Absolutely love your battle reports but I really want to ask that you fix the audio levels. So many times I struggle to hear what you are saying due to the background music being the more dominant sound. I already struggle to hear people speaking and sometimes I have to watch the same part over to hear what was being discussed.
I was just thinking about bringing this up. Agreed though music level just needs to come down by quite a bit. I’ve stopped watching a few reports just due to audio. (You guys make THE BEST videos just wanna share so you’re aware! 😘☺️)
The person who designed this AoR is the most Sylvaneth designer ever. Ridiculously clunky and convoluted implementation of what is a pretty cool idea in the abstract.
This is what I was concerned about with the new Sylvaneth army. Kurnoths have 15 wounds and a 3+ save, which is good in theory, but there are ways around that. Without any cheap screens or strike+fade, they are very vulnerable. If I'm using Kurnoths for anything other than Strike+Fade, I always run Lady of Vines for her 5+ ward spell. Plus I always run at least 2 units of dryads to screen. There may be a way to play the army to mitigate the weaknesses, but I'll wait for others to figure it out, lol.
Obviously they’re playing models they have. I think the best list is probably 1 drop rev, belth, 6 sword, 3 sword, 6 lancer, and 2x3 healing bugs. Gives you some blobs of 30 wounds so harder to one shot and healing available.
@@theoffbeatgamer8285 It also looks like Jordan got really unlucky (and/or missed the chords he had) when the scythes attacked the Terrorgheist. With 3 units in the same corner as the Ghoul King (bottom left to us), and Belthanos on the battlefield he should have had 4 chords. With the Arch Revenant's command ability, no Unholy Vitality or Mystic Shield, and Chords at 4, those scythes should have dealt an average ~35 points of damage if the ghoul king all out defenced. That's some bad luck to deal 12
Hiya, wanted to say thx to season of war for producing such A class battle reports. Just the best. Loved seeing the new Sylvaneth. How about down the road doing the evergreen hunt against the truggs? 2 awesome thematic/visual builds that are perhaps not the most competitive? Could be a fun and interesting match up. Cheers
Nice battle. Would have thought after round 3 little chance to score, but it was managed. Not bad. The background music is somewhat loud. You might want to make it less prominent
Thanks a lot for your work! Did not quite enjoy seeing a battle of 2k vs 1.2k after just first turn. I think if warhammer had a core strat "fight on death" or the big heros to not be able to split attacks this would have been a better game. It's exiting to see this sylvaneth army style.
In the final Sylvaneth turn, what prevented you from using A Prized Quarry on the unit that killed your general? That would surely have given you both Reprisal and complete the grand strategy instead of having to choose one or the other.
Would have had to do it with the general before the unit killed the general (Belthanos was out of range, it's only 9"). So if that unit was made the quarry, he'd just have run away with that unit and used something else to kill the general instead.
Just starting out with FECs and came cross this but the background music was to much and drowning you out. Don’t know if it got any better as I only lasted about 5 minutes in.
Good work, very lovely armies. The long preamble having to note just how many rules changes have occurred make an aspiring player concerned. Is AoS more or less the same as the other GW offerings regarding rules problems? Worse, maybe?
Definitely not worse, and things are usually corrected more quickly. The first of the issues they mentioned was an error of interpretation, and it was FAQed before the new season was legal (they were playing a preview game). The rules as written apparently never permitted it, but it was arguable due to ambiguity around the wording of the primal dice season mechanic (which implied in different places that it was both part of and not part of the casting roll - the FAQ clarification was that it wasn't). For some reason Season of War went with it even though there seemed to be an expectation it would be nipped in the bud. And in the meantime events will often disallow obviously unintended interactions (for instance Belthanos has a keyword that allows him to be summoned with Alarielle, which is widely believed to be unintended as he costs more than 100pts more than anything else she can summon, and her ability to summon a 250pt unit is baked into her cost). As for the other, AoS has had a repeated issue with keyword interactions not being fully thought-through, which is also common to 40k. The FEC one and the Belthanos one are both examples of this, although the former was not gamebreaking by any means - it made FEC, who have by far the oldest current battletome, a strong army for a month or so, but it was changed more to make the FEC summoning varied again rather than giving them an obvious best choice than because it was a balance issue. AoS had the same season structure as the last edition of 40k, but seasons going forward from this one will be annual rather than six-monthly. So when seasons do produce issues with existing warscrolls, that will only happen once a year. It has balance updates every quarter in the same vein as 40k, but to give an idea of the differences between the systems' relative balance the 40k is 3 pages long for an edition released two months ago, and the AoS one is five pages for a nearly complete edition that's over a year and a half old. Most army FAQs are also shorter (though granted AoS has many fewer units), and with nothing like the sheer density of silly game-impacting typos the 40k Indices are stuffed with. Though this might not be a fully fair comparison as 40k10 gives every indication that it was rushed to completion to meet a deadline, and so has more of these errors than normal.
