I mtn bike and ride a motorcycle, didn't even know a thing like this existed, awesome! One thing I must mention though is the strap doesn't shift the weight at all, it merely secures the bicycle better, strapping something down does not change the center of mass, as the bike itself has not moved at all (same reason why standing on your pegs on a dirt bike doesn't lower your center of gravity)

I have one. Got it for a birthday present a few years back. I love it! The only issue is that you feel it below speeds of 5kph. At speed, you don't even know it is there except for passing cars slowing to take a photo. (Hopefully it is the passenger taking the photo) Add some panniers and you can carry your bicycle gear then stow your helmet and moto gear when cycling.

I once met a couple on a motorbike just traveling through. They had honda sport bike with fairing off plus some kind of side car attached and wheelchair on back of the side car. At first I though it is a bicycle so I stopped by to check it out. But it was a wheelchair. I think it is pretty cool that that man did all of this just to take his disabled wife with him on bike tour. I'm sure you will meet lot of puzzled people asking stupid questions like I did with that couple :-)

I first saw something like this nearly 10 years ago. The guy was riding out of the carpark at the trails. I had to do a double take. A few years later he came into work and i quized him about it (and took a picture). He said he doesn't own a car so the motorbike is his only form of transport. His rack was custom made from a thule bike rack a custom frame and then straps to hold it all down. It looks to sit further forward than this. It also has the rear wheel supported on the rack rather than the crank arm. He has it mounted on a Ktm 990 supermoto

Sorry, but the strap does not move the center of gravity forwards. Physics doesn't work like that, the center of gravity is always in the mass center of the combined mass of a system. Said in another way: The center of gravity can't be moved with the bicycle still in the same place.

      Exactly

    • @dagosh88
      @dagosh88 2 года назад +1

The center of gravity is dependent on the spot the weight is applied. If you strap most of the weight is applied on the front fork, otherwise it will be applied at the pedal.
I have this rack and I can tell you it makes a huge difference if you don't strap it tight enough.

I made my own with an old Thule tray mounted to the passenger peg and the givi sidecase rack using some steel. I still have access to my top box and remaining side case for storing my clothes and helmet during a mountain bike ride.......helps to have a Vstrom which is physically a larger motorcycle and can accommodate a 29'er mountain bike

I started mountainbiking a while back, but my local trail centre is like 15 miles away on hilly roads which is unfeasible if I just want a quick day out. No public transport to get there, and I only have a motorbike. I thought this would be impossible, but maybe not, and honestly 300 bucks is perfectly reasonable for something like this when they want 400+ for a topbox.

There's also apparently a bike rack for a Ferrari 458.
And yes definitely for motorcycles, my friend took so many pictures when they went to race in Malaysia.
Madlads, rode their bikes there for a race, rode back after the race, reaching back at 3am on the day of an exam. Wish I was strong enough at the time to join them.
And yes that Ferrari with the bikes can get into any car park just because it's so low.
I want supercars and superbikes with bike mounts.

I'm always mounting things to my FZ-07 that normal people probably wouldn't.
This fits exactly that. I take my onewheel places on the bike. I strap my surfboard to my stunt cage.
    Pretty sweet!
I'd bet a front wheel holder is possible. And just let the rear wheel roll?

I was thinking about the front wheel holder for quite some time, but I cannot escape the thoughts about uncontrollable wiggling of the bike. Plus, the bicycle tires and other parts are not made for such speeds. A little tow-cart with road-legal tires, maybe? Also, in Europe you would have to have an extension of the rear lights and licence plate holder (yes I know, Europe legislation isn´t much friendly about it :D ). Try to look on our old czech motorcycle with such cart - Jawa with páv

The weight of the linkage + drivetrain is probably better more towards the front of the motorbike for stability.

I love bikes. I also love bikes. This is perfect. It seems so dumb and ludicrous. I've always wanted something like this. I'm an endurance road biker, so for me, there was never a need to ride two and from the 'trailhead'. I'm also my own mechanic, but there's always a time where you eventually need to carry the bike somewhere with some more luggage than it can fit, or faster than you can ride it.

I sort of have this romantic idea that pulling a mono-wheel trailer behind a motorcycle is the solution for anything that riders collectively wish they could always take with them. There's only one or two manufacturers that have ever had a decent solution, one of which is a private small time company which is always backed up with orders. Kipmoto SherpaX trailers. Look them up. Toss anything in that trailer, slide a pin through the rear axle, off we go to pretty much anywhere on or off pavement.

Front wheel mount looks floppy just mounting to a piece of flat plate, a fixed 15mm axle that the wheel slots onto would be nice (obviously not road compatible)

There are a lot more cons apart from the weight transfer.
    - If you're not carefull you can go around banging and scratching other vehicles, even get stuck and have and accident.
    - You will need a sidebags to change clothes when switching from one "bike" to the other. So even more weight in the bag and more complexity.
    - It's impossible for this to be legal in my conuntry (Spain) and I'm kind of glad it is.

    • @SenorDelSol
      @SenorDelSol 2 года назад +1

I'm sad it is illegal in Spain, but yes, max. 25 cm out of the back of the bike... I don't think you will scratch anything when riding, the weight of a bag holding your bicycle riding kit is negligible.

It seems like a toy for adult kids. Do you remember while being a kid if you got for example a toy car with a trailer and another stuff mounting on it? It was way more cool than just single toy car ;)
For me who is pretty much in motocycling and cycling both, it looks just a little bit useless, and take a moto gear while being sweat isn't biggest problem. Where to store your moto gear when your ride a bicycle? Where to store bicycle helmet and bicycle shoes and other clothes when you ride a motorbike? Next thing is in order to install this rack I should remove a top case mount with additional brake light - so it is overcomplicated for real life.
And what about road traffic law? is it legal?
Since besides bikes and motorbike I have a regular car with rear trailer hanger - its waaaaaay easier for me to set thule bicycle rack. It just takes a few second and than just a minute to attach a bicycle.

I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

It's sh***ty solution. Also it's crazy solution. )) If someone need this, than it useful. So, let it be.
As for me, this solutions isn't good enough.
    What can be improved:
    1. Easy way to mount bike more secure and avoid unwanted wiggling is to use two straps. Single strap can slide on the central point. Two straps can be connected to center or a bit closer to handlebars to make construction more solid. Note: strap is a strap. It will always be a bit flexible.
    2. Also I'd recommend to move it as much as possible closer to the rider, but check that it doesn't disturb you while riding.
    3. GIVI accessories are various. But, they have limitation in the aspect of possible load weight. As an option you can find someone, who will make solid luggage rack for your bike with additional mounting points and diagonal frame to the point where passenger's footstep mounted to the subframe. There will be required a bit longer bolt and appropriate spacer.
