I am ex Royal Navy and current Royal Australian Navy. An Engineer. I have never met a pilot or aviator who didn’t love flying and put it first. I am not a pilot. Robin Olds is an inspirational leader, his courage and his disdain for stupid orders from on high is a lesson for the likes of me.
I talked to Gen. Olds in 97, I called him at his home in Steamboat Springs.I asked for a autograph photo and said my dad was in Da Nang in 72,retired NCO. I said he was just a hydraulic mechanic for Jolly Greens. He came unglued-Sir he kept us flying if it wasn't for each man and job we couldn't fly!!!!! Don't you forget it! He later talked to me and asked me questions about my time in the Army in the 80s and asked about my dad, he was the real deal and sent my dad a autograph photo-Thanks for keeping Us Flying! A real American Hero
Christina Olds is the type of daughter that all great men wish they had as their child. She has done a huge amount of work on keeping the legend and legacy of one of my favorite heroes, General Robin Olds. I am 65 and one of the first pictures I hung up on the wall of my bedroom in my apartment (after the divorce) is a fantastic photo of Col Olds by his F-4 in Vietnam. I served in 72' to 76' on the ECM systems for the RF model and the C model in Iceland. And I always loved my work and the friendships I developed with all of the different Maintenance people and the GIF and GIB that I met on my journey. And I always had hoped to run into General Olds somewhere during my travels. Thank you Christina for all you have done to educate us on the life of your Father. He was a True American Hero in my book.
As a Marine in Vietnam 67 68 with the 9th marines 3rd marine division those f 4 fighter pilots saved our ass time after time & day after day. They gave thier all. To this day the sound of a jet inspires me. Pilots like Gen. Olds will always be my hero's Semper fi to his wonderful daughter for this his amazing story.
Robin Olds was my husbands boss in Vietnam. He flew F4 fighter pilot. I enjoyed listening to this video. My husband died in 2003 suddenly . But had many memories of Robin Olds. Thank you for sharing.
I had the great honor to meet Robin at Oshkosh in 2005. He saw me fall out of the sky in an ultralight. He applauded the landing. We talked for several minutes. A great guy. A regular guy. People just wanted to be around him. Will always remember that moment.
This man, Robin Olds can be counted among those few Real fighter pilots of that period through World War II and Vietnam. But that is not all. His much loved and talented daughter, Christina, has so vividly brought to life what this wonderful guy really was: bigger than life I'd say. You see it in his smile; even through his full-blown mustache!! I can just say thank heaven there was one such as Robin who graced this earth/
What an outstanding story of an American Patriot aviator shared by an adoring daughter. Thank you PeninsulaSrsVideos for sharing Christina talking about her amazing father. We hope she has influence over who they find to play her Dad and that she selects an unknown or relatively unknown actor. It would be most excellent for a new actor to have a chance as we can bet once they learned about him they would do an excellent work.
This kind of video is much better than any Hollywood production. One may serve our country but the family also makes a significant contribution to that service. Thank you Christina !!!
Thanks for explaining why Col. Olds never got an official fifth MiG. I never believed he didn't. Thanks for posting. By the way, Col. Old's mustache encouraged me to grow mine back in the early 70s. I was in the Army. Still have it.
Amazing heartfelt memories of an American hero. I am a Canadian Veteran infantry type with an aviation background. When you described the F-4 missing man formation...I lost it...more tears flowed as you went through this wonderful history of this bigger than life man. Utmost Respect.
I woke up at 3:00 AM this morning and I could not go back to sleep. When this happens I will go into the living room and turn on the TV and I will usually be asleep in 15 minutes or so. The stories and experiences that Christina Olds shares about her father would not allow me to go to sleep. I could have turned the video off and watched it later, but I was hooked.
Christina, I never met your father, but I have known many of the pilots that have been influenced by his example. in the 80's I supported the Wolf Pack during many exercises. Being stationed at Clark AFB, PI we were very aware of the exploits and individualistic style of your father. This vlog brought tears to my eyes. God bless you and god speed to him!
If you have not yet read Fighter Pilot...read it! It's awesome! It's not just the story of an American hero but also contains decades of aviation history.
A real American hero indeed... and thank you for sharing this wonderful note to a beautifully orated memory of General Olds, by his beautiful daughter, none the less.
What an amazing man.. Loved the story and the daughter telling it. Lost my dad recently and although he didn't fly planes he spent his career flying helicopters in the army. A couple tours in Viet Nam.. am as proud of him as Christina is of her Dad.
I would presume that Brigadier General Olds would be extremely proud to see his wonderful daughter giving this fascinating and highly entertaining presentation. Full marks, beautifully done. P.S: I've just ordered the book from Amazon UK. Greetings from England.
I think it is awesome how Christina Olds has carried on her fathers legacy. Quite the story indeed. Living in Colorado Springs a short distance from the Air Force Academy I'm now planning a trip to visit Robin's grave and I'll bring a bottle & a nickle (then I'll head to the bookstore to look for the book Christina wrote). Can't say enough good things about these presentations hosted by Jarel/Betty Wheaton at Peninsula Seniors. History that needs to be remembered. Thanks all involved for their service..
