to people looking to buy one this year (2024) theyve stepped all of their packages down - so what was "premium" is now the "executive" option and so on. so this review is relevant to the 2024 mercedes executive a-class - which means they are honestly incredible value for money when compared to BMW or audi
What you are saying about the packages is true, but in my country, the pre-facelift base model a class was about 23000 euros, the facelifted base model in 2024 starts at a whooping 40000 euros for the smallest engine (a200) that means almost double the price, when the a3 or 1 series start at about 26000, of course equipped with smaller engines, but I guess you could really get a bmw x1 instead of the a class, which is a whole class above🤷♂️
Great video! I've had my A-Class for 4 years now, I got my A200 AMG-Line Premium back in December of 2019, in Mountain Grey of course! I've found the engine is excellent, the power and efficiency it creates for a 1.33L engine is amazing. The tech inside is great, the navigation, lighting, parking sensors etc, all top notch! I just with the OS was a bit faster, its sooooo slow to load up when I get in the car, it takes I'd say a god 60-90 seconds to load into the main screen and be up to full speed, whereas my partners BMW with iDrive 7 for example, is up and running at 100% speed within 5 seconds, so you can hop in, say 'take me home' and boom, the satnav is taking you home. Can't do that in my A-Class as the OS is just so sluggish at times, you have to just sit there for ages before asking it anything. I've had major issues with the build quality too, 11 warranty claims, including 4 trips to various Mercedes garages to fix rattling noises, and loose fitting panels in the interior. Rattling/buzzing door, buzzing seatbelt clip, the entire dash used to clatter and click when I hit even the smallest of bumps, along with multiple other similar issues. I've even had to take the two front doors apart and stuff them with memory foam to muffle any rubbing noises in there, it really is very poor interior build quality for a £35k car at the time. I also find that having the correct tyres makes a big difference in this car, far more than others. I had a set of Pirelli P7 C1's on the back, and a pair of cheap Hankook winter tyres on the front for the best part of a year, and I recently changed them over to a full set of Pirelli P7 C2's, and Wow the difference in ride quality and noise, its a good 20% quieter I'd say, along with being much softer on the smaller bumps. The suspension and chassis doesn't seem to do a good job of absorbing these bumps and cancelling out noises by itself, so good tyres are a must on the A-Class.
Ah amazing thanks for sharing all of the info! Yes I do love the A-Class, they are superb! Yes it would be good if the multimedia systems started faster, I have the pre-facelift currently as a rental car while mine is repaired. The multimedia system defo takes longer to load where my actual one does load noticeably faster for CarPlay etc. Oh no not good with the warranty things…hopefully Mercedes managed to sort it for you! I’ll have to check out the tyres when I come to change them!
Thank you for explaining the mild hybrid so clearly. I’ve just bought an A class and was not sure how it assisted the vehicle. It’s such a great car to drive and far more zippier than I imagined.
It’s the first MB I’ve owned Nick after being a Lexus and Volvo driver. I must say, I’m pretty impressed even with just the executive model. Great cars and well made.
@@alanhodgson8899I’ve Just brought this exact model I’m collecting in March 👍. I’ve change from my Range Rover Evoque to something a little different & hopefully more reliable xx
Dear Janine @@user-J.767 I hope you have many years of happy and reliable motoring, they are great cars…super, in fact. I’ve always been treated with great courtesy and care by MB staff at my local dealership. I guess that’s part of the package with a quality car. Many, many miles of joyful motoring await you. Drive safely Alan. xx
11:10 prime example of Cost Cutting, you can clearly tell the space left behind is an afterthought. It's pretty bad cause the touch pad we actually well designed with proper haptics
The fuel economy I am getting from my 2023 A class is outstanding. The average since April is 52mpg but on a 200 mile run down the A68 from Scotland today I got 66mpg. Wow - better than any diesel car I have owned.
Hey Nick, I have an A250e Plug-in hybrid (pre-facelift model), and that thing is fast. Even so powerful, the front tires cannot get enough grip when doing a full acceleration from standstill. Really like the car for its sporty and zippy ride! Only complained is the boot space. It's quite a bit smaller compared to non plug-in models, Only 310L, which is small. I drove an A180 petrol also and that 370L boot capacity is so much more livable, day by day. Big difference. I drive 80% of the time full electric, and the electromotor is more than powerful enough for city driving, even highways no problem with 144km/h top speed in full electric. Great little car! Thank you for covering such useful information.
Thank you! I was so close to buying that one but I couldn’t with the added expense. Maybe next time! Yes they are super fast and more than adequate on just electric alone in most cases! Glad you’re enjoying it! 😎
Just had my brand new a200 executive hatchback for a month now and really love the experience it’s my first automatic after over 40 years of driving. I find your videos well presented and learnt so much more from them rather than browsing through the manual especially the mild hybrid explanation. Very useful. My only gripe about buying the car would be the way I was treated by the dealership. I was left hanging around for ages when picking up the car and lack of detail/ professionalism in the handover bay (dirty marks on the bonnet they had to get the Valetta back to clean them off, helium ballon’s were floating on the bay ceiling after becoming detached from the rear wiper, I just found it all a bit shoddy and spoilt what should have been a happy experience and not what I expected from a premium dealership ( not even a bottle of wine). After getting the car home I looked under the bonnet and found the windscreen washer bottle top was left hanging lose, I know all these are small items but I think attention to detail is expected from Mercedes. Love the car but dealership needs improvement…. Looking forward to your next video thanks Nick👍
Wish Mercedes tweaked a few more things and had the ambient lighting extended to rear passengers. Also they have removed lighting in the headrests and door handles.
As a channel subscriber and having just changed my car to the Facelift NTG7 version, I'm in the process of going through all your recent videos on the subject. This one as ever is very informative. You explained the MHEV aspect far better than my dealershp did and I now understand how & when it impacts on my driving and the cars performance. So thanks again 👍
Nick, we have a 2020 GLE 300d Premium Plus, we learned so much about it from your fabulous videos, thank you It is currently in for repair under warranty and Mercedes gave us a brand new A200 Executive Sport as a courtesy car and I LOVE it, have been zipping around in Sport mode - don’t want to give it back, you made a great choice!
Dear Nick and sure all commenter guys; First of all, thank you. I have a question for you-have you had a chance to drive or check out the new BMW 1 Series 120? I'm deciding between the A200 and the 120, but I'm still unsure. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? The 120 comes with the M Sport package, including the standard M features, while the A200 has the typical AMG features. Looking forward to your advice! Thanks.
Commenter guys? 😅 what’s that Well glad you enjoy the videos! No not yet but something is booked in with BMW, I’m hoping there to be a video this year so keep an eye out! 🙏
I have the same car/spec as you with around the same mileage as well, I don't use the wireless CarPlay due to the delay when on phone calls but for music streaming it's fine
Yes I’ve noticed that, I do tend to plug CarPlay in more to be honest… Here’s a tip, did you know this? Are you using the front USB-C port? I’ve found that it also works in the USB-C port in the centre armrest (if you’re using wired CarPlay). In every other Mercedes you have to use the front port but this new one allows multiple ones! 🤓 phone can sit in the middle now without wires dangling over the cupholders 😇
Been loving my '21 A35 every day I've owned it. Only thing I wish the first owner had specced was radar cruise control and the AMG steering wheel, but other than that it's pretty much a perfect car
Absolutely love your video Nick! I've had my A220 since March and the smile never goes away from my face whenever I drive it. Initially I opted for a plugin but had to change the engine spec which made me a little worried about fuel consumption but as you mentioned in the video the mild hybrid technology is really doing its job. On my vacations I drove to Croatia from Poland with avg fuel consumption at 5 liters/100km (sorry, dont know how much mpg is that 😂) ... I think is an insane result for a 2 liter engine. Cheers!