That was exceptionally detailed and helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that, friend. It makes me feel a lot better about diving in. Loving seeing the way Sylvaneth plays in these reports. @@philipbowles5397
@@uruk_bye1232 Sylvaneth are now my main army, though I don't play as much as I'd like and am still pretty new to them. So I'm no doubt biased, but I regard their battletome as the single best-designed army book in this edition of AoS, and simply a very well-designed army overall. It's now one of the older books, but for about a year has consistently had around a 50% win rate with relatively minor periodic points adjustments and no big balance passes, despite being one of the most popular factions (which tends to depress average win rates at events), and regularly gets podium finishes. This is a testament to an army that is technical enough to really reward players who know its ins and outs, but at the same time one that's still relatively accessible to less experienced players who can perform well with it (hence being popular). That's always a rare and impressive combination, as most technical armies have a higher barrier to entry. It's been able to maintain its win rate over several seasons thanks to well-balanced subfactions, a tendency to be good at scoring battle tactics (if not necessarily primaries), and very few duds among its warscrolls. Most armies in AoS suffer from bad grand strategies and enhancement (warlord trait and artefact) selections that tend to be rather shallow. Sylvaneth are no exception, but even so have several good options in each enhancement category. Above all, I love the hit and run playstyle as I've always liked mobile armies and AoS is light years ahead of old Fantasy in representing its army theme well in game rules - the Sylvaneth play the way Wood Elves wish they did. It's an added bonus that I have a particular interest in British fairy lore, the theme the Sylvaneth (and before them the Wood Elves) primarily riff off.
And again Sylvaneth tricked even experienced players into mistakes. As far as i know, you need lancers as a screening unit because hunters are not good without a wood and not possible to save stack. Anyway a good game.
@@philipbowles5397 That's not really what's being asked. Does the restrictions on what's available to the army of renown not allow the endless spell to be selected?
Not unless it's explicitly disallowed, which isn't suggested in the available reviews I've seen. If the wording matches the armies of renown in Reign of the Brute, the warscroll restriction is worded "every unit in your army must have [keyword]". Spell warscrolls aren't units, so aren't excluded by 'only take X' rules with that wording. A wizard in Trugg's Troggherd, for instance, could have any Gitz (or any generic) endless spells. The universal army of renown rules mean you can't use: Allegiance abilities Grand strategies Battle tactics Core battalions Warscroll battalions Endless spells don't fall into any of those categories. They're purchasable warscrolls that happen to be spells, and any faction restrictions are part of the rules on their warscroll, not allegiance abilities like a spell lore.
Sylvaneth. It's already been spotted that Alarielle needs an FAQ so that she can't summon Belthanos (though obviously not relevant to this battle report). Warcom has apparently mentioned in a comment thread that the planthopper having the same values and degradation for both attacks and damage was a mistake, and a change will be issued. As Belthanos punches a bit above his weight as a melee fighter (essentially obsoleting the Spirit of Durthu in any list that doesn't give it a gladius), it's reasonable to expect that one of those values will be reduced.
Unleash hell on terrorgheist maybe could have done a couple wounds with the few bows that could shoot. Would have let the scythes finish him off the next turn
Would've left me without a cp for all out defense + inspiring presence, and I was prioritizing survival at the time. It was also very abnormal that the Kurnoth weren't able to take the Terrorgheist down in one go, and I failed the roar - wasn't the ideal course of events to say the least 😅
