist ideology. Young men are waking up and listening to their predecessors, fortunately.
If you have a job, roof over your head and maintain your finances soundly like it appears you do, you are doing ok. Dating women is fine but marriage is a bad contract.

I see my son 50% of the time, but I can feel how brittle the relationship is with my kids, and how my influence as the Dad is slipping away. I'm a church-going faithful believer, but she cheated and I get to pay child support while the other dude now has more influence on my kids, and in a negative way. My daughter and ex rejected their faith, so now my daughter has a much more bleak outlook on life and her beliefs are almost polar opposite of mine. It really sucks to see your family slip away from you due to your ex's infidelity and the biased court system.

Nature did not intend for men to bring children into this world and have them stolen from them. Parental alienation syndrome is a very real thing. We're living in the most f'd up times in our nation's history in almost all demographics and categories. I don't hate women but they often get drunk on power that the courts give them. Although they get almost everything in a divorce they will still complain about being a "single mother raising my kids alone" - which usually is merely voluntary on their part. At 53, I only have 2 friends and those I've had all the way since high school. I've not made any new true friends since I was about 18. Everyone is busy in their own world it seems and more self-absorbed. Things also changed so that people would rather just associate almost exclusively online, which I don't consider real friendship. Then there's the government and political propaganda constantly encouraging us to see everyone else who doesn't agree 100% with approved ideas as the enemy. Reaching out to a friend seems to have also become a sign of weakness or something. Nobody wants to ask for help or be seen as needing a friend to do an activity they would rather not do solo. I guess it's not just me, and our society doesn't understand the value of friendship anymore

Me and my brother built a "back up" home, which is over 2,000 square foot, half is garage. The idea was to always have a place if either of us got married, then divorced. But as women got worse, as I came to enjoy being completely debt free. My desire to marry and have kids lessened with each passing year. I could built a home on my own lot, on family property. But since I am the sole benefactor of my parents home, I just didn't want to crowd the property up too much. Being that I'm still very healthy, decent looking and look 10 years younger than my peers.. And 6'3"... If I get lonely, I will just go on dating apps for a while like I did earlier this year.

You are not as alone as you think. It is becoming more and more common for men and women especially the younger generation to be alone as they are aging. It is not bleak as you say , it is much more common than you think. You just need to find some friends both women and men . Maybe especially male friends to hang out with maybe do sports with so you wont be lonely. Also women friends because as you may not be a future father you may want a companion in old age maybe fall in love and get married sometimes men and women friends turn into more than friends. You should definetely have male friends who like you are alone and understand. It will help you build confidence in yourself , you are a bright and kind and handsome man you should not have any trouble finding friends. You do you bro. Good luck !

JV, I found myself in a similar situation and will share what I know. Any difficult situation in life is made near impossible if you do not like yourself. Alone and holding oneself in contempt is literal hell. When I was in the pit of despair two things happened that allowed me to leave the pit and not stay there permanently. One thing I realized was that I actually like myself. I have always tried and I care about things. It seems you do as well. These qualities are superpowers in a an apathetic world. They also deepen the sting of disappointments. Two...I had to acknowledge that at the worst parts of my depression and sadness...that those experiences I was experiencing may in fact be how I meet my end. I acknowledged the nightmare and it's reality. You have to know where you are if you are going to have any hope of guiding your future. Since you have reached the point of sharing such vulnerable information I believe you need this help. Never do this shit again. Your self esteem and your self worth is too valuable to leave to debate for anyone else. If you are lucky enough to live your imagined happy life and have experienced the pit of despair in my experience I hate to inform you but it becomes a part of you. I know certain types of pain that will always be with me and I try to use it to be a more empathetic person. I was once indisputably a broken man. Loving myself and heeding my opinion over any other person's gave me some power back. Whether other people like you or not is almost irrelevant compared to whether you like yourself. Try not to compare your life to any other person's. I would suggest trying something difficult that you always wanted to do and maybe surround yourself with people who have similar interests and that may lead to acquaintance and perhaps eventual relationship. I wish you well.