@@npoleary Mercedes Benz has not Renewed..........its Tires-Wheels😢 for 20-twenty years, they are always the Same and we are Bored😏🙄😒 Audi, DS, Toyota, Land Rover, Tesla, Alls renew their Wheels...Not Only The Car❤
My A220d is shocking..soon as I hit 8k gearbox became really jerky..not smooth when changing down and sometimes struggle to decide what gear it needs to be in..been back to the dealer 4 times..shocking car
I have the Premium plus with the 1.9 diesel, 8 speed gearbox. Having had lots of good cars, this car is head and shoulders the best. Its extremely quick, despite it not being fully run in. (2000 miles) I don’t miss the old touch pad, but, and a BIG but, I detest the finger marks on the screen. There are so many features, how anyone not watching your pod casts would know about them. The new dead lock feature in particular, even the dealer didn’t know how to activate. I too pondered about a sunroof, however, what I did want was a panoramic roof.
Ah awesome thanks for sharing! And no problem! Got more content on my list to share for the future in between all of the other videos I want to create and cover!
Hi Nick. 😃 I'm glad that you are so happy with your Mercedes and I wish you a good, safe and accident-free journey. Maybe we'll stop by your place in Poole on the way to Cornwall next year. Best regards, Sven
Here in Australia the sunroof is now a standard feature on the new A class. Only 2 spec options too, base and plus package. The A200 replaces the A180 as the entry model. No diesel models and no plug-in hybrid. The full model range is the A200, A250, A35 and A45. Sedans for all models except the A45.
Love your videos and have subscribed and watched since taking delivery of my A220 AMG Line Premium Plus back in December 2020. Absolutely love the car. It is comfortable, quick, when I need it to be. And as for economical? I get blown away. 3 trips up to Scotland since the New Year from Leicestershire, and each exceeding 1000+ miles, has returned on average 62+mpg. Instant read out at one point was showing 74.2. However, I was digressing. You may have dodged a bullet with not going for Premium Plus as regards the sunroof. We were travelling away for this weekend, when I heard an almighty bang above me. I hadn't seen anything hit the screen. When we arrived at our destination, imagine my horror to find the panel between the top of the windscreen and the actual sunroof had developed a pattern of stars and cracks. Subsequent searches on the internet suggests a design fault in the bonding adhesive. I now have to visit my dealer on monday to see what we can do to correct this. I do hope this vist does not dent my faith in the Mercedes brand.
Ah thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll keep them coming! Yes the economy is amazing! 🤓 Oh no! Hopefully they can check it out and sort it! Fingers crossed!
Really good detail Nick, thank you. I enjoy a 2 year old CLA Premium at the moment. Great tec, and very good economy these days too. Keep up the videos
Watching this just after I had a test drive in a A class. I like saloon type cars and this looks perfect for me as I did not want something too big. I found it very easy to operate the controls, had the CarPlay going in now time - if I can do it then anyone can. I like the column gear change and also the reversing camera seems very handy. I went through the instrument displays but found the standard on to be the best for me. Think I will buy one.
Hi Nick had the A250e sedan which arrived in October'22, but retired end of May so had to return it, company vehicle. Super vehicle, the systems, screens in the car all excellent. Enjoyed it so much had to stay with MB but being a retiree bought a 66 reg SLC 200AMG. Keep doing the tips and guides, great work Nick.
Why no Head- up display option on your car? How you using it without seat ventilation on hot summer days? Panoramic sunroof gives so much light in a cabin. I never ever open it, but sunroof shade is open all the time. Do you have a 360 camera option? Is so useful every time when you are parking. And last one, You said that you love good sound. Do youself a favor and make a full noise insulation. I did it in my A class and a difference was like day and night. All these features I'm using on daily basis in my A class.
Head up display and pano roof are on the premium plus package in the UK for that car. It just was a lot more per month which I couldn’t quite stretch to. And sadly no such thing as seat ventilation on that model in the UK. Oh yeah that’ll be good, I mean it’s pretty good anyway
Haha thank you! Well, the rest of my videos aren’t entirely scripted. Of course I make notes before filming with the facts but I don’t read word for word. I had considered that but the equipment to carry was too much, most of the time I’ll shoot a couple of takes and pick the best 😛
Love your informational videos but there is one thing i cannot find anywhere on the internet or in any video and that is if you could change the swipe direction when using the touchpad or touch swipe on the steering wheel? It is against my nature since the swipe on my iphone is the opposite.
Thanks for sharing your driving experience with us. I have an A class of 2018 with car play, but I must use a cable. If I want to convert in a wireless platform, what I have to do? Thanks in advance. Regards
Thank you! 🙏 Mercedes bought out wireless CarPlay on this new facelift but I already have videos on my channel for previous gen models. They are only wired but you can make them wireless: ruclips.net/video/lRhL-DXVL3g/видео.html
I’ve done just under 1,000 miles in my A200 AMG Line Premium Nick 👍🏻 find those grab handles are fingerprint magnets & also have an annoying creak coming from the rear left side while driving, also keeping those AMG wheels clean from break dust is a nightmare, other than that no issues. The engine is so quite you can barely hear it at times which feels odd, sport mode livens it up but it’s no slouch even in comfort mode 😃
Ah nice! 🤓 Handily I don’t leave many fingerprints but being a satin finish I can see that it might in some cases. Ah no if something’s not right like with creaking, if you get in touch with Mercedes, they’ll be able to help you out and check it for you.
I too have noticed a creak coming from the rear near side and I’m pretty sure it’s coming from the parcel shelf bracket but I can’t find a way to stop it.
I did wonder if it was parcel shelf, it’s flippin annoying whatever it is, on good roads it’s mostly fine but as soon as you get a slightly uneven road it creaks like mad, not what you expect on a ‘Premium’ 40k car 🤔
@@OctavianB My creak is definitely internal, sounds like the headlining, seats or parcel shelf, not sure which it is… but it’s emitting from the passenger side rear.
I have the A250 and although i love it my partner hates it, she finds the seats so firm and uncomfortable and as a passenger she has nowhere to hold on as the door handle is too far forward. The other thing I truly hate about it which is not only for this model or Mercedes in general is the inability to permanently turn off lane keeping assist which I find to be the most dangerous safety feature ever. But what I really love about this car is that it's small enough for lots of town driving but solid and big enough for fast motorway driving.
I was going to get this car but it's been discontinued for 2024. I ended up with a 2024 C 300 AMG fully loaded in Magno gray matt, also Nick this is an amazing video that you talk about packages and mention the Eco mode white driving, i never noticed that betore !!
Ah nice! I don’t believe it’s being discontinued, it’s Mercedes most popular model! However…with the push for electric in 2030, something could happen to the A-Class so we’ll have to see over the coming years. Oooo nice! No worries, glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Nick, I have a CLA and the only thing I dislike is the leg room. I'm only 5.11' and I just can't get comfortable to the point i'm selling after 4,000km
@@npoleary Will go for the C43, but not the new one Will get the 2022 model with the V6, will save some money and I PREFER THE V6 TO THE 4CYL. I'm in Australia by the way. Love all your videos, keep up the good work Cheers
I have an A class which is essentially the same and at 5’ 10” I can’t really get the seat back as far as I’d like as the steering wheel does not come out enough. In saying that the compromise I have worked out is fine. Not as good as my C class cabriolet which I have found to be the most comfortable car I have ever owned and that includes a fair few Volvos whose seats are also fantastic. In the C class the steering wheel comes out a bit more and the seat is nice and low.
