I have to admit, ever since I heard the first lines and saw the first seconds of this video I have no doubts anymore - Jonathan Larson lives through Lin-Manuel Miranda. They both changed entire generations with their work and this role fits him perfectly. He might not have the strongest and most powerful vocals on Broadway, but it's all about the delivery and you only need to look this man in the eyes and believing comes naturally.
My little sister said something like that once too, and I was like well...😂😂😂. But if you ask me is because he brings anything he’s doing so much authenticity and passion that it just feels like him 🤷🏼♀️
His voice control and beauty isn't the best, but his voice has so much charisma and character and he hits some of those harmonies perfectly! This is the same for Hamilton imo.
He still ain't Jonathan Larson himself--who was an awesome singer. And he ain't Raul Esparza, who was awesome as Jonathan. But the one thing I'll give Lin credit for is that he would be one of the few people who would understand exactly what Jonathan went through, since Lin is a singer-songwriter, like Jonathan was.
RUclips algorithm is a genius for getting me here after seeing that video of Jonathan Larson singing 30/90 and just before the Tick, Tick, Boom movie that Lin directed😍
Lin really is that theatre kid that can't really sing nor dance nor truly act out of his range... But somehow made it big where others failed (Also to his credit he is a great stage and on screen creator)
That's the thing, he's a playwright and songwriter first and a stage performer second. He didn't luck out, he just succeeded with his actual talent and used that to cast himself in these roles. If he was just another theatre kid, he'd not be there. That's not me hating, I think he's an incredible writer.
What's the name of this musical? I love watching Lin in the past. He apparently didn't audition any of the main characters for Hamilton apart from Rénee (Angelica) and I know can see he met Leslie on this and worked with Anthony Ramos on 21 chump street! I'm geeking out now... Lin is a bloody wizard. That is all
Actually, Angelica was supossed to be Karen Olivo, but she had problems with the place and with other musical she will do, so lin start the audition for an angélica, when renee wins
Fully honest I don’t think Lin nor Karen sing very well here. Lin is well. Lin’s Lin. He’s a writer not a singer and that’s not gonna change (the way he performs is still captivating though, like in Hamilton he isn’t a great singer either but I still couldn’t look away) and with Karen she just sounds like she’s yelling a lot, not objectively a bad thing it’s just not my favorite style.
I think he can sing the songs he wrote for himself. He's great in Hamilton and In the heights but I have to admit that he's not great doing other people's stuff
LOLOL, perfect xD No but for real though, the thing is: for me anyway, acting will ALWAYS weigh more heavily on my enjoyment of a performance than singing. That's not to say that I can't appreciate an incredible vocal performance, and yes, if we're talking for a cast recording in specific that might be different, but if I'm actually watching a show, the acting is by far the most important part. I can adore a performance that's so so (or even somewhat weak) vocals if it's an amazing acting performance that really sticks with me (see: Hugh Jackman in Les Miserables, and heck, most of the performances in the Les Mis movie for that matter), but if the vocals are flawless but the acting's not there? I'll appreciate the vocals, sure, but I probably won't feel much of anything. So all of that is a long way of saying: I would absolutely KILL to have seen this production of Tick, Tick...Boom! because Lin's acting resonates with me in a huge way, and I can only imagine, given his emotional connection with the show and Jonathan Larson's work and everything, that he made an INCREDIBLE Jonathan acting-wise. I honestly couldn't think of anyone who'd embody him better than Lin. So that's why I'm kind of "so what?" if his vocals are a little bit off at times. We have the cast recording with Raul for flawless vocals. I'd give just about anything to see Lin act the hell out of this show, and let Karen and Leslie do some of the heavier lifting where the vocals go :)
2:33 Burr finally got to be in the room where it happens but it isn't quite what he expects
Lol that’s so true
Lol
Burr after a lifetime of smiling more and talking less realising that he should have simply talked more

Was fortunate to see this.
Lin playing Jonathan is poetic justice.
"Why is it that Lin-Manuel just plays Lin-Manuel in every musical he's in?" - My sister. Well shes not wrong...
yea your sister has a point its just him not the character
In fairness, *this* character isn't too far off from who Lin-Manuel is.
Because he can do it the best
My little sister said something like that once too, and I was like well...😂😂😂. But if you ask me is because he brings anything he’s doing so much authenticity and passion that it just feels like him 🤷🏼♀️
I wonder, is he gonna play Ed in A CLASS ACT next? Because I'd sure love to see that.
i love lin and karen's chemistry!
Leslie singing Real Life is all ive ever needed in my life
also Lin singing Why
Omg can i just marry that green green dress scene forever thanks
3:01 idk if that part is supposed to be played seriously by Lin but I'm laughing like crazy from it 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂im dying
I don't care what anyone says, Lin's voice will always be one of my favorite sounds in the world.
His voice control and beauty isn't the best, but his voice has so much charisma and character and he hits some of those harmonies perfectly! This is the same for Hamilton imo.

1:11 looks like lin was told to not let anyone know who he's against or who he's for...

