      Peter , your wonderful coverage of everything and everywhere EXCEPT where science has proven as the origin of man, ensures that the world will continue it's ever stalled knowledge of HIS Story.
      Great scholars such as yourself have are invaluable instruments in distilling insignificant parts of HIS Story like Mansa Musa, the Dogon Tribe, the truth of the Bible's 12 Israelite Tribes (wonder if anyone ever found Dan's offspring scathered in the north, they are rarely discussed in Bible text...🤔)
      Thank You fine sir, you even gave Egypt a moment of in Sun, and skillfully edited the KNOWN facts of their western continental influence. Because anything Darker than Egypt is too Dark for discussion.
      Thank You for your contributions kind sir!!!!!

    Sargon was certainly a badass and deserves his place of honor. However I feel that technically Ebla was the first "empire"
    I mean they controlled several city states outside of their cultural area. It was sort of a missing link between a city state and an empire in the evolution of empire building.

    • @killthecensors58
      @killthecensors58 4 года назад

      @@carlosaugustodinizgarcia3526 I would argue that that is going too far. afawk, Uruk's cultural expansion was not directly controlling these cities. This seems to have been more of a large trading colony thing. So rather than Uruk conquering or annexing Nineveh, they just had trading posts there.
      Ebla on the otherhand, seems to have had direct control over these cities so I would argue that they were the first "empire"
      But of course, we would debate what constitutes an empire until the cows come home. An empire is generally supposed to be a state of several nations and what constitutes a nation in this context?

    The dynasty of Lagash (c. 2500-2270 BC), though omitted from the king list, is well attested through several important monuments and many archaeological finds.
    Although short-lived, one of the first empires known to history was that of Eannatum of Lagash, who annexed practically all of Sumer, including Kish, Uruk, Ur, and Larsa, and reduced to tribute the city-state of Umma, arch-rival of Lagash. In addition, his realm extended to parts of Elam and along the Persian Gulf. He seems to have used terror as a matter of policy.[51] Eannatum's Stele of the Vultures depicts vultures pecking at the severed heads and other body parts of his enemies. His empire collapsed shortly after his death.
    Later, Lugal-Zage-Si, the priest-king of Umma, overthrew the primacy of the Lagash dynasty in the area, then conquered Uruk, making it his capital, and claimed an empire extending from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean. He was the last ethnically Sumerian king before Sargon of Akkad.

    given finds like nevali cori, gobekli tepe and similar findings in the 10-12k bc range, likely this wasn't the first 'emperor', however this wholly depends on how one chooses to define empire and where you start looking.

    This video has been going through my mind for months. I had to come back to it. I am wondering about if he REALLY was the FIRST emperor. I define an emperor as somebody who rules over several kingdoms. Well, maybe they are no longer kingdoms after they become part of an empire, but anyway it is the entity that is created through the process of unifying kingdoms. So I just think Narmer/Menes has an earlier claim to be the first unifier of kingdoms. I am sure you know Narmer, so i wont elaborate. Can you give me some feedback to help me understand why Sargon has the better claim to "First Emperor" status?

    • @HistoryTime
      @HistoryTime  6 лет назад +6

      Well my reasoning boils down to the fact that he was an Akkadian, spoke a different language to and had a different culture to the vast majority of people he ruled over (who were mostly Sumerians- a different ethnicity altogether to Akkadians) Narmer/Menes may have unified the two Egyptian kingdoms, though both of the kingdoms seem to have been pretty similar in terms of culture and language- almost like two different Sumerian city states- though the very different, more favourable landscape they inhabited in Egypt allowed larger states to form unlike the relatively small Sumerian city-states.
      However since I made this video I have increasingly questioned by own reasoning in arguing that Sargon was the first emperor (hence the question mark in the title). Further research has revealed a number of other 'conquerers' and empire builders who predated him. Though I might add the mainstream view is generally that Sargon was one of the first if not the first.
      I'll be revisiting the subject in several new videos over the next year or so.
      Thanks for the interest by the way, its great to get educated reasonable feedback on my vids. Thats why I started this channel - to get people talking about history :)

      That is great news. I also like the stone age. It is interesting to see the comparative linguistics, the DNA examination and other lab work, and all the other far out research that is needed to learn about it. It takes some real digging to learn about the stone age. Pun intended. I wonder if you will make videos about the Yamnaya, the Nautifians, the Federmesser,, the Solutrians, the Gravetians, the Erlitou, the Jomon, etc. There are a bunch of groups that videos can be made on these topics.

    • @HistoryTime
      @HistoryTime  6 лет назад +2

      Brandon Redmond awwww dude now you're speaking my language. There are so many incredible cultures in the ancient world. I really do want to try and cover all of them eventually. I'll at least be doing a series each on the Hittites, Assyrians, Phoenicians and Carthaginians. Some of me faves. And a whole bunch more no doubt. The very first ancient explorers of antiquity are what've been interesting me the most recently. For example Pytheas of Massilia who became one of the first people from the Greek world to visit not just Britain but also the Arctic, writing a comprehensive account of his journeys (including polar bears) which unfortunately has since been lost to history, leaving mere scant sections of it that were later incorporated by later Greek and Roman historians.

      Nimrod is Sargon.
      Nimrud is a place that was under Sargon's rule.
      During this time period the hebrews were wondering nomad tribes of the Perso-Sümur era.
      Mostly Medens.
      This is when Genesis was written but it was around longer as an oral tradition before the copper age.
      Point is the story of Nimrod is more of a tribal story of King Sargon.
      Not saying what might of happened in the story is true or wrong but the person's name is switched.

    Only 5 minutes? Or was this simply an introduction to a more in depth video? The history of Mesopotamia deserves more detail on Sargon the first. I would also like someone to do a documentary on what the roots of the biblical great flood were. Most likely it came from between 9000 BC to 4000 BC when the ice age ended and the ocean was still rising because of the ice age glaciers melting. The current Persian gulf was once probably fertile dry land and got flooded by rising ocean waters.
