In Teil 3 der Serie über das Sd.Kfz.251/7 Ausf. D von Dragon im Maßstab 1/35 zeige ich euch wie ich das Modell lackiere und altere. Ich wollte mal gründlich ins Detail gehen, also verzeiht mir bitte die Länge des Videos! Vielleicht kann der eine oder andere sich was nützliches abschauen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series Michael. The format and content were spot on. It will give modellers the confidence to attempt new techniques without feeling intimidated or thinking they must have all the latest products and tools. It just goes to show what can be achieved with a modest array of supplies and a straight forward approach. I'm sure the editing must take forever but am sure a lot of guys will be very grateful of the content Good community service
thank you very much mark! it was and still is my goal to provide inspiration and ideas, such series are a great way to demonstrate a lot and show how i think about a project and how i approach everything. it took basically a week to edit, upload and make the subtitles, but it is also very rewarding to know that it gets actually watched by people who appreciate.

Mein Gott diese Ketten! Ich bekomm schon mit den Revell 1:72 Ketten die Krise. Aber das ist ja unglaublich! Meine Hochachtung dafür! Das Modell ist auch wirklich toll geworden.

Nature is so wise that gives us modelling materials in all scales, and for free, dirt, leaves, branches, rocks, etc...and this is a good example of it. Why simulate dirt when you can use the real thing. Actually i´ve posted a couple of pictures using real materials on my G+ profile, that will be part of the diorama "Grosseinkauf", named after your kind suggestion. Vielen Danke...
indeed! the best materials are provided by nature already. you just have to find the stuff and adapt it :)
The placement of figures at the end looks so satisfying that I constantly come back to watch that part lol.

I'm learning amazing things when I watch your video. Whether it is short or long like this, it's a real pleasure to look at what you are doing. I wish I understood German so I do not waste time looking at the subtitles the same time with the video. I was impressed with that lighter fluid in combination with oil paint for the weathering.
cheers! well you can rewatch it and focus on everything besides the subtitles :D it is not gone, the info is always there. so it is not a waste in the literally sense.

es braucht nicht immer das beste werkzeug und die tollsten farben, mit etwas einfallsreichtum kommt man auch sehr weit :) freut mich wenn es gefallen hat.
Great series on this model Michael and the weathering is again is hard to beat for it's simplicity. I must admit I particularly enjoy mudding them up myself,hell I did it with my Tonka trucks when I was a kid! Anyway looking forward to the build up of the diorama till then take care.

Very nice build. It's encouraging to see what a fantastic result you can achieve i.e. with soil from your garden. I did the same on my first pz 38 and it's still the most realistic so far. Now I will remove the excess as it looks like it's been pulled out of a mud hole lol...
thanks! that is the cool thing about the earth technique, you can always remove it or redo it.

Schöner Building Review, habe diese schon lange bei deinem Kanal vermisst und freue mich auf weitere. Ich finde auch deine Erklärungen wie Du manche Sachen machst einfach genail, so das Neulinge immer wieder was Lernen können.

great paint job, not to much rust! most military vehicles were blown up before they rusted,I use real dirt to due to the fact that I can't afford half of the products out there, and it has always worked for me to! 👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Mark! Not many people seem to use dust and earth from outside, they prefer expensive products.

super modell! werd das video einfach mal als anleitung für mein erstes 1:35 modell verwenden (bis her nur 1:72). Sieht wirklich klasse aus!

First of all, I can't thank you enough for these kind of long videos where you take the trouble to show en detail the techniques you used. They are a very good tool for learning and I always enjoy them. And they also motivate me, you know, to work better and more often. Second, your model is looking fantastic - but you gotta be used to this by now :) Lastly, you said around the 26-27 minute mark that some decals "should" be censored in Germany. I highly suspect you meant "are censored", because a while back when working on that Stug from Finland you complained that some swastikas symbols are censored and that is a bad thing, these stuff being part of history and so on. Anyway, keep up this excellent work!

my remark about the decal censoring was pointed in a different direction. i expressed my surprise that the SS runes on the decals are not censored, but they should be censored according to the law by the distributor. i am against censoring the stuff. i just say that according to the law they have to be censored.

A wee bit too long for my liking but I skipped and skimmed over a couple of days on and off and got the gist of it.. I may try the 'earth paste' method later, it looks easy enough. Hope to get some more armour built this year, in both 1/48 and 1/35.. :)
it is a bulky video to watch for sure, but beginners appreciate it :) you can not screw up the earth paste method, if it gets all bad you could simply put the model in a water bowl over night and the dirt would dissolve i guess. brushing it off with a brush like i showed in the video does the job as well.