I was Gen Olds personel And administrative Officer. now 93 Best boss I ever had. next to Mcarther.😀😃😄😁😃🏅Recently received the congressional gold metal for serving with the OSS
What a touching tribute to an inspiring hero. I gotta say, I was choked up at times as you recalled the life of your father. God bless you, Christina. He was, indeed, "the real deal". We will never forget!
He was truly a hero..I met him a few times through a friend who flys a P51...he reminded me of john wayne...a BIG man..bigger than life for sure..you MUST read his book!
Col. Olds was a great aviator. I was an air traffic controller at Ubon Thailand while he was there. He had a big booming voice on the radio. I think he was the highest ranking full colonel in the USAF, having made the rank in 1953 and promoted to one star general in 1968 after he left Ubon. I think I am correct on the dates. He would have promoted a lot sooner but he had difficulty playing the "politics" of the military. He took no prisoners.
Larry Smith do you remember a pilot at Ubon in 1967 named William Kirk? He was my wife’s uncle and she has many questions as do I about his service in the USAF. also, thank you for your service.
Mrs. Olds I Wish to thank you From the bottom of my heart. Your Father Is, was and Still is a great American Hero May God Bless You and Thank you for the History lesson and the Legacy He left Behind.
Chris.your deep love and admiration of your dad comes through in every word and facial expression. Thanks for sharing your story of a truly magnificent man..
My father was among the first assault waves on Omaha, survived to participate in the achievement of victory over an evil juggernaut and retired before Vietnam was in full swing. God bless your father and his indomitable warrior spirit.
Thank you for posting. I remember an interview that Gen Olds did in 2005 where he told us about his experience in the P 38 but really got into the adventures in Vietnam. My best friend was under his command while he was stationed in Thailand. Outstanding leader of men with dedication to them and our Country. .
Love to the Olds family ❤️, Robin Olds inspired me to become a fighter pilot he was a true warrior and leader of men unlike the pencil pushing morons that dominate our leadership today
Chris - Thank you for sharing the extraordinary Life of your Father, I always knew that He was the exceptional Man He was with his Fighter Group back in 'Nam (after having seen the Dogfights on History Channel), and now I realized what a Great Human Being He really was - Thank you for keeping His legacy alive and Thank you for what You do - Bless You!
outstanding, young men of today don't have role models like this anymore.I grew up in the 60s and 70s hearing about Olds and Yeager my father would always say good thing about them, he also was a pilot, as am I, not the caliber of this man but I enjoy the craft.
Thank you Christina for this video and all you've done to preserve your Father's life, character and achievements for current and future generations of Americans. A copy of your book sits permanently on my lamp table and has the honored role of receiving my coffee mug each morning. When the mood strikes I'll read a few passages, just to be in that world again for a few minutes. The audio version is masterfully narrated as well and resides via Audible on my phone. Finally, thank you for that wonderful final chapter. Fills me with joy, and tears me up as well. Thanks again. You are so blessed to have had such a father.
Having read her book on her father, shared it with friends and all expressing their admiration for her father, this has just added to that feeling. Thank you very much for posting this on-line.
Robin Olds fighter Pilot, Father and military leader, he is one person I have admired along with Chappie James. It wasn't until I seen on RUclips years ago about the friendship between the two of them and the story of "Blackman and Robin". I can say one thing about from my own experience as a combat veteran that served 1 tour during Iraqi Freedom 2006-07, Christina Olds said it right about the men and women who have served together in a combat zone develop a unique relationship that is close or as closer than Family and will stay with them for the rest of their lives. She explained and tells the close relationship her Dad maintained over the years with former combat military Pilots and maintenance crews he had served with and kept a close relationship over the years long after serving the United States Air Force until the day he died. Thanks Christina Olds for telling and sharing your father's story and legacy. One last note 14 June 2007 was the day the Nebraska National Guard 1-167 Cavalry Squadron I deployed with boarded a plane from year long plus deployment in Iraq returning to United States of America, the Same Day (Ret.) Brig Gen Robin Olds passed away may God rest his soul.
I have been so blessed to have met your father. He was one of the ACEs at a fly in community being opened in north Georgia. Many of the ACEs you mentioned were there. It was an enjoyable experience.
Wow wow wow! What an amazing story of a legendary fighter pilot! If HBO picks it up and gives it the Band of Brothers treatment, I expect it will be pretty epic. Someone suggested Tom Hardy for the leading role as Robin Olds. After recalling Hardy's performance in Dunkirk (2017), playing the role of a fighter pilot no less, I would have to agree!
That is, without doubt, the best video that the Peninsula Seniors have put out. What an amazing man who helped keep us all free. Thank you so much from the other side of the world.