Hey MizraPaul, gesture? Just indicating where the blind spot would be 👍🏼 Typically rear left or rear right of the car, it’s quite cool as it shows a red warning triangle in your mirrors if someone is there. I think it’s active above 10 or so miles an hour or something around that area 👍🏼
Feel that MB should just remove the headrest for the rare seats. They are not serious seat in the first place, and for occasional use, headrest is not likely the top of the complaint anyhow :)
Hi Nick, I've got a A250e 2022 model (so the previous variant) with the AMG-line package, however the ambient lights do not wrap around on the door. When I asked my local Mercedes dealership they said that that's because of the alcantara material on the door panel. However I noticed that your model does have the AMG-line package and the ambient lighting is also visible on the door panel as well. Is that a feature of the newer 2023 model?
I guess so! 🤓 I remember there being an option when I first covered the A-Class on my channel, there was an option for a trim and I remember it was different in countries round the world. It might be the bit you’re referring to as it added the extra strip of ambient light. The newer ones just have one option now which I think is easier.
Hi Nick great video again. I have 2018 premium plus, in economy when you shut off it goes to idle to save fuel though not off. Also I like the electric seat which moves upright to help you get out and in. Plus sunroof of course. Love the led headlights that look round corners but in Auto mode I do get flashed sometimes by oncoming traffic. On your mild hybrid does not the electric motor assist on initial pull away to save fuel even in comfort mode? Ford Puma does for example. I’m saving up for a GLA for my next car. I need more ground clearance where I live. Cheers keep up the good work.
Thank you! Yes it does assist with pulling away to, basically filling in the gaps of turbo lag etc Ah nice! I’ve heard there’s a new GLA coming so I’ll be sure to cover that when I get the chance!
Nick, could you do a video on car security covering anti theft devices, mercedes me app security, gps tracking, what to do if your car gets stolen, and other things to do to make sure your Mercedes is a secure as possible. My 2019 GLC got stolen because of the keyless entry technology and now regretting not getting a key pouch and tracking device.
I did last year 🤓 ruclips.net/video/omt_MIepoq8/видео.htmlsi=5OluAWlcpzP1G7pF But….I am planning a better and newer version in the works which covers more of exactly what you said
Haha I don’t think anyone wants to see that! It won’t take long it’s not very big 😅 You’ll the office / studio from time to time and in the future! It needs painting yet so it’s not ready just yet
Just watched this again!! I am in love with the ambient lighting also.. When I had the GLS 450 matic 2022 .. But had to shut that off night driving!! Too bright reflection on the inside windows at night... But Yeah .. Love your car.. Not a fan of the start stop also.. The gls had it but I did not use it.. More power without out it....
Hi Nick. Great video as usual. I have a 3 year old A200 sport, love it, but somehow have managed to mute the indicator sound. Have tried to find a volume increase but no luck. Any ideas please? David
A really good video Nick! Really good details about the new a class I’m personal really exited to see the new dashcam on the a class, and see how It compares to my a class from 2020. Love the feature however such a shame it’s not available to start on its own In my country.
Thank you! 🙏 yeah me too! I’ll have to fork out £200 somewhen to activate it from the Mercedes me store 😅 It’s on my list of potential future videos! 🤓
I’m glad you didn’t go for the multi beam led headlights because it’s great when) it works however 70% of the time. You constantly get this feature is unavailable due the camera restrictions cold dark mornings blah blah. And this is when I absolutely need it ffs.
Hi Nick Just bought a B200 AMG premium plus. It looks like there are different options on the new Mbux system. Your demonstration was on the portrait middle display and it is not the same on the landscape display on your A class. Example is collision detect, no mention of it on landscape display to take photos even when I have a 360 degree camera. Any other anomalies have you found?
Ah yes specs will always vary especially when it comes to models with smaller screens in smaller cars. There are features in some more expensive models in manufactures which won’t be present in their entry level models. Comparing an A-Class though like my car to an E-Class is a completely different car. I would expect the features to be more in a higher luxury car 🤓 I aim to cover some more content on my car soon!
@@npoleary I do not have a problem with that but the manual states I have the option on the Mbux screen? Even the salesmen seem confused. It would be a nice touch to know what you have got in the UK build.
So go careful, I never ever read car manuals back to back as they will refer to things which do not exist in the UK. The best thing to do is if you want to refer to the manual, find the feature on the car first and then read the manual about that feature. Sadly this isn’t a Mercedes thing, all car manufacturers print manuals universally for the world. But if you are ever stuck, I always try to help where I can, but Mercedes dealerships are pretty good too, my local one has helped me loads with answering techie questions + their brochures are really good too for seeing exact specs.
@@npoleary I agree I only tried to find what Guard360 did as it was etched on my windows. It looks like it is a generic statement to deter theft ? Anyway very happy with car.
Guard 360 also known as Urban Guard. It is basically the alarms for modern Mercedes (usually exterior and interior alarms on cars) but with the ability to notify on the Mercedes me app too 🤓 There’s also the actual Guard 360 Package you can buy on the Mercedes me Store what I’ve seen, with a one touch button to help recover the cover in the event of a car being stolen.
Hi Nick. Great video as always. How do you find the 7 speed gearbox in your A class. Ive seen some reviews saying it can be dim witted at slower speeds. Cheers.
Thank you! 🙏 I love it! However as I’ve slowly started expanding to other car makes and models I sadly haven’t drive anything in the same line up yet. So BMW, Audi, VW (Auto, although I did review the manual against my car) It’s good but before offering my thoughts, I’d love to try out others for comparison 🙏
Very cool! Have you taken your car on a longer road trip? What’s your mileage now? How about reliability? Thanks for giving us useful videos, Nick! Cheers!
Absolutely! Many road trips between 2-4 hours and 6.5 hours was the longest I think. My mileage is about 9k. Yeah all good! It's actually due a service soon so I think I'll do a one year review or something 👀 Think they're also doing a software update too on a recall for steering or something. I've heard Mercedes are updating some software on a few models where they think something might need updating as a pre-caution but otherwise all good! My partner's car also had a similar update too (not a Mercedes couldn't convince her 😂)
Hi Many thanks for the video. Do you know if its possible to set the Eco mode as default? I've to change every time from comfort to Eco but i was wondering if it can be set by default to Eco instead of Comfort driving modus.
It seems you have a front camera under the rain sensor. I would love to have that on mine. I heard it can easily be retrofitted in the UK. I am in Australia. Also, during my last service, I was given a courtesy car which like yours does not have electric seats, however if you are the only driver as I am, it’s not that important because set my seat position and forget it. I love the touch pad, so I will obviously have to learn to live without it after a future upgrade to a new model.
No sadly Mercedes like most manufacturers will not retrofit anything. Dealers only typically sell cars as they’re described. Sometimes a dealer might offer cosmetic fitting but they won’t modify anything. Don’t think they’re allowed to! Yeah it’s one of the reasons why I didn’t opt for Premium Plus, not sure I need the electric seats! 😅
I own a C300 Sport and when i was on a long run to and from the lakes the other week i put the car into eco for the first time and it did that and i wondered why now i know !! So thanks for the vid covering that subject cheers Nick 👍👍 Clad you are enjoying the car !!