RUclips algorithm is a genius for getting me here after seeing that video of Jonathan Larson singing 30/90 and just before the Tick, Tick, Boom movie that Lin directed😍
Karen Olivo and Lin Manuel Miranda have stage presences made for each other

I love Tick, Tick...Boom so much. And the three of them do it so well. This is absolutely amazing.
Watching in 2022, Lin has grown so much and still you see the flame here!
0:33-1:00 Is this literally Mariah in a green dress trying to do her thing all over again with a drunk Alexander?
Unfortunately, YES!!!!
Lin really is that theatre kid that can't really sing nor dance nor truly act out of his range...
But somehow made it big where others failed
(Also to his credit he is a great stage and on screen creator)

I love this more than words can express
3:02 is cracking me the FUCK up man bc you can see Lin-Manuel sorta smile like “shit bro my voice is a lil off but im onstage can’t go back now”
Muchas gracias por hacerla peli, genio.
Where r the full versions of these songs with Lin and Karen and Leslie singing
Plz
Karen olivo in green dress- I have passed away.
God I hope there’s a full recording of Leslie singing real life out there somewhere
Okay, that last scene is hilarious out of context
The fact it says 0:38 was the most replayed shows what everyone´s favorite part is.
you right 🥴🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lin and Karen are the perfect onstage couple then Lin and Vanessa are te best offstage couple!
Would love to see this production💕🙏
If Lin wasn’t such a brilliant writer and creator, they wouldn’t let me no where near a broadway stage 😂
Yo I just realized at the end the last note kinda sounds like the last note played in Benny’s Dispatch...
This is everything!
Y años después dirigió la película de Tick tick... boom! 💥
I want to see the whole thing
Ahhh this is great
What's the name of this musical?
I love watching Lin in the past. He apparently didn't audition any of the main characters for Hamilton apart from Rénee (Angelica) and I know can see he met Leslie on this and worked with Anthony Ramos on 21 chump street! I'm geeking out now... Lin is a bloody wizard. That is all
this musical is called "tick, tick... boom!"
I heard he cast Anthony for Laurens/Philip, THEN cast him in 21 Chump Street. D:
Actually, Angelica was supossed to be Karen Olivo, but she had problems with the place and with other musical she will do, so lin start the audition for an angélica, when renee wins
The green green dress...but it’s blue
The texture of the dress made it look blue one time a had a purple blanket but the texture made it look pink.
Lin Manuel Miranda is a Tenor and Jonathan Larson was a Baritone I think, so hearing Lin trying to sing that low note in Sunday makes me kinda giggle.
So does like anybody have a full recording of this? Asking for a friend ;)
Love!!!
Usnavi and Vanessa
Hamilton and Angelica
watching it now is definitely strange lol amazing
2:32 i understand that reference!
CAN I BE HER (the girl in the green dress)
Marie Soft You mean Karen Olivo? We all can dream...
Marie Soft I too would like to be Karen Olivo
I would love to be Karen! (and not just for this)

00:38
On an island in the middle of a river on a Sunday...
Arron Burr, Sir!
Is it bad that I ship Karen and Lin
Leona Abrera no.. they are literally my otp😂😂
No. I do. But I shouldn't
Uhhhh where can I find a recording of this cast????????????????
Marshall Mabry there isn't one.☹️It's part of a series called Encores that does staged revivals of smaller musicals just for a weekend.
WHAT KIND OF DRESS HAS *20* BUTTONS!?
3:04 reminds me of the last note of blackout in the obc recording😩
0:38
And suddenly I was pregnant
Lin is no Raul Esparza.
wait this is lin-manuel miranda???
Yes
Eheheh....
Why was this on my recommended?
Off because I am obsessed with Hamilton.... and it is all that comes up so... here is Lin... and Leslie...
Ugh I meant ofc
2:50 - that harmony is not working for me
I thought it was supposed to clash. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
Laila Drew it is!
My little Linnamon roll
I'll take Patrick Wilson any day....
😗
I want to that first actor a man
lin would be a great mark in rent
aaron burr, sir
Those harmonies need work...
This man's voice will be the death of us..
1:38 why does he look like a dr-g addict
1:22 is that Leslie Odom Jr? If it is then dang I didn’t know that they knew each other before Hamilton, if it isn’t him then… oops lol
but the green dress is blue
...now that's a shame. Lin-Manuel Miranda is awesome, but he sure isn't Raul Esparza. Lin's teaching me that you do need a strong singer for Jonathan.
z he single ?

lin is a phenomenal writer bit HOLY SHIT he can not sing
Man Karen just sounds like she’s yelling while singing Come to your Senses
This sounds like an amateur/school production, not like the big Broadway names on the cast :(
+lexellcassini Thats why it says Dress rehearsal!!!! They sounded better in the actual production i can sure you!
+lexellcassini Really? I guess anybody can say anything on a comment board.
+Shawnway86 lolololol i love this
LOLOL, perfect xD

The sad thing is, this even sounds like an insult to high school productions because a lot of them are actually really good
whY IS NO ONE ELSE FUCKED UP BY THE GREEN DRESS SONG
I THOUGHT WE ALL WERE
