You get a glimpse of it by his stream commentary on unranked, and also in his occasional Summit commentating. Having it be explicit, like this, is really cool though
I imagine, in n0ne's head, he's cycling through the ideas he's explained here at a much faster pace when he's playing than when he's teaching. This is all very fascinating in any case
Same. We are so lucky to have him. Bobby Scar’s passion for melee is so pure - and so simple. As he says, Melee gave him life, so he only wants to pay it back somehow. He really does live and breathe it. When I was new to the scene, it was that raw passion that I was able to really hold onto with both hands, and just get led along by his confidence and nutty musings. So sick. Honourable mention: every other top player, commentator or smash person from the community that basically streams now, haha
N0ne, you talking about digital vs. analogue changed the way I think about all video games. It's a really interesting concept that I had never really thought of until you talked about it. Slightly similar to projectile/hitscan in shooters I guess.
@@Thierce instead of there being a set number of options regardless of controller feedback (digital) There are many ways of doing the same thing based specifically on small changes in controller feedback (analog) at least that's how I see it.
@@Thierce exactly, opens up worlds of options on what appears to be the same approach, same thing on defense, there’s no set options, the game is exactly what you make it
Dude, I KNEW n0ne had this kind of knowledge. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, man. Every single thing you said I’ve found to be 100% true plus some things I hadn’t thought of.
I love your thought process being verbally presented. Gives a much better and deeper understanding of melee. I'm aware of a lot of the stuff you mentioned but I also play like scar - I just autopilot lol.
LITERALLY godlike content. I haven't really sat down and studied the game for self improvement in a while and often it would take hours to nail one concept. I felt like I learned more about Falcon's optimal playstyle in this 20 minute video than I did spending hours learning tech back when I ACTIVELY played years ago. Would genuinly love to see more content like this.
The gathering information part is so key to this game. I try to tell my friends the same thing, information is way more valuable than the kill if you have an advantage. The more information you gather, the farther you can take your damage output. It's the only reason I can sometimes snake games from people that are clearly better than I am. Those 2 to 3 interactions where that information gathering shined through can really tie it all together.
as a student of life, i absolutely love when im learning something, and the person teaching me makes sure that i understand the point theyre trying to make. you're a really good coach n0ne, i had no idea! awesome stuff!
fascinating how None just sees the game at a different level, bobby is not a bad player by any means but all his mistakes are so obvious to None its crazy, very cool
I haven't been paying much attention to the scene lately so it's crazy to hear n0ne talk this much For so long he was just this guy who would show up and, with unparalleled style, own everyone who wasn't a top 10 player, look knowingly at the camera, then disappear without a word. I'll miss that old n0ne but it's great to hear his perspectives. (Also kinda funny to hear Scar being talked to like he's a lifetime SF player learning Melee.)
This was so amazing, to hear you describe the game opened my eyes and made me excited to keep grinding. That car analogy was so simple but really helped me think of the game as analog rather than digital. I loved this man, thank you.
N0ne was giving solid advice and i think making the street fighter comparisons really seemed to connect with scar. and the “analogue game” theory as well
good shit man. you two seemed so confrontational on the scar and toph show. its good to see you guys have reconciled and it looks like hes learning a lot
Man. You can really tell how intelligent n0ne is. Not because he knows the things. But because he clearly thought hard about these enough to verbalize it and teach someone.
Watching n0ne’s play and it seeming crazy, but also knowing in the back of my mind it takes incredible knowledge of the game to make work, and then finally seeing/hearing the details of how he sees things is so satisfying. What a god
Holy shit man I didn't know this vid was for real when it said coaching! All of the advice in this video is actually extremely useful for more characters than just Falcon and even for other fighting games too! Definitely would love to see more of this or even set reviews too.
You're really good at explaining issues and how to fix them. I usually only play sheik but I wanna learn falcon and a lot of the issues Scar was having I ran into as well so this vid helped a lot. Hope to see more vids like this!
11:11 is one of the biggest things for me when playing/fighting a good falcon. It's the most nuance timing mixups that can really make falcon super scary. Love the coaching.
You know, I don’t watch a ton of nones stream admittedly, but it really hadn’t occurred to me that he understands the game in such a cohesive and lucid way
Korean/Japanese Tekken has a term for the timing mixup with attacks/movement, they call it "delay catch". It's a massive part of neutral and movement in both games :)
Wow PLEASE do more of these. This was so informative and helpful. It’s also nice hearing stuff I already do get validated! I’m gonna go drop a sub and a gifted sub because this was so helpful.
its so weird when i watch scar in melee, i also watch a minecraft youtuber named scar, and they remind me of eachother but at the same time are total opposites. interesting diachotomy
I think the drastic increase in shield grabbing is because of players coming over from Smash4/Ultimate and Melee's online presence in the last calendar year.
makes the previous none-scar interactions so much funnier none's understanding of the game is so many layers deeper than scar's, who doesn't fully get advantage states and avoiding shield grabs...?
Just from what little I know of Scar and his approach to learning, I’m pretty sure his game plan was to approach this from a “I know nothing, I’m here to learn” mindset. I mean yeah he could tell none all the things he does and doesn’t understand specifically, OR he can ask a simple question, let None rant, and receive a master class of knowledge. But I agree this did add a whole new dimension to the saga :P
my future as a coach/immigrant seems bright.
That had me rollin'.
I learned a lot, thank you for the vid.
I never thought I'd see the day, this was so enriching to falcon players and the melee community, and to humans as a whole
Not gonna lie, as a life long Ganon & now Falcon player, i'd legit throw you some $$ for some coaching, even if brief. That something you'd consider?
This is awesome content. It's fun and informative.
Seeing none go full nerd is crazy. I had no idea how much was going through his head while playing
i know xD that was amazing
All these kids out here sleepin on big brain n0ne
It all shows in his play rather than big talk ;)
It is truly a testament to both how hard melee is and how insane its top players are, especially players that have a playstyle like n0ne

He‘s getting back? Awesome
I just can't agree. I really liked Mufasa 😭
Honestly Scar has the attitude to make it big in the competitive scene. He is humble and passionate, and that will get him far.
I've been waiting my whole life for n0ne to share his thoughts on melee like this. i could listen to him or mango talk about the game for days