High Nick, Great videos, I have an A Class, (AMG Package) I cant workout the purpose of the different themes you can select, what is the difference between them and the selection of Styles and Displays, have you done a feature on this. Regards Keith
I have! Got loads of videos on Mercedes on my channel with more coming in the future! ruclips.net/video/wRlJ8DEri8o/видео.html I may not have covered the themes but they just adjust the colours of take instrument cluster. Everything else is on the video above 👆
Hey Nick you must mention in a upcoming video about the ‘cylinder deactivation’ feature on these engines, had no idea until I was reading up about it the other day.
Ah yes, think Mercedes have had that in the A-Class since 2018 (possibly before that in other models). Weirdly it’s not mentioned in brochures but it defo does do it! 🤓
Thanks Nick for all your wonderful videos. I wonder if mild hybrid is a bad thing to have for those of us who only do infrequent short drives. A friend mentions having flat battery problems all the time with her mild hybrid (not a Mercedes)?
Most cars that are newly released have Mild Hybrid Tech now, but there again it would only be if you did extremely short journeys. If you’re doing a mile or two each day then that might not be enough to charge the battery up enough, so you could invest in a trickle charger to help.
Hello, thank you for your instructional videos! I find them to be very useful and informative. I have a question about idling time for Mercedes Benz cars. I have a 2023 GLC 300 and I'm planning to keep it off the roads for 3 month of the winter. Would the battery be OK to be left in the car for this time? Which provisions do you recommend? Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! It might be okay, but it’s borderline where I’d probably recommend to get a trickle charger just to keep the battery topped up just in case. That way all of the settings and everything in the car will remain the same! 🤓 I haven’t tested any myself so at this point so I’d probably recommend to get the Mercedes one, they do sell them if you get in contact with them, they’ll let you know costs etc
Hi Nick, really enjoyed your video, thank you! Are you able to tell me what the “light and sight” extras are please?? I believe this is part of the “premium” MB package?? Thanks!
Thank you! Really sorry I’ve heard of this before but not 100% sure. I believe it’s something to do with rain sensor and auto lights. All of that is standard as far as I’ve seen on UK Mercedes.
Why no mention of the B class, my B250e premium is superb and no problem folding rear seats down! Mercedes should keep making the B class it is ideal for family and seniors..
Yeah it’s very similar! This video is on my car (the one I own 🤓) Mercedes do B-Class, GLA & GLB which are virtually the same car but just more space on the inside along with different styles and similar engines.
Be interested to know whether you've noticed the rear camera on your 2023 A Class has a mind of it's own, which Mercedes say is "normal"! When driving forward, you can hear the rear camera door open, as it would when about to reverse. This happens seemingly continuously throughout a journey and usually when slowing to turn. My local dealer had the car in their workshop for 1-day only to tell me 'this is normal, as the camera self calibrates as you drive'. Having had a 2021 A class that did not do this, I have since found others complaining about the same issue on their 2023 A class, so I guess this is a flaw Mercedes are reluctant to fix, which is somewhat disappointing as this spoils an otherwise perfect car. Keen to know your thoughts.
No not a flaw at all! I asked Mercedes this years ago and this is what they said. Reversing cameras used to be just mounted on the exterior exposed to the light conditions which made it show the image instantly. Because they were on the outside they got dirty very quickly. However newer styled cameras now have a retractable housing which is good for keeping it clean but the camera when it pops out has to expose for the light (daytime / nighttime / low light etc) and it can take seconds before it actually shows you an image. To combat this Mercedes will have the camera “pre-pop out” as you slow down so when you do select reverse, the image is shown instantly.
Thanks for your response Nick, much appreciated. To my mind the additional function would surely expose the camera to more road dirt, especially as the vehicle is moving forward when it 'pops out' when not needed 🤷🏼♂️. It's perhaps more annoying the dealer couldn't just tell me on the phone this was normal, rather than have the car in for a day to tell me! Compounded by the knowledge my 2021 A Class did not have this feature/issue.
No worries! True! I guess but there should not be that much dirt flickering up off the road. I’ve never had to clean mine 👍🏼 However I’ve got a car on test from another manufacturer at the moment who’s camera is exposed all the time where it does not go in and out and I point this out in the review for potential buyers to know 👍🏼
This is my third A class A180 executive line. My first two were a pure delight to drive. This third one is awful. The parcel shelf and rear of the car constantly rattle like a well used taxi from the 90’s . As for the rear camera calibrating constantly at low speed, my dealer tells me it’s a ‘feature’ of the new face lift . So irritating. It’s back at the dealer again today for the 5th time since January. Are all A classes the same with the rear camera issue?
Thank you! Aiming to cover the Premium Car Manufacturers going forward but with added Mercedes stuff as it’s my daily car! 👀 Sadly no it can’t as it’s available in two screen sizes. Here’s the snippet I send to people: Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before. The reason is because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!
Hello Nick Thank you for your videos, it's very helpful. I need your help one more time, I have a A180 from 2019 amg line out and I can find the front fog light switch I don't even know if this model have it. Can you please help me? Thanks and keep it up with the good work.
Ah thank you! Just like my car most models these days don’t need front fog lights. So you’ll find a rear one (right of the light switch near the driver’s door) but no front fog lights.
It will be in the same place on the steering wheel, there’ll be cruise and LIM that you can toggle between. If you’re based somewhere else, spec varies though so may differ (sorry hard to tell where everyone is from on RUclips)
Don’t worry I’ve heard this many times before but rest assured the entry level engines in the compact car range are not just "Renault engines", Mercedes and Renault have combined their efforts together to produce a very highly economical, low emission and powerful engine. It’s common for some manufacturers to share designs with each other. Others include Mini Peugeot sharing their engines, Volvo and Noble, Mercedes S-Class & Pagani Zonda and many others too. For the engine you’re talking about, Mercedes also put their own tech and spin into it and designed Formula One technology such as Nanoslide and even cylinder shut-off called CAMTRONIC allowing the cylinders to go down to 2! None of this is found in the Renault’s engines so no, they are definitely not the same at all. Even the new variants feature mild hybrid technology which also is not found on Renault models. I don’t recall Mercedes offering either of those engines any more, just A180, A200, A200d and A250e. And AMG’s as well
Hi nick love your videos they help me a lot with my new GLC 300 suv premium. I’ve got 1 question there seems to be no ambient lights coming from the air vents is this right as it’s a brand new 2023 model ?
It’s just the different design of the interiors of Mercedes. Mercedes as a brand have over 30 models and they’re all slightly different and some have different designed interiors etc. I’m pretty sure it’s just compact cars that have lights in vents as that’s what their interior’s look like. So A-Class, GLA, CLA, B-Clss, GLB etc GLC is based on the C-Class so is a bit different 🤓
Ah sorry misread your message, if it’s the new shape one (the one with the portrait screen) there’s probably an option for ambient light (if not standard). Just bear in mind spec varies round the world and if you do have it there are options to toggle certain areas on/off. If you’re stuck just chat with Mercedes and they can check your exact spec as it is different all the way round the world (sorry it’s really hard to tell where everyone is from on RUclips)
If it’s a new one they should have ambient lighting, it was standard on the car I reviewed at my local Mercedes. Get in touch with your local one and they’ll be able to check your reg, they have product experts who’ll be able to help! 🤓
Another great video Nick, May I wish you many happy and safe miles with your new car. I have a question about global window opening/closing, I have a 2019 A 180D sport executive which I love but the global window opening/closing does not work until I am about 2-3 ft from the car. My previous car ( Ford Focus) opened from about 20 yards away. any Ideas why I need to be so close? I like to open all windows as I approach my car on sunny days to let the built-up heat out before I get in.
