    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  Месяц назад +1

      There's no way to compile the focus stack down to a single jpeg in-camera unfortunately, but once you've shot a focus stack bracketed shots, it's very simple to automate the stacking in Photoshop or similar 😊

    Another fantastic video Emily. Off topic question, just wanted to ask some advice on the computer setup you use for post processing. I have just got into photography, mostly from watching your enthusiastic videos and recently purchased the LUMIX S5 mk2. However I have a 2015 IMac that will not open the Panasonic .RW2 files. So it now looks like I will have to buy a new computer system too 😱. Any help would be greatly appreciated.👍

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  Месяц назад

      If you stay with Mac I'd highly recommend any of the M1 / M1 pro silicone chips. Lightning fast for photo and video editing. I have the 2021 macbook pro m1 myself and it does a great job.
      As for raw file compatibility, it may be your editing software that's the issue. I know Adobe likes to gatekeep the new raw file compatibility so we have to keep subscribing, but if you have an up to date copy of Lightroom it should at least be able to open your files even if it isn't too fast at editing them.

    • @ashleymears8072
      @ashleymears8072 Месяц назад

      @@MicroFourNerds Aw thanks so much for your reply Emily. Yes I was wondering whether MacBook would be capable or if IMac would be better choice. As for software probably would go with Lightroom as it seems the cheaper option. It is for personal use rather than any professional ambition.

      I keep getting conflicting advice. Some say 75% then 80% and others going all the way to 85% which is where the zebras max out on the camera.
      I can see the waveform flattening out around 90%, give or take because its so small on the screen. And, I just did an experiment in the garden with fading light where I set the zebras to 85%. In Resolve this exposed very well. I may have just answered my own question but I've read so much about white being 61% and never going above 80% but this all may be for using vLog Lite.

      I originally thought they were just diving through the hole to the actual water 😂🙈 it's a little bucket that is black and padded with rubber (and filled with fish!)

    In the rare cases where I use burst (wildlife/sports), I've never felt the need to go beyond 10 fps (20 with pre-burst) with the G9 I or II, and even the I's 0.4 sec was more than enough "pre." Who wants to sort through dozens, much less hundreds of images to get the "perfect" one?! That said, that Kingfisher is one fast bird! BtW, that nictitating membrane is a cool feature, but it does make the bird look like it has cataracts, so there's another reason to use burst--too many times, an otherwise great shot is spoiled by that creepy effect.
    I also rarely use the mechanical shutter. Rolling shutter's never been a problem and why put the duty cycles on a moving part if you don't need to? The trend is toward electronic anyway (and it will be great when global is the norm).

    5:30 When bringing the shoot into a city, especially a tunnel, make sure your BTS camera is positioned to get the police and firemen as they arrest and extinguish. BTS camera should be waterproof.

      I know, the original G9 does too. My OM1 is on a holiday without me unfortunately, I've loaned it to my friend while she's in Canada photographing bears. It would have made for a great additional camera for the kingfisher shoot!

    9:25 this makes no sense to me. This camera has autofocus with bird detection. Why do you need a focus stick...and why does the DoF being shallow matter? Are you using manual focus??

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  25 дней назад

      Of course! It happens in a fraction of a second. No camera would be able to capture it it'd probably focus off to infinity and miss it

    • @HokKan
      @HokKan 24 дня назад

      @@MicroFourNerds any flagship camera's autofocus system should be able to respond within a fraction of a second. For how fast modern mirrorless AF systems can react today, that's an eternity. There's no reason why the G9ii isn't able to do the same.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  24 дня назад

      @HokKan you are wrong in this case I'm afraid. No camera could get it unless you limited the range of the auto focus to the specific spot near the diving hole. The camera would automatically focus to infinity when there are no birds, and at such a long focal length, so close to where the bird is diving, no camera on the planet would be able to react in time. It would focus through it actually.

      @@MicroFourNerds exactly, limit the range of the auto focus.

    Emily I don't think its a good idea to promote Evoto software. They charge to to export jpegs. We are moving now to a model for everything that you won't own anything. Sony is now doing this with their cameras you need a subscription now for some features to work. Toyota and BMW wanted to do subscriptions just to turn on the feature to allow you to turn on heated seats in your own car.
    I don't even agree with Adobe subscription but at least its use it all you want if you do shoot a lot.
    This is a really bad path we are going in you will own nothing and be happy.

      I definitely get your point! I so miss a good old "buy it once" piece of software (why I love Final Cut for video) But I do think the way Evoto does it is really quite interesting. If you're a casual user who only needs the odd photo touching up, it could cost you literally pennies over a year for all the great features.
      It definitely won't be for everyone, but I think it's a really interesting way to access so much advanced stuff for cheap
