As someone who works with special needs kids, I can relate to Leo. Sometimes you need a break and it gets hard to take that break when you know they need help and they can't stop themselves from acting as they do. Leo's vacation was long overdue before he ever met Bob.

I think that book is a fantastic idea: Baby Steps ! 😄 It’s based on the concept of continuity itself. I also love what he tried to do at 8:20. That was near genius considering the situation.
Dr. Leo Marvin is brilliant, and his arrogance goes hand-in-hand with it. The problem is that once he has identified your problems clinically, he is useless, lol.
This is the case for so many psychiatrists. It’s delightful to see how f***ed up his personal and familial life are. Everything is a façade to boost his ego. It’s hilarious to see how he really is.
Of course, in real life, Marvin would have called the police as soon as Bob showed up at his house ! 😂

have blown up at a Bob of my own before
I met this guy when I was having a bad day. He wanted a cigarette and I gave him one and he latched on to me. I got him a job and hung out with him and he would drive me around bc I lost my license.. but when I had already secured a ride he would show up anyway.
He had a gf who had kids of her own from a previous relationship, and old Bob would always refer to these kids as his own: "my kids this" and "my kids that".
One day I screamed at him: "THOSE AREN'T YOUR F***CKING KIDS!"
After that he...
DIDN'T CHANGE AT ALL
The same things all the time, he never listened to advice. Completely clingy and oblivious. I feel glad I don't talk to him any more, but I feel bad for him as well

There's another great Murray movie from this era that gets overlooked a lot, "Quick Change." Highly recommend. Him, Geena Davis, and a few other recognizable faces. Crime comedy. Funny and personable stuff.

I really enjoyed this movie! One of the reasons it really works is that Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss loathed each other in real life and were constantly clashing during the production of the film. Dreyfuss was constantly losing his temper at Murray, who eventually started deliberately provoking Dreyfuss. In later interviews about the experience, Murray said "It's entertaining-everybody knows somebody like that Bob guy. [Richard Dreyfuss and I] didn't get along on the movie particularly, but it worked for the movie. I mean, I drove him nuts, and he encouraged me to drive him nuts." Dreyfuss said "How about it? Funny movie. Terribly unpleasant experience. We didn't get along, me and Bill Murray. But I've got to give it to him: I don't like him, but he makes me laugh even now. I'm also jealous that he's a better golfer than I am."

The thing that always amuses me with this movie is that the actors literally detested each other. Filming was extremely hard, and they have never worked with each other ever again.
So it’s funny, seeing the tension on screen, because this is most likely what the tension was in real life
They hated each other. With a passion.