Deine alterungsmethoden sind echt schön, vorallem das wash, die verschiedenen lackschäden und der auspuff gefallen mir richtig gut.
Immer wieder schön zu sehen das auch andere mit revellfarben und der airbrush arbeiten.
Ich finde die idee mit dem erdegemisch am ende sehr interessant, doch hätte ich selber angst nach einem mühevollem alterungsprozess das Modell so einzudrecken, ich hab es allerdings auch noch nie gemacht von daher kann ich da schlecht mitreden.
Freu mich schon sehr auf den nächsten teil, diorama bauen ist finde ich einer der schönsten sachen beim modellbau.

It looks great so far. The only problem I have is with the figures, as you've said they're not worth an award, but in my opinion they look to grayish and dull, in the contrast with the more brightly painted halftrack. You could spice that up by making some camoflages on them, like molding those helmet covers with ordinary modelling paste. For the guy with the cap, I think you can repaint his jacket, in 1944 they usually wore splinter-camoflaged jackets that had identical look, just the paintscheme was different.
its a matter of taste of course. however, that advice is really late, because it would have made sense to point that out the previous video already. the guys wore camo jackets sometimes, but not always. there are plenty of pics of the normandy battle where they wore the everything from M35 up to M44 uniforms.

wow great video ! it is longer than i would have expected, but you made it so interesting that it didn't seem that long after all. thanks for sharing some great tips. i noticed that you glued some parts (wheels) after painting using what appeared to be revell glue. does it still give a proper bond, or did you remove some paint from those areas ? i could not tell in the video. again, great video, thanks for sharing your helpful tips. the sdkfz 251/7 looks fantastic ! :)
i think the pace is right, detailed but not too boring i hope. i did not feel like splitting it into two parts, let´s keep it tight :)

Nice job (again :) )and nice job with camera, too. Do you dilute varnish with something before airbrush appying? What´s the air pressure during varnishing the model? How is it with varnish when you work on some figure? Thank you very much. Keep well!
thanks! sure i dillute the varnish, just the same way i do it with the other paints. it is an absolute necessity. pressure should be pretty high, something around 3 bar. it is always the same process, it does not matter where i apply varnish.
Samstags Nebel Blues. Was gibt es da besseres als mal wieder ein etwas älteres Video, von dir, anzusehen. Waren die Zurüstteile eigentlich Hartplastik oder DS Material? Und wenn DS, lösen sie sich mittlerweile auf?
Habe einige Grenadier und Pionier Zubehör Sets. Diese hab ich noch nicht benutzt da teilweise nicht scharfe Umrisse, verzogenes Material und den Erfahrungen mit DS Ketten die total zerbröseln. Wenn der Weichmacher sich verflüchtigt hat werden Sie auch ölig.
Ansonsten ein schöner Bausatz der hier auch noch vorliegt.
Die Ausstattung dieser 3 in 1 Modelle war auch immer sehr reichlich und gehört zu dem Besten was Dragon je geliefert hat.
Schönes "Kellerwochenende" wünsch ich dir.
Das ist ja das schöne, dass (im Normalfall) alles auf RUclips bleibt und jederzeit angeschaut werden kann!
Ich habe das DS Zubehör noch und dem fehlt noch gar nichts, könnte man jederzeit verwenden für ein Projekt. Aber genau wie bei dir stören mich die etwas weichen Details. Jedenfalls möchte ich früher oder später mal die DS Abdeckplane verwenden, davon habe ich zwei Varianten zur Hand.
Sieht richtig gut aus. du hast die sachen bzw. tricks und deine Bausschritte schön erklärt. Ich hab jetz auch mein erstes bulding review video auf meinem kanal zu dem Gepard von Tamiya gemacht lg :)
hey lieber Michael schönes video ich finde du erklärst das echt gut ich hätte da ne frage wo du die schwarze Grundfarbe auf gesprüht hast wurde die ja in der dose verdunnt hast du dass auch bei der braun für die Sitzbänke gemacht
jup, habe ich. farben die ich oft mit der airbrush verarbeite habe ich oft mehrfach, wobei eine dose eben schon passend verdünnte farbe enthält. damit entfällt das anmischen.

Ich muss schon sagen du beeindruckst mich immer und immer wieder aufs neue. Die Tarnung ist dir super gelungen und dazu habe ich auch eine Frage: Wie stellst du deine Airbrush ein wenn du so ein Tarnmuster von Hand sprühst?

das mache ich eigentlich nie, aber man kann natürlich hinten eine schraube eindrehen der den hebel nach hinten hin begrenzt. die begrenzung verwende ich aber nie, mir ist es lieber das frei wählen zu können.

Hallo ich muss echt sagen dass Sie tolle modelle bauen und dazu noch super Videos machen. Ich hätte nur eine frage an Sie. Wie behandeln Sie die modelle vor dem Lackieren? Da die ja meist mit einem leichten Ölfim versehen sind? Würde mich über eine antwort sehr freuen. Mfg Dominik
das war früher mal sehr wichtig die gießäste vorher mit wasser und spüli etwas zu entfetten, aber ich mache das schon seit jahren nicht mehr (es sei denn die teile sind wirklich fettig). bei resinteilen ist das was anderes, da würde ich schon empfehlen die zu säubern bevor es losgeht.

