    I think it's important to note that the waves on Assateague Island are almost always stronger than they are in Ocean City. Also the ocean drops off much quicker than it does in Ocean City. So if you're not a good swimmer you may not want to venture out too far especially on a rough surf day.

    Question for anyone with experience. I’ve been on the Maryland OSV countless times, but with a TRUE 4x4 with 4-low gearing. I recently picked up a 2003 Yukon Denali with all-wheel drive only. Should I chance it (lol) or wait until I get another 4x4? I was thinking of just airing down to 10-12 psi, but not looking to get stuck for the first time. Thanks and GREAT CONTENT!!!

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  9 месяцев назад +2

      AWD is fine, it's all about clearance and airing down. I did another video on "tips and tricks" check that video out. It's pretty helpful because I talk about clearance.

      @@ReelJayB HIGHLY appreciate it. I was “thinking” it might work, but slight incline.. just after the lift gate looked like it could get a little hairy. 99% chance I give it a shot and see what happens. I’ll post the results here. Thanks! Just subbed👍

    Thank you for the great information! Do you happen to know if Toyota Highlander AWD is allowed?

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  4 года назад

      AWD is allowed, however, ground clearance is what is going to get your vehicle stuck. Just make sure the bumper and plastic guard under the bumper have ample clearance ( I believe 8" from the ground).

    • @echernosky
      @echernosky 4 года назад +1

      BeachFishRepeat thanks! One more if you don’t mind. Is the small jack that comes with the highlander going to be okay to get the permit or does it require a larger jack?

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  4 года назад +1

      @@echernosky the jack that came with it should be fine. Just double check with the Park Service when getting an OSV pass. Good luck and have fun out there!

    • @jackhaugh
      @jackhaugh 4 года назад +1

      Dude I surf fish in DE frequently and have a surf fishing vehicle permit for it. I’ve seen countless AWD vehicles get stuck, spin the hell out of their wheels, dig in even deeper, and eventually burst into flames. I mean total conflagration, like something out of the Bible.
      I’d also consider getting a highlift tractor type jack. The little bottle jack that comes with Toyota’s is great on pavement, but you may end up dug in and need to lift your vehicle much higher than what a small jack is capable of doing.

I don’t think I’ll be getting an osv permit, or camping since it’s last min and I wasn’t aware of all the rules & regulations until now. But I wanted to be on the beach and grill for the day and leave by sunset. Is that allowed? Thanks for the videos! They have been very informative.

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching my videos!! Charcoal grills aren't allowed on the state side of the beach (I'm not sure if the Federal side allows them in the non OSV area, I would assume not). If you ask the Rangers they will let you know. Depending the size of your kids, the bay side of the island is always fun. If you make your first right on the federal side, it's called Bayside Dr. They have grills there you can use. Just get there early!

      I don't think an altima will make it across the sand hahaha Check out this other video I did for all of Assateague ruclips.net/video/P1YuHHP5nao/видео.html Just follow the directions to the state park. From there you can walk right on and fish from the beach. Just double check the rules before you go, I think you can only fish outside the boundaries of the lifeguard towers. Good luck!

    So the cost of staying one day and overnight (in the bullpen) is about $175.00. Right? I used to come often in the mid-1980s with a friend and his Jeep Scrambler. Since retiring I was considering coming back on a regular basis with my Ford 4X4. But Had no idea it would cost so much. No yearly or seasonal passes available for less ??

    • @ReelJayB

      Correct on the price. Going once ca. Be expensive. You may qualify for a senior pass which I believe is a lifetime pass. Not sure on the price, just call the national park service and they could help you.
