Used to have a flip phone when I was like 5 it was red lol I never had it activated and eventually got my first "real" phone a smart phone.. at 13 an iphone 5 I paid $50 for from family boss who upgrades each damn model
Great review now where can I find instructions for a MyFlip 2 for the one I have model T408DL its different from the one you are reviewing and what you are showing does not work on mine. I can't find any step by step setup and install info and I really need that. Thanks
Curious why the FM radios on any of these phones doesn't play in stereo. On my smartphone with nextradio or on a phone like this flip phone. None of them play FM in stereo. My guess if you don't need stereo to listen to the radio in an emergency situation.
great video...the link to amazon shows it's Android OS...then later is says KaiOS---I'm ordering it; hoping it is KaiOS 2.54, hope it's VOLTE compatible...long time Tracfone user...no one at Amazon, Tracfone,Ebay or anyone answers questions...
Great review. Unfortunately I was looking for a tutorial. SUGGESTION. If you just had a graphic or inset of what you were doing on keyboard while you were going through this it would have been a terrific tutorial. Also, if you don't already have a side-gig doing voiceovers you should set one up because you have a nice speaking voice and are easy to understand.
All these phones that look like this one all have the same problem, you can't text and talk at the same time. Real problem when you come across banks and others who insist sending you a identity verification text that requires you to respond to while talking to them at the same time.
If you transfer music on your laptop onto a Micro SD card and put the card into the flip phone does the music come up in the flip phone? And if so since this flip phone has Bluetooth, does it still play when you close it?
Is there an option to clear the screen by flipping the phone closed and flipping it back open? Pressing the red arrow key is an issue for my elderly mother.
@@CSmith-gb1sl they can put a man on the moon, but not add this simple option. Anyways, I ended purchasing a Nokia flip phone for her. It has this option. But, it also has an SOS button below the volume on the right side. So, she keeps pushing it in error and the screen displays a message that confuses her. I've seen an SOS button on the cover of an Alcatel. I wish the people who design these phones, actually used them.
@@arizonarebel5706 With this phones cumbersome navagation, I keep dialing back the numbers I want to block, there seems to be a annoying delay between a key press & action in some areas. This phone is trying to be a smart phone & a flip phone at the same time. It would be nice if it has a mode to turn off all "smart" features & just became a simple phone. I thought Alcatel was owned or related to Nokia (French arm of Nokia). With my carrier I'm kind of limited to which phones I can get & use. This was my only choice for a flip but they are now offering an Onn, unless I want to go over to a glass monolith which I don't.
@@arizonarebel5706 Is that the 2780 that comes in Red or Teal? ..$89, I only paid $19 for this alcatel, I have to have something compatible with the Verizon Network too. I understand my carrier may merge into Verizon this November forcing me into a monthly plan which I trying to avoid, probably will wait it out with this one till then to see what direction this takes, I'm not a cell phone person & would much rather use my home phone for communications.
Edit, after 6 months I have made so many unintentional callbacks to spam #'s trying to clear them out, the navigation on this phone is so awkward to use. :( Cannot see the last 2 digits numbers of anyone that calls me, as I am now on a 10/11 digit calling area (I would prefer Area Code splits than overlays to have retained 7 digit dialing), also Cannot see when I have a new Voice Mail message. I'm coming over from an LG L125 Classic, which developed an issue in the hinge, but the navigation on this is Alcatel is horrible compared to the LG. I'm not sure if its just the fact it's trying to be too much of a smart phone, or just poor firmware... is the industry trying to get me to go over to a frail glass monolith? Any way to disconnect data & the KaiOS apps? I currently have TXT & data disabled through my carrier, & ONLY use this to make & receive Voice calls. I wasn't looking for a smart phone but this was one of the few flip type phones left. Since I'm on a Prepay, I don't want the data eating at my balance. I did go in & shut off data retrieval & roaming. It still wants to connect on my home WiFi which I believe is OK if it needs upgrades. Would like to disable the app store, book of faces app, since I likely will never use as well. Also it is asking for the SD memory card, did not add one in my old phone, & it was fine. I agree, lots of tech & features for the money, but I really don't need or want it. thanks.
thank you foe the reviews. I have an Alcatel flip phone model 40520, with a kaios 2.5.2 software, but it fails to download WhatsApp, it just says error, I've tried to restart, have enough space on the device but still doesn't install whatsapp. Do you have any suggestions? and for the version you showed with WhatsApp on the screen does it come installed or you download it? because if the issue is the version, I could get the version. Also, if anyone has WhatsApp on theirs can they confirm if it works fine. or/and if there's a flip phone you know that works with WhatsApp? Thanks
Hello, I'm having the same problem with whatsapp. The app shows up on the homepage but nothing happens when I click on it, except it says it's too old and needs to be updated. But I haven't figured out how and I've been trying for hours. If you ever figured out how to update please let me know. Thanks
The phone on the right -- first you say it's Total Wireless (even though it's got a Tracfone logo) then you say tracfone, then Net10. Sure they're all owned by the same company but still.
It seems like all of these phones come with Tracfone logo & firmware no matter which of these carriers you purchase from, (Tracfone controls all & then some, & they use the Verizon Network), I'm curious if these are interchangeable within all the smaller companies, I was told you must purchase from each carrier, though I find that hard to believe
Great review!! I have a My Flip 2.5 and thinking about going to this My Flip 2. I was thinking about ditching my smart phone and going back to my 'My Flip', but will this phone turn a picture horizontal like the video you played ? Also how is it for receiving larger photos and attachments? I love the way you compared the phones so I could see the difference between my old My Flip and this '2' model. 5 Star Review!! Thanks
@@cherie0882 Thanks. I did ditch my smart phone but I use it as a camera when I want some decent pics. I don't get a lot of photos on my flip and [so far] it's been pretty good. Thanks for the comment.
Too Large! We keep going backwards in time. Started it out with huge cell phones got them all the way down to a perfect size small flip phone only to have them huge again. Even the new flip dumb phones like this one is a lot larger than what we want. Seniors cannot hold them due to the fact they are too large open or closed. When open they are considerably larger than our smartphones. Even you have to open and close it with 2 hands. Did anyone else notice the quality of the phones are awful. Cheap plastic which feels awful in your hand 🤠
Yeah you right, todays Nokia dump phones are made with crap plastic , I compare them to my old Nokia 3100 and there is no comparison , old ones are made Like a tank 😅
You can shut the internet switches off in the settings area, there is a switch for the network wireless & one for roaming, & don't connect to a Wi-Fi, that should cover you. Though it apparently is going to need updates, I only allow it on my home Wi-Fi.
More advanced than any iphone, this baby has a headphone jack
And a micro SD card slot and removable battery

Because phones are just being used as entertainment systems these days, instead of being used as a phone
Nice job, thanks. Regards from Baltimore.
How can I get the microphone to work? How can I download it so I can text

Can you uninstall any pre installed apps like Google and play store?
I just got mine, Per Alcatel you cannot delete the preloaded "apps", I wanted to delete these as well.
