Tony Khan may be too much of a "mark" for his own good. The problem is that there are so many storylines which reek of "WCW Under Vince Russo" or "WCW Post-nWo" vibes, starting with the Moxley heel turn and his attempts to "take over" AEW.
Or the fact that your tag team champions, the Young Bucks, only seem to defend their titles once every 4-5 months as if they were the second coming of Hall and Nash.
Or the fact that MJF is attempting to mash up Rock "The Dwayne" Johnson (h/t Olli Davis from Wrestletalk for that name) with Hulk Hogan and spend more time making movies than actually performing in the ring.
Or the fact that Bad Creative can't make up their minds as to whether MJF is the heel or Adam Cole is the face ... or vice versa ... and change their minds on a whim.
Or the fact that Chris Jericho is still winning titles even though he seems to have misplaced whatever's left of his charisma either in Stamford or Winnipeg and the crowd couldn't care less.
Or the fact that any Mercedes Mone appearance appears to be met with more silence than a library during finals week much like half of the WCW in their dying days (I swear, Britt Baker might be one of the few AEW women who get any reaction these days; maybe I'm missing something here).
Sorry for the long comment, but it's getting harder and harder for me to want to invest my time in AEW as opposed to WWE. It's almost to the point where I want to just watch Dynamite and/or Collision just to see how much worse the dumpster fire is getting in Jacksonville.

Now sure, part of that is that he's a control freak... I'm sure Tony isn't doing as much as Vince was, but still... compare that to Tony who is trying to run AEW and at the same time has a American football team, a European football team, and Ring of Honor that he's trying to juggle at the same time. The company won't go out of business, but their window to be a WCW-level competitor to WWE has closed. Just like TNA, they had their chance and in a few years no one will even be talking about Dynamite anymore.

I really wanted them to be good. I grew up watching the NWA in WCW and I did start watching WWF once the 90s started but just growing up in the Carolinas like all my friends and their parents and grandparents. That’s just what people watched so I was really happy when I found out someone that had enough money that was associated with Cody Rhodes was going to have pro wrestling on TBS and TNT again. I even knew that off the gate there were no storyline so I needed to give it a little bit of time so they can build some storylines up…….. honestly, you could just start watching AEW at any point and it would really feel like they were just starting three weeks before you started watching.
Yes, they’ve had some good matches here and there but as a week to week wrestling program, it really is the company that you could imagine if what if the absolute neck beards that do nothing but judge on how good the high spots are if they created a wrestling company, AEW is what it would be. Tony is way too concerned with what Dave Meltzer thinks.
I don’t think Tony has ever sat down and thought about the fact that during the Monday night war or during the golden age of the 80s when you got done watching wrestling the next day when you were talking about wrestling with your friends, you never once brought up Dave’s name or how many stars he gave a match . because that’s not why we watched it. If imaginary stars have become why you’re watching it there’s a problem.

It’s one man running the creative and he’s not into story telling but star ratings by a dirt sheet. Tony Khan ignores constructive criticism to the point he will not go on Busted Open SiriusXM if Bully Ray is on it. Over referee criticism. Bully has a student ref in WWE. honestly you wanna know the real reason why people are turning on AEW? it's because of Tony Khan especially the way how he's been acting and behaving for the past two years
they don't wanna support a company that has a 6 year-old spoiled, bratty manchild whose incompetence and petty, childish, immature stubbornness and thickskinness and who is also supposed to be the owner and the so-called *"leader"* has driven many people away from his product
despite their many faults you never saw Vince, Bischoff, Heyman and Dixie publicly act and behave this way that would push people away, especially pandering to *the sickos* instead of everyone
so as long as Tony is still in charge there is no hope and future for that company

There's no way of saving this company. Absolutely nothing can really be done to salvage what Tony Kahn and The Bucks have done to AEW. Every time an ex-WWE talent came over in the beginning it was like "OK let's see what they can do here or what are they going to bring to the new talent", but as time went on, it was just a bunch of ex-WWE talent trying get attention from Vince by saying "Please pay me more and I'll come back home". And Vince, especially Triple H, just outright told them "No, you wanted to play this game, now you're going to play it until it's over over."
Cody Rhodes and CM Punk leaving was the absolute end of AEW and now we're just watching a company stay on life support like Terry Schiavo and it's being juggled around on whos going to be the one that officially pulls the plug. 5 years ago, AEW did seem like something that could work, but as the memes and jokes went on, All Ego Wrestling became just that, a joke. The only people that are still taking it seriously are The Bucks, Tony, and Meltzer, and a handful of kool-aid drinkers who think this was ECW levels of good.
If this company somehow manages to make it through 2025, its just going to be sad. Like watching a mentally challenged Make A Wish kid getting to book one match.