I only knew Gen. Olds as a Security Policeman but not too long ago my brother, F.E. Head brought to my attention that he and Gen. Olds and and friend were devout Bridge players, and had become great friends. So much so, that when Robin Olds died my brother was holding his hand
Wonderful, touching presentation by Christina Olds. No better biographer for a man than his daughter. Hopefully Christina will eventually find a producer trustworthy enough to make the Robin Olds story, as this story needs to be told.

David Lee that’s so awesome
He’s correct about everyone had a job to do to keep planes in the air

This is a real story, along with the history of WWII to Vietnam, well worth the time to watch.
I am a huge Col Olds fan. A no B.S. warrior who didn’t cave in to politics, unlike the “ leaders” of today. Godspeed RO, I salute you 🇺🇸

I only knew voices as they came through the radio. Air traffic controllers did not mingle with the pilots.
Mrs. Olds I Wish to thank you From the bottom of my heart. Your Father Is, was and Still is a great American Hero May God Bless You and Thank you for the History lesson and the Legacy He left Behind.

Such a super cool story! God bless Robin Olds!
My uncle was a crew chief on P-51s during WWII. I also knew a guy who was Gen Curtis LeMays personal driver for 6 months while he was head of SAC. He didn't have a high opinion of him.
Simply fantastic. Thank you.
I was stationed at Wheelus in 68-69. I was stationed at Kunsan 1980-81-82-83. I retired in 1989, and have those wolf head decals on the windows of my Jeep. Thank you Christina for the wonderful stories of your Father.

Love this striking story of a wonderful family
Excellent talk. Especially liked all the photos. Had no idea Sean Tucker knew Robin. Had the privilege of 'escorting' Bob Hoover for a day while at Embry-Riddle. That whole group was cut from an interesting cloth. Thank you so much for the herculean effort to put his notes and papers together, to tell his story.
Robin Olds is a hero of mine. I've always thought the only person who could play him is Tom Hardy. Thanks for this wonderful lecture. Been looking forward to one on Olds for several years now.
Hardy bears a resemblance, and he´s a good actor too.
At 6' and nearly identical chin, Aaron Eckhart could fit the role very well
Thank you your fascinating look into the private life of this heroic mans man!
Thank you, Christina. I have your book and will read it soon. I loved your talk on your great Fighter Pilot Father. What a great leader and man! Incidentally, I was stationed at RAF Wattisham, England 1986-1988 with 2 Squadrons of F-4s. 56 and 74 Sqn RAF.

This is one of the best things ive ever watched on youtube,, very very moving
Wonderful, touching presentation by Christina Olds. No better biographer for a man than his daughter. Hopefully Christina will eventually find a producer trustworthy enough to make the Robin Olds story, as this story needs to be told.

Staggering! An amazing look into a culture few outsiders like myself can begin to imagine. May their tribe increase!
Imagine this amazing story was told and nobody filmed, edited and uploaded it.
Thank you so much for this story!