Thank you! Ah yes I’ve noticed that My Vauxhall Astra could open windows on the other side of the car park 😂 (bit unnecessary). But with Mercedes operating windows always has to be done a few metres away from the car, like right next to it. Not sure why but they’re all like that.
Nice video, you make all videos upon new models, is there any chance that gives options for upgrading bit older models like having revers camera or replacing media system.
Thank you! Well when it comes to videos, most manufacturers only have new cars only available to review, they don’t tend to push the older models too much. I’m sure there are ways to do it, but usually dealerships can’t sadly do retrofits like that.
Nick when are you going to do a walk through on the mbux system in your car as it is the same as my new GLA which I am still having some problems with the different settings especially the profile log in, which I find very boring every time I start the car i have to input the pin again which after say 5 - 6 starts a day gets frustrating. You did send me links last week, but they are different from my mbux. Thanks again
I can add it to the list of potential future videos, this multimedia system here is exactly the same except it uses a portrait screen: ruclips.net/video/G1tQ06BGOx4/видео.htmlsi=F-BIYLfqofOZgi94 Oh yes do turn the pin off, it’ll get in the way! Once you’re logged in tap on the profile usually at the top and look for a menu called “Access Protection”. Just toggle it off so you don’t have to type it in every time. First thing I did in my new car!
i bought mine 2023 a180 amg line ,omg im loving it ,very smooth , fast , mine is hybrid aswell ,just watching your video to work out how the hybrid work 😂😂😂
I’d probably go grey if I was getting one again today and Premium Plus. I do love the gadgets! Haha Apple CarPlay and Android are standard on it now which is good 👍🏼
@@npoleary Nick, would you say that the dark windows are a must have? All the videos I see have those. Particularly with the white car it seems something one would really want.
Quite a few cars have the darken rear windows which I quite like to be honest 🤓 They’re not a must have, but I like them. I’m pretty sure it’s standard in the UK though on certain trims.
I've had an A250 for a little over 3 months (roughly 2500 miles) and the one thing I notice is how weak the windscreen is. I've accumulated multiple "pits/chips" in my windshield after only such a short time. I also don't drive aggressive or tailgate at all. h Had a VW for 5.5 years and this was not an issue at all. Any thoughts?
Trust me I’ve had a bad experience of a car like that once, it was on a Ford. I was adamant it was the car! I had a windscreen replaced and I still got attacked by stones on the motorway…
Does premium version have traffic light camera? I have driven premium plus and it had it. Also it had 360 camera (which i assume standard one won’t have).
It depends on the year of car and specs at the time of release so best to check with Mercedes staff for that one. When I bought my car it was on the Premium Package (it’s called Augmented Reality) but also if you’re based elsewhere in the world, then it will be different too.
I bought a new model A180 in April and it is a fantastic car but I do have an issue with the rear view camera which I wonder if you have noticed as I am advised by MB that this is the standard mode of operation now. The problem is that, every time you start the car, the camera will open once you get down to around 15mph then close again when you get back up to 20mph. It will do this about four times or maybe more and it is very noisy and annoying as it does it every time you start the car and there is no way to stop it doing this. I have taken the car into my local dealer and then contacted MB and I have been advised that this is not a fault and that the camera now goes through a calibration sequence every single time you start the car. I cannot for the life of me understand why this is necessary as the previous version did not do this and I was wondering if you could offer any explanation as it is really spoiling the enjoyment of an otherwise perfect car.
Oh they all do this now (mine the same) Cameras like this one are tucked away above the numberplate to keep them clean etc. However because it’s in the dark when it opens it needs to expose correctly for the light and because of this, when you used to select reverse there were usually a couple of seconds of the camera adjusting so you can see. Now because the camera opens beforehand it’s exposed the picture ready for when you put it in reverse, so notice when you do select reverse (for example parking after driving) the picture is there instantly. The only difference is you might hear the camera pop out. It’s not a fault it’s designed that way to make the picture appear faster when you do reverse 🤓
Thanks very much for this prompt reply. I kind of get it technically but did Mercedes not realise that the camera operation is quite noticeable when it is happening over and over again each time you start the car up and that it might get really annoying in practice. Also, why does it only do it about four times then it stops doing it. If Mercedes decided to programme the camera to open when the speed drops in anticipation of you perhaps wanting to go into reverse why does it not do it every time you slow down? Mercedes have advised me that the camera now goes through a calibration process each time you start up the car, hence the sequence of opening and closing a number of times, but this does not sound the same as your explanation so I am even more confused to be honest. This makes no sense. Mercedes should be made aware that the possible advantage of the camera opening up in advance is outweighed by the noise it is continually making. Does the noise not bother you or is it covered up by your music - I don’t ever listen to the radio or music in the car.
I’ve noticed it on virtually every single Mercedes that I’ve reviewed recently but no it doesn’t bother me at all. I can see why it’s good for it to pop out to get the exposure right ready to show on the screen. It will also happen when the parking sensors detect you’re getting close to something again ready to show on screen. Maybe I’ve not noticed it as much because I’ll always have a podcast or music playing etc
I was very confused when I took my A class for the first road test after i bought it, thought that maybe the dealer forgot something in the trunk. But then i realised that happens when I am braking for 50mph for example and at around 17mph I was hearing a sound from behind the car.Than I realised that a”P” pops on the dash , and I made a connection with the sound and realised its the reverse camera.I was even more surprised when i found out that this is the new normal for operating for this camera, and that it will try to calibrate every time you start it.Hope they will come with some sort of an update and fix it in the near future.
Now that would have been cool to see a behind the scenes video of them cleaning my car for the first time! But then it would have spoilt me taking the cover off when I picked it up 😂 I am potentially going to cover something like this in the future but I doubt Mercedes would let me film behind the scenes on that one so might be something at home. Open to it though! It’s in the list of potential future videos!
I think it was called ProActivity in settings So it can be toggled on/off in there From memory it’ll around the area of Settings System Voice Assistant or something similar?
Hey Nick! I have watched a lot of your videos about A and CLA clases and I am really happy how informative and educational they are! So, big thank you for your work Sir! I would like to go for a CLA shooting brake but in general one thing still bothers me a lot..... Since I live in Germany I'm going to order from here but once or twice a year I'm traveling back to my country which is on1600km. I have estimated that I should stop for refueling 4 or even 5 times for the entire distance with pretty much every engine which I choose, except maybe 2.0 diesel. Can you recommend which one I should prefer in order to take as long a distance as I can with less refueling? Thank you in advance!
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Wow that’s some serious distance! I’d have to stop to at least use the toilet a few times 😅😅 To be honest any diesel will be really good for that journey, that’s what they’re for. Of course the higher the MPG or L/per km the better. For the best range of a diesel, aim to get a lower down car rather than an SUV (as some may have 4MATIC) which will take a hit on fuel economy. CLA’s aerodynamics are very good with a low drag co-efficient drag factor so one of them is probably a good choice!