Cheers Rob! That is entirely up to your personal preference, i tend to glue on even the small bits and paint them later on the model. I find this less fiddly than handling tiny parts with wet paint on them. It also helps to tie it all together visually.
Hi, wie immer tolles Video. 2 Sachen: Was meinst du mit silber trocken über das Modell gemalt? Und nun die nächste. Bin ja auch einer der alles lieber vorher zusammen baut und dann brushed. Wie machst du das aber bei modernen Tanks mit Seitenschürzen oder ERA Schutz? Da kommst du doch nicht mehr ran zum Ketten kleben oder machst du den Verschluss nach unten und fummelst sie dann durch?? Wäre schön ne mal deine Meinung zu hören.
beim trockenmalen mit silber ist nur ganz wenig beinahe trockene farbe auf dem pinsel und das bürste ich aufs modell. man sieht dann die kanten und auch die fläche ein wenig metallisch glänzen wenn es fertig ist. schwer zu beschreiben, probier es mal und dann siehst du schon was ich meine.
zu deiner zweiten frage, ich würde die seitenschürzen einzeln lackieren und erst wenn das fahrwerk fertig bemalt ist an das modell kleben.

Findest du dass es sinnvoll ist sich die "revell spray" Farben zu holen?

schönes video, was für eine nadel und düse verwendest du bei dem auftragen des tarnumsters?
ich verwende für alles eine 0,3mm düse, damit schafft man eigentlich alles.

For info the tracks are workable you Lock them with the rubber pads just use very little glue
That is true, but its super fiddly though. I personally prefer to glue it all, since there is no real benefit to keep things like that workable.

In 1944 a German vehicle would not survive many engagements, so battle damages are not necessarily in order. Damages as they happen by traversing rough terrain and so on is a different affair though, so bent and battered fenders and things like that are always a good way to increase the level of realism.

Echt geniales Video, ich werd die Techniken auch mal bei meinem nächsten Panzer bzw. Fahrzeug ausprobieren.
Zu den Revell Farben, die benutzte ich auch und bin vollkommen deiner Meinung. Ich hab zwar immer noch manchmal Probleme sie richtig zu verdünnen aber für flächendeckende Anwendungen benutze ich auch so gut wie immer sie.
Nur für feinere Tarn Muster finde ich sie persönlich etwas ungeeignet, dafür benutze ich seit neustem Tamiya Farben.
Eine Frage hätte ich jedoch, was benutzt du zum verdünnen der Revellfarben? Normals Wasser? Ich benutze eine Mischung aus Isopropanol und destilliertem Wasser. Vielleicht liegt es ja daran das ich nicht so fein sprühen kann.
+Flugzeugbauer würde mich auch brennend interessieren wie er die verdünnt, ich hatte auch immer probleme ....
du wirst lachen, ich verdünne mit leitungswasser. natürlich muss das nicht heißen dass es nichts besseres gibt, es funktioniert nur einfach hervorragend und ich habe bisher nur selten etwas anderes ausprobiert, schon allein aus kostengründen wäre es unsinn.
früher als ich die revell farben mit wasser verdünnt habe, ist jedesmal die düse verstopft.. selbst wenn ich noch mehr verdünnt habe. aber werds nochmal probieren , denn die ergebnisse können sich sehen lassen.

Für die grünen Tarnstreifen, auf wie viel PS hast Du den Kompressor eingestellt, und was für eine Nadel hast Du genommen?
Dafür habe ich vermutlich eine 0,3mm Düse benutzt, Druck ca. 1,2 bar.

ohje, nein! für akryl nimmt man wasser, for die emaile farben brauchst du speziellen verdünner wie aceton oder was revell als verdünner dafür anbietet.da kannst du mit wasser garnichts ausrichten, es wird sich nie verbinden.

what does priming do?
people say it helps the actual paint to adhere better to the plastic, but that is not the reason why i do it: i apply a primer coat so all parts of the model have the same base color. imagine you put on some PE parts on the grey plastic and you also add plastic of other colors like beige or green. when you apply the sand yellow paint on top of that the sand yellow will appear differently on these parts. because on grey plastic it will be more light than on dark green plastic. it is basically just a way to achieve a rather unified paintwork.

klar, das funktioniert ganz genauso, dauert aber manchmal etwas länger beim trocknen, weil die künstlerfarben nicht unbedingt für solche aktionen ausgelegt sind. ansonsten ist es genau das selbe.

Weiß nicht, ob dir schon mal jemand den Tipp gegeben hat; wenn du die MIG und AK washes und streakings nicht mit einem trockenen QTip abziehst, sondern dafür einen weichen Pinsel mitTerpentinersatz nimmst, dann wird das feiner und du kannst den Effekt besser steuern.