    @bdr113080 18 дней назад +3

You guys hit the nail on the head. Yes they just got a big TV deal but that doesn’t mean they’re out of the woods. And you’re absolutely right it’s not like Tony was the one that started from nothing and came from nothing and became a billionaire that was his father.
People that become billionaires don’t get that way by keep throwing millions of dollars into companies that aren’t really producing anything back. All it takes is for the head guy at Warner Brothers right now who is in hot water because he’s made so many band decisions for Warner Brothers for him to get fired and then whoever his replacement is is going to look at AEW and want to know why did we just give $150 million to accompany with a shrinking audience?
Let’s be real AEW was popular at the beginning because in 2019 WWE was terrible and people wanted to watch anything and this was supposed to be the next WCW so they had about 18 months of it didn’t matter if it was good or bad, it could’ve been the worst pro wrestling ever and people would’ve loved it for the simple fact that it wasn’t WWE .
It’s the same kind of logic on why Bryan Danielson became a top guy in WWE. Yes he’s a decent technical wrestler. By that I mean, he knows how to do wrestling moves just like everyone else from his generation. I’m not saying he’s bad and I’m not really gonna say he’s the best of the best an athletic guy that knows how to do wrestling moves. I really don’t think it was the fans loving him as much as it was the fans hating Roman at the time. Same thing with AEW. It wasn’t because AEW was that good. It’s because they just hated WWE that much.
When you have an entire company where the owner and 90% of the workers have no idea what real wrestling psychology is and they think being a good worker just means you know how to do 683 wrestling moves and one match this is the result .
So far every big name they have signed, their biggest night was their debut when they got to walk to the ring and cut the “AEW is the best wrestling promotion ever. “ promo, and then after that, they’re just stuck in matches for the sake of having matches.
I get real sick of being told that you can’t do pro wrestling the way it was done in the 80s or 90s but how can they say that when nobody try to do it in over 25 years now? No, there aren’t more people watching wrestling today than there were back then. Yes you get really big crowds for big cards like wrestlemania but it’s not like the 90s where you had 10 million people watching pro wrestling a week and yes, we had VCR and DVR’s sometimes, but that’s just how impressive wrestling was then we did have the option to record and watch later but it was so good 10 million people were watching it as it happened live. Now companies get excited if they get 2 million people watching live.

AEW consistently is bringing in very high ratings, between the 5* matches or the very well received reviews on Cagematch, in terms of quality of the product -- AEW has never been higher, and in the long run, the other numbers will follow *those* ratings. Having banger after banger is laying down the groundwork for more audience, more attendance, more Neilson's ratings, a lot of people being critical of AEW fail to see that.

Honestly what I think needs to happen is for Tony to start downsizing the venues then work his way back up to the bigger ones. AEW isn’t as marketable as some ppl in the IWC believe. Like when they are trying to go to do Grand Slam in Australia when they haven’t even tested the market over there yet unlike Wembley. WWE has a market in Australia due to one of their biggest female draws in Rhea Ripley. Tony needs to take a step back, get some new boots on ground that studied the business, can run the company while he’s away and then be able to open himself up to constructive criticism so they can start bringing back the market they had. Most folks reasons for watching AEW was for an alternative to WWE being shit with Vince losing his mind every day. Once he gets a healthy break from the pen, he could be refreshed again but that’s only if Tony is willing to accept the fact he can’t run things by himself in a wrestling promotion when he wants to actively compete. I know that if AEW succeeds, WWE should succeed cause healthy competition should breed better, quality shows.