No worries! I have covered the CLA already in a separate video, have you seen it? 🤓 CLA has slightly less headroom in the rear due to the sloping coupe styled roof 👍🏼
When getting into my C300 I have to re start my radio every know and then instead of automatically coming on. How do l get it to work from engine start up? I have my iPhone 14 connected could this be an issue?
It should just start automatically unless you’ve switched it off using the on/off button for the multimedia system. If you don’t think something’s right through, get in touch with your local Mercedes and they can help you out 🤓
Great video Nick! I have a question about your driving position. In your video you say you are over 6 foot tall and prefer to sit further back but I can't help but notice that you sit really far back from the pedals and the steering wheel. Is there a reason for this? I'm practically 6ft tall with long legs but in my GLC I prefer to sit higher up and closer to the wheel (but not excessively so!). Would appreciate your thoughts on why you prefer the further back driving position? Love all your Mercedes videos and glad you got your A-Class, it looks fantastic!!
Haha thank you! Well my partner always likes to make fun of me for this but I have really long legs and apparently "a short body". So I literally have to sit further back or my knees hit the bottom of the steering wheel 😂 So I kind of have to PS: Glad you love the videos and thank you for watching!
I am only 5’ 10” but I sit quite far back in the seat and as low as it will go. I am so far back in fact that the steering wheel does not come out quite far enough. It is not possible for anyone to sit in the rear behind me. I adopt this position as I have two artificial hips and feel more comfortable when my legs are stretched out. I have tried nearly all of the SUVs around and cannot get comfortable in any of them as the seat cannot go low enough for me. So the A class seating position is great apart from the steering wheel reach but the seating position in my C class cabriolet is fantastic - the most comfortable car I have ever had and that includes a few Volvos which were very comfy.
Undecided as to whether I should change cars! We currently own a 6 year old 41k miles GLA 200d AMG and thinking of getting the A180 PREMIUM. It was registered April 23 and using part x it would cost us £10k. Not sure if it’s worth it! Can I please ask. What would you prefer? Thank you
I have a more updated review coming this Friday so keep an eye out! 😜 Coming from GLA to A-Class, it is slightly smaller and lower down to the ground so depends how much boot space you need or don’t mind losing. And going to petrol it’ll cost a little bit more to run day to day: ruclips.net/video/OAYWKrKu7kI/видео.htmlsi=Rfr6UoQ23m5OQJj5 There’s my economy test if you’re curious. But keep an eye out Friday for the next one 😜
No sadly not Mercedes don’t retrofit items like that. Mercedes dealerships aren’t allowed to as they’re apparently only allowed to sell cars as they’re described on their spec sheets.
My question was that can your a class do the lane changing assist because my old a class had it and now I recently switched from an a class to an cla and the cla did not have the lane changing assist
Lane Change Assist in Mercedes is only found on certain models and you have to have the Driving Assistance Package. Usually only an option on certain specs so it depends if that was selected or not when it was new 🤓
I selected one in the showroom 🤓 Most cars available from what I’ve heard are a two week wait at Mercedes now 😎 There are of course some models which take longer but most are pretty quick!
Hey zhiyaoo, that’s for watching however make sure you’re subscribed to my channel (it’s free! All it does is notify you if you turn notifications on) I posted this exact topic 10 days ago 🤓 a very in-depth video!
Ah yes I remember that, the saloon has slightly different head rests. Not sure why but…on the saloon you can adjust the head rest, so it actually has more adjustment than the hatchback 🤓
to people looking to buy one this year (2024) theyve stepped all of their packages down - so what was "premium" is now the "executive" option and so on. so this review is relevant to the 2024 mercedes executive a-class - which means they are honestly incredible value for money when compared to BMW or audi
Well Boner
What you are saying about the packages is true, but in my country, the pre-facelift base model a class was about 23000 euros, the facelifted base model in 2024 starts at a whooping 40000 euros for the smallest engine (a200) that means almost double the price, when the a3 or 1 series start at about 26000, of course equipped with smaller engines, but I guess you could really get a bmw x1 instead of the a class, which is a whole class above🤷♂️
40k is way to much for a car.,
Great video!
I didn't know that a renault engine would be that reliable
Thank you for explaining the mild hybrid so clearly. I’ve just bought an A class and was not sure how it assisted the vehicle.
It’s such a great car to drive and far more zippier than I imagined.
No worries! Thank you for watching! 🙏
Thought it was easier to strap cameras to the car and go for a drive! 😎 easy to show how it works!
Drive safely
Alan. xx
@user-Janine-331 ah nice! 👌🏼
I’m sure you’ll love it!
11:10 prime example of Cost Cutting, you can clearly tell the space left behind is an afterthought. It's pretty bad cause the touch pad we actually well designed with proper haptics
Thanks for the update Nick - great to hear you are enjoying your new A Class!
The fuel economy I am getting from my 2023 A class is outstanding. The average since April is 52mpg but on a 200 mile run down the A68 from Scotland today I got 66mpg. Wow - better than any diesel car I have owned.
Currently in the middle of making a video on this topic actually! Coming soon!
It is pretty good!
Glad you love the videos! Working on the next one as we speak! 😊
At least you’ve got the car now! 🙌
Ah amazing thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! 😇😇
Nick, we have a 2020 GLE 300d Premium Plus, we learned so much about it from your fabulous videos, thank you
It is currently in for repair under warranty and Mercedes gave us a brand new A200 Executive Sport as a courtesy car and I LOVE it, have been zipping around in Sport mode - don’t want to give it back, you made a great choice!
Ah awesome thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! 🙏
Yeah it’s a super car! Hope yours is fixed soon!
Dear Nick and sure all commenter guys;
First of all, thank you.
😅 what’s that
Well glad you enjoy the videos!
No not yet but something is booked in with BMW, I’m hoping there to be a video this year so keep an eye out! 🙏
@@npoleary :) I wanted to loop in everyone who commented and joined the chat as well!:)
Ah haha fair enough 😅
Yeah hoping to cover the BMW soon so keep an eye out! 😜
@@npoleary thanks :)
I havé a close to full optional ‘22 A35 and that car makes me smile every day.
At times I like to look into the garage just to smile at my new AMG rag top… Classy
Cheers!
Ah that’s over 50MPG, that’s really good! 🤓
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you! 👍🏼

Mercedes Benz has not Renewed..........its Tires-Wheels😢
for 20-twenty years, they are always the Same and we are Bored😏🙄😒
Audi, DS, Toyota, Land Rover, Tesla, Alls renew their Wheels...Not Only The Car❤
My A220d is shocking..soon as I hit 8k gearbox became really jerky..not smooth when changing down and sometimes struggle to decide what gear it needs to be in..been back to the dealer 4 times..shocking car
@christopherdean2982 oh no! I would definitely express your concern if you don’t think something’s right. No auto gearbox should be jerky!
Thanks Sven! 🙏🤓
Ah nice you’re going to Cornwall? I was there last year, beautiful place! 👍🏼
Ah interesting! Always fascinating to hear different specs in other countries!
Oh no! Hopefully they can check it out and sort it! Fingers crossed!
No help forthcoming from Mercedes. Which means I shall be over £600 poorer come the repair. 🙄🙄@@npoleary
Really good detail Nick, thank you. I enjoy a 2 year old CLA Premium at the moment. Great tec, and very good economy these days too. Keep up the videos
Thank you! Ah very nice! 🙏🤓
Ah awesome! Thanks for watching! 🙏🙏
Thank you! Ah very nice! Good to get the roof back! 👀
Great video. Definitely interested to see the dashcam video you want to do. It’ll be a great explanation for sure.
