  • Managing Director Dr. Thorge Brünig presents the Technoform project Ain Dubai, which was realized with the Paul Vahle Group. The world's largest observation wheel, twice the size of the London Eye, benefits from customized thermal plastic profiles from Technoform in Lohfelden, Germany.
Dr. Thorge Brünig was the team leader on this project and was therefore involved in the project management to support the Paul Vahle Group.
The Paul Vahle Group was faced with the challenge of ensuring the power supply to the cabins and the lighting for the observation wheel, for which over 15 km of conductor rails had to be laid.
Technoform specializes in the production of tailor-made thermal plastic solutions, and this project presented us with several challenges. Special climatic requirements had to be met, e.g. resistance to moisture, temperature, abrasion and UV radiation. It was also necessary to ensure that the profiles were mechanically sound and visually appealing, as they would be visible the entire time the observation wheel was in motion.
As no standard plastic could meet these requirements, the thermoplastic was specially adapted. Using a special extrusion process, it was possible to extrude this material.
    Dr. Thorge Brünig reports:
"It was impressive for me to work with the Vahle Group and to master such a big challenge together. The isolation route is 15 km long and runs around the observation wheel. It makes me proud that we have contributed to the realization of this major project."
In Lohfelden, customized solutions made of thermal plastics can be individually extruded for customers in various industries. This very specific plastic solution helped the Vahle Group to insulate the power supply and meet all other requirements for this project.
