Group Home is not known to be the best lyricists but this album Livin Proof was 99% produced by DJ Premier. His beats take them a long way. Once they strayed away from getting the Premier beats they went downhill but that album is a classic.
Malachi never wanted to be a rapper. He is in this group because a judge would only give him probation if DJ Premier made him a rapper. He was a very talented boxer but was robbing people. Him and Dap were the hard kids on the block that Guru and Primo had thei studio and Gurus apartment. Dap and Guru wrote all Malachis lyrics.
He was talking about penetrating the scene. It really was a filler but what you have to understand is back then we were not so hypersensitive over certain words, especially when it's easy to understand what they're talking about. From an old man's perspective, we get frustrated because now days a mufucka can't even have a conversation without somebody "pausing". I personally think it's sad that tge society is so out to prove it's not gay that words that existed long before this era can't even be used without somebody thinking it's gay. If i was to say to you in description, "when the fight started I was standing behind my homie"... somebody gonna say "what"!? It's ridiculous that EVERYTHING comes off that way. Oh I forgot, it's ridiculous that everything "works" that way.
I mean if we keeping it a buck, we got to blame Cam'ron for that shit lol. I remember him starting that in the 2000s. While defiantly wearing all pink 😆
@Peacekeepa317 I'm not sure I agree with that. I can't remember this "pause" shit before 3 or 4 years ago. What Cam did with the pink was make dudes in the hood comfortability wearing certain pink stuff. Of course, today they say it a lot on their podcast, but to have started it? I need some more proof on that one.
@purposepassionandlovetv863 That's the first place I heard it. I remember because I used to be on allhiphop a lot when Dipset was popular and I first saw it there in a pause GIF with Cam'ron wearing a pink fur hat
i understand it's a tough song to go back to 30 years later but honestly this was an underground favorite that would be more like a 9 rating because of the Premier production and how popular it was because it's just a perfect record for every DJ to add to their hip hop mix so you heard it everywhere.
You guys would faint from euphoria if you reacted alone to DJ Premier's production on the Group Home Livin' Proof album. It's considered to be his greatest work ever!!!
Brand New Subscriber Here. 100% FACTS about OG on the left talking about SO MUCH music from different regions around the country back in the 1990's but I'd go a step further & say EVEN in the early 2000's it was kinda like that too. Houston (TX), Miami (FL), New Orleans (LA), Atlanta (GA), a few artists from Mississippi & Alabama, Memphis (TN), Washington (DC), T-Pain from Tallahassee (FL), Richmond/Hampton Roads/Tide Water Area (VA Virginia), Kansas City & St. Louis (MO), a couple rappers from Dallas (TX), NYC, Philly, Jersey, Baltimore, Boston/Beantown (Mass.), Detroit (MI), Chicago (IL), Cleveland/Akron/Dayton/Cincinnati (OH), Minneapolis (MN), all up & down California on the West Coast from San Diego to Sacramento & everywhere in between. Believe it or not, there were even Canadian rappers coming out the woodwork representing Cities like Vancouver & Toronto back in the 90's & early 2000's that got a little radio play & commercial/mainstream success. Virtually every region of the United States & bits of Canada were trying to get recognition, capitalizing & competing for the Musical spotlight in the 90's & early 2G. A lot of them got at least 1 hit single as a "one-hit-wonder" on your local radio station too. You'd be surprised how many of them received minor national attention for their "15 minutes of fame" type of moments. A LOT of individual artists, duos & groups now forgotten & disbanded in the 2020's. Not just in the rap (hip hop) industry but soul, r&b & neo-soul as well. The uniqueness & creativity was off the charts!
Love group home mainly based on PREMO. I like what yall doin here. The contrast of opinions and interpretations of the older vs younger. Would love to recommend some tracks if yall take em.
This whole album was 🔥 back in the day production all Dj Premier/Preemo ...You gotta post Jeru The Damaja first album "Dirty Rotten Scandal" (1994) alll Premier that one in 🔥🔥🔥too
I'm from ENY they wasn't the most lyrical. Premier carried them. Too much competition in the 5 Boros city then. WE WAS SPOILED IN OUR OWN WORLD....ANDRE 3000 had to let the 🌎 know at the source awards we knew people was catching up but NYC was in it's own 🌎 then
@@erickford1624 I agree grouphome wasn’t the most lyrical , but they had flow, cadence , and dap’s voice 🔥and those inner city vibes the streets related to. You right Premier’s production made a huge difference in their music but at the end of the day they had 90’s soul which made up for the lack of Lyrisizm in my opinion .

Speaking of Inspectah Deck and Gangstarr you absolutely MUST react to Gangstarr - Above The Clouds (feat. Inspectah Deck) ruclips.net/video/anBPFszVo8o/видео.html one of the most perfect Hip Hop records of that era, a True Classic in every way a song you put on repeat when you first heard it until you learned all the Lyrics --"I Self Lord and Master shall bring Disaster to Evil Factors..." is how it starts! a Hip Hop Spiritual!!
These street dudes back then... The last thing you would be thinking about is the gay agenda of lookin for Diddy moments... And especially you wouldn't be questioning their stance up close and personal. Enough already with this constantly being on diddy thinking and dissecting. Life and lyrics are much more than searching for that foolishness
Yaw gotta get your knowledge up on these vintage tracks dog 🤦♂️. Like do a little research before you make the reaction , like google, Wikipedia , watch interviews . I like yaw but the reactions are a bit choppy