Nick…enjoyed the free form conversation (although, you are fantastic doing the scripted ones). Happy to see you enjoying the vehicle.
Thank you!
Ah I see no sadly not the touch directions are all pre-set. I’ve not seen any settings to change it :(
Thanks for sharing your driving experience with us. I have an A class of 2018 with car play, but I must use a cable. If I want to convert in a wireless platform, what I have to do? Thanks in advance. Regards
Thank you! 🙏
Mercedes bought out wireless CarPlay on this new facelift but I already have videos on my channel for previous gen models. They are only wired but you can make them wireless: ruclips.net/video/lRhL-DXVL3g/видео.html
@@npoleary thanks a lot Nick 🙏🏻
I’ve done just under 1,000 miles in my A200 AMG Line Premium Nick 👍🏻 find those grab handles are fingerprint magnets & also have an annoying creak coming from the rear left side while driving, also keeping those AMG wheels clean from break dust is a nightmare, other than that no issues. The engine is so quite you can barely hear it at times which feels odd, sport mode livens it up but it’s no slouch even in comfort mode 😃
Ah nice! 🤓
Handily I don’t leave many fingerprints but being a satin finish I can see that it might in some cases.
Creak? On mine its the camera cover that pops out for calibration when it reaches 15-17mph.Does this every time I drive it.
Great review, nice and chilled and thorough.
I personally love this car, it’s pricey but it’s solid.
Thank you! 🙏
Thanks for another awesome video Nick. I appreciate your honesty. All your useful tips have helped me to fall in love with my A class 😊
I know defo I love mine! Glad to hear you enjoy yours too!
@@npoleary for USA they discontinued the A class for 2024.
Ah okay, interesting. Wonder what’ll take it’s place?

Oooo nice! Make sure you get the performance exhaust if it’s available over there 😎
Thank you! 🙏
What is the gesture @15:08 regards people in your blindspot?
Hey MizraPaul, gesture? Just indicating where the blind spot would be 👍🏼
Typically rear left or rear right of the car, it’s quite cool as it shows a red warning triangle in your mirrors if someone is there. I think it’s active above 10 or so miles an hour or something around that area 👍🏼
Feel that MB should just remove the headrest for the rare seats. They are not serious seat in the first place, and for occasional use, headrest is not likely the top of the complaint anyhow :)
Haha, lots of car brands are copying Mazda left right and center. I was divided between this and Mazda 3, and I am happy I chose the Mazda.
Nice! What colour did you go for? 👍🏼
@@npoleary I went with Jet black, the most beautiful metallic black in the market.
Nice! Oh yeah that does look the part!
I have also the ambient lightning in the door with the amg package on my A class from 2019 so it has to be possible 🤷♂️
I guess so! 🤓
I remember there being an option when I first covered the A-Class on my channel, there was an option for a trim and I remember it was different in countries round the world.
Thank you!
Yes it does assist with pulling away to, basically filling in the gaps of turbo lag etc
Ah nice!
I did last year 🤓

Too bright reflection on the inside windows at night... But Yeah .. Love your car.. Not a fan of the start stop also.. The gls had it but I did not use it.. More power without out it....

Hi Nick. Great video as usual. I have a 3 year old A200 sport, love it, but somehow have managed to mute the indicator sound. Have tried to find a volume increase but no luck. Any ideas please? David

Oh really? I haven’t seen a setting for that so I’d defo contact Mercedes, hopefully they can check it out for you!
A really good video Nick! Really good details about the new a class
I’m personal really exited to see the new dashcam on the a class, and see how It compares to my a class from 2020.
Love the feature however such a shame it’s not available to start on its own In my country.
Thank you! 🙏 yeah me too! I’ll have to fork out £200 somewhen to activate it from the Mercedes me store 😅
It’s on my list of potential future videos! 🤓
Great to hear you're enjoying your new Mercedes Nick. Interesting demonstration of how the mild hybrid tech works as well 😎
Thank you! Yes it's quite clever how the tech works 🤓
I’m glad you didn’t go for the multi beam led headlights because it’s great when) it works however 70% of the time. You constantly get this feature is unavailable due the camera restrictions cold dark mornings blah blah. And this is when I absolutely need it ffs.
Hi Nick
Just bought a B200 AMG premium plus.
I would expect the features to be more in a higher luxury car 🤓
I aim to cover some more content on my car soon!
It is basically the alarms for modern Mercedes (usually exterior and interior alarms on cars) but with the ability to notify on the Mercedes me app too 🤓
There’s also the actual Guard 360 Package you can buy on the Mercedes me Store what I’ve seen, with a one touch button to help recover the cover in the event of a car being stolen.
Hi Nick.
Great video as always.
How do you find the 7 speed gearbox in your A class. Ive seen some reviews saying it can be dim witted at slower speeds.
Cheers.
Thank you! 🙏
I love it! However as I’ve slowly started expanding to other car makes and models I sadly haven’t drive anything in the same line up yet. So BMW, Audi, VW (Auto, although I did review the manual against my car)
It’s good but before offering my thoughts, I’d love to try out others for comparison 🙏
It's actually due a service soon so I think I'll do a one year review or something 👀
Think they're also doing a software update too on a recall for steering or something. I've heard Mercedes are updating some software on a few models where they think something might need updating as a pre-caution but otherwise all good!
My partner's car also had a similar update too (not a Mercedes couldn't convince her 😂)
looking to get one of these soon
Awesome! 🙌
What colour do you think you’ll go for?
@npoleary I'm thinking black or blue because it would look amazing with matte texture ppf. I'm going for the saloon body type.
Hi Many thanks for the video. Do you know if its possible to set the Eco mode as default? I've to change every time from comfort to Eco but i was wondering if it can be set by default to Eco instead of Comfort driving modus.
No sadly not, all models of car have to revert to their default mode so in Mercedes it’s Comfort. You can change is straight afterward though 🤓
Hey Nick! So happy that you’re enjoying your new car, the inside looks so mint😍😍
Haha thank you! 🙏🙏
I own a C300 Sport and when i was on a long run to and from the lakes the other week i put the car into eco for the first time and it did that and i wondered why now i know !! So thanks for the vid covering that subject cheers Nick 👍👍

Ah awesome! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes it’s tricky to explain mild hybrid so thought I’d strap all the cameras to the car and go for a drive! 😛
High Nick, Great videos, I have an A Class, (AMG Package) I cant workout the purpose of the different themes you can select, what is the difference between them and the selection of Styles and Displays, have you done a feature on this. Regards Keith
What year is your A-Class? Is it the facelift one from this year or the one before 🤓
2019. Just had its 1st MOT
I have! Got loads of videos on Mercedes on my channel with more coming in the future!

Great video and excellent explanation of the mild hybrid technology. Thanks for that !
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
I haven’t tested any myself so at this point so I’d probably recommend to get the Mercedes one, they do sell them if you get in contact with them, they’ll let you know costs etc
Thank you!

No worries! 🤓
🙏thanks Nick!
Why no mention of the B class, my B250e premium is superb and no problem folding rear seats down! Mercedes should keep making the B class it is ideal for family and seniors..
Yeah it’s very similar! This video is on my car (the one I own 🤓)
Mercedes do B-Class, GLA & GLB which are virtually the same car but just more space on the inside along with different styles and similar engines.
I’ve never had to clean mine 👍🏼
However I’ve got a car on test from another manufacturer at the moment who’s camera is exposed all the time where it does not go in and out and I point this out in the review for potential buyers to know 👍🏼
This is my third A class A180 executive line.
This car is so fun to drive.
Hey nick, i love this channel!!
Do you know if mbux 1 will have CarPlay in fullscreen, i really don’t like the wasted screen right now
Thank you! Aiming to cover the Premium Car Manufacturers going forward but with added Mercedes stuff as it’s my daily car! 👀
Sadly no it can’t as it’s available in two screen sizes. Here’s the snippet I send to people:
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay.
Thanks for answering my question Nick!
Haha no worries! 🤓👍🏼
Hello Nick
Thank you for your videos, it's very helpful.
@@npoleary thank you so much, you're really great
Hi Nick I have the saloon version of this a 180 in premium spec where is the cruise control on it I see the speed limiter but not cruise control!
It will be in the same place on the steering wheel, there’ll be cruise and LIM that you can toggle between.
If you’re based somewhere else, spec varies though so may differ (sorry hard to tell where everyone is from on RUclips)
What is the best engine for Aclass 2.0 220 or 250? Both of them they are not build BT renault yes?
So A-Class, GLA, CLA, B-Clss, GLB etc
GLC is based on the C-Class so is a bit different 🤓
But I’ve seen videos on utube and the GLC suv have ambient lights coming from the vents and they don’t on mine
Not a problem I’m in the uk

Thank you! Ah yes I’ve noticed that
My Vauxhall Astra could open windows on the other side of the car park 😂 (bit unnecessary).
I can add it to the list of potential future videos, this multimedia system here is exactly the same except it uses a portrait screen: ruclips.net/video/G1tQ06BGOx4/видео.htmlsi=F-BIYLfqofOZgi94
Oh yes do turn the pin off, it’ll get in the way! Once you’re logged in tap on the profile usually at the top and look for a menu called “Access Protection”. Just toggle it off so you don’t have to type it in every time. First thing I did in my new car!

Apple CarPlay and Android are standard on it now which is good 👍🏼
@@npoleary Nick, would you say that the dark windows are a must have? All the videos I see have those. Particularly with the white car it seems something one would really want.
Quite a few cars have the darken rear windows which I quite like to be honest 🤓
They’re not a must have, but I like them. I’m pretty sure it’s standard in the UK though on certain trims.
I've had an A250 for a little over 3 months (roughly 2500 miles) and the one thing I notice is how weak the windscreen is. I've accumulated multiple "pits/chips" in my windshield after only such a short time. I also don't drive aggressive or tailgate at all. h
Had a VW for 5.5 years and this was not an issue at all.
@@npoleary thanks!
Great review, very informative 👍
Thank you! 🙏
Oh they all do this now (mine the same)
Cameras like this one are tucked away above the numberplate to keep them clean etc.
Do you have a video of Mercedes doing detailing on an A class?
Now that would have been cool to see a behind the scenes video of them cleaning my car for the first time! But then it would have spoilt me taking the cover off when I picked it up 😂
I am potentially going to cover something like this in the future but I doubt Mercedes would let me film behind the scenes on that one so might be something at home. Open to it though! It’s in the list of potential future videos!
Another excellent video, Nick. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! 🙏
Had my a class 23 reg about 2 months now , it did remind me not to forget my phone when it was charging but doesn’t seem to do it now , any idea why ?
I think it was called ProActivity in settings
So it can be toggled on/off in there
From memory it’ll around the area of
Settings
System
Voice Assistant or something similar?
Great video Nick! Where’s your black T-shirt! 😅
Thank man! Haha it honestly was too hot when I filmed! 😅
I’d have to stop to at least use the toilet a few times 😅😅
To be honest any diesel will be really good for that journey, that’s what they’re for.
Hey Nick I'm sorry I'm late in watching this video! What do you think of the interior space between the new A-Class and the new CLA facelift?
No worries!
I have covered the CLA already in a separate video, have you seen it? 🤓
CLA has slightly less headroom in the rear due to the sloping coupe styled roof 👍🏼
So I literally have to sit further back or my knees hit the bottom of the steering wheel 😂 So I kind of have to
PS: Glad you love the videos and thank you for watching!
Do you notice a big difference in the speakers from the Executive line to premium? Thanks
Not a huge amount but on Premium with the extra subwoofer in the back it packs more of a punch. So it’ll go louder and retain the quality.
Coming from GLA to A-Class, it is slightly smaller and lower down to the ground so depends how much boot space you need or don’t mind losing.
And going to petrol it’ll cost a little bit more to run day to day: ruclips.net/video/OAYWKrKu7kI/видео.htmlsi=Rfr6UoQ23m5OQJj5
There’s my economy test if you’re curious. But keep an eye out Friday for the next one 😜
Hi boss, i love to watch your videos but im really confused in between the hatchback & the saloon. What do u think?
I guess it’s down to user preference in the shape 🤓
I covered the previous model (before the facelift) here: ruclips.net/video/q7KXrrfoEGg/видео.html
Hello Mr Nick, can I retrofit the blindspot detectors on my a class 2019?
No sadly not Mercedes don’t retrofit items like that. Mercedes dealerships aren’t allowed to as they’re apparently only allowed to sell cars as they’re described on their spec sheets.
@@npoleary guess I need to buy a new s class then
My question was that can your a class do the lane changing assist because my old a class had it and now I recently switched from an a class to an cla and the cla did not have the lane changing assist
Lane Change Assist in Mercedes is only found on certain models and you have to have the Driving Assistance Package. Usually only an option on certain specs so it depends if that was selected or not when it was new 🤓
@@npoleary does your a class have the lane changing assist
It won’t have Lane Change Assist, but it has Active Lane Keeping Assist
My local Mercedes said that the lane changing assist now only comes in higher models like the s class
That makes sense
Lane Change Assist is very rare, but cool for people who do lots of motorway drives
I have driving 25k miles with my A250e AMG . Driving 70% of time electric.,😊
I have slipstream mode on my c220d.
Am looking an opinion on making for taxi car and in 2-3 years hitting 200k miles will be worthy buying ?
Did you design, order and await your car or just select a model in the showroom?
I selected one in the showroom 🤓
Most cars available from what I’ve heard are a two week wait at Mercedes now 😎
There are of course some models which take longer but most are pretty quick!
So at start/stop part, if you disable it, would still drop the rpm to zero, while the accelerator is released?
No if you disable the start/stop tech it switches that but off so the engine will stay on. Just like a normal car, useful if you need the A/C on!
Does this model come with adaptive cruise control?
It’s not on my car but you can order it 🤓
It’s called the driving assistance package:

Hello, how’s the petrol consumption like? And how far can you travel per tank?
Hey zhiyaoo, that’s for watching however make sure you’re subscribed to my channel (it’s free! All it does is notify you if you turn notifications on)
I posted this exact topic 10 days ago 🤓 a very in-depth video!
adaptive cruise control starts from what package?
This one: ruclips.net/video/m3A8H74vMLQ/видео.html
@@npoleary thanks!
@RobSinox no worries! 🤓
I pick up my A200 saloon on Tuesday it's doesn't have the same sport seats as yours. Hopefully I like it as much as my glb premium plus. 🙄🙂
Ah yes I remember that, the saloon has slightly different head rests. Not sure why but…on the saloon you can adjust the head rest, so it actually has more adjustment than the hatchback 🤓
