I feel like this definition was more true a few years ago, the word/definition (although usually cut short at "weeb") has mostly moved on to be more universal and and even jokey/ironic, like nerd, being called a nerd used to be offensive, but now its like, hey everyones a nerd, similarly, most nerds I know will call each other weebs, with no harsh feelings, like, "yah were all a bunch of weebs" whether you just watched full metal alchemist once, or keep up with the top seasonals and classics., I haven't actually seen weeaboo used in the context of a cultural obsession in maybe 4 years

Don't know, they probably think that knowing more about particular anime shows and after watching tens of anime series, or attending some Japanese Culture Festivals (such as bunkasai 文化祭etc.) and doing some cringy ass cosplays (that actually looks bad and has no actual effort put into it) has more privilege to be called more "Japanese" than that of the "Japanese descents". I'm not addressing every weeaboos to be having the same amount of cringiness, some are actually respectful towards the Japanese culture and actually tried to look deeper and I respected that. I met alot , it makes me wanna question my life , they are just so damn awful Note - I actually saw a weeaboo licking a body pillow and actually praying to an anime girls thigh . And I love anime but I'm glad I never took it to that level
I've been learning Japanese as a hobby, but not necessarily because I want to watch anime without subtitles or something. XD No, I am learning it because I have games from Japan that I would love to play but I can't read Japanese. I'm a purist at heart, so I'm always looking to play games how the developers originally intended it. For a lot of Japanese games brought over to the west, some things get changed or removed. Even small things like changing/removing even the littlest amount of blood bothers me. Games are art; as such, to tamper with an artist's original vision is to disrespect the culture behind art itself.
@@ilikecats8653 Technically, a person who is a weaboo is vary obsessed with anime that they want to be involved In the source of it's inventors. But for actual Japanese people, they tend to take it to the next level by dressing weird out in public and paying for plastic surgery to make them look like an anime character. An otaku is a japanese person who avoids the social life and spends alot of time their home watching anime and playing videogames games all day.
@@saitamayourdaddy7008 How can I be a weeaboo when I just signed a petition to bomb Japan a third time? Where is your proof of this accusation against me?
the thing about weeaboos is that they're separate from normal anime fans. there are plenty of people who respect japanese culture, speak the language, and like anime that wouldn't be considered "weeaboo" because they're good, upstanding people that separate their overall life from the media they enjoy. the main difference is that weeaboos are those that don't act like normal fans and take their obsession so seriously that they delude themselves into believing untrue things about japanese culture and norms and it changes the way they act. much like a kid playing pretend, but they believe many things they do are really things japanese people do or would be accepting of. (sometimes to the point that they'll fight people on beliefs they're just as clueless about.) they *assume* they know things about japan that are typically blatantly untrue because they're learning everything from mainstream anime, mostly, and they'll end up with a lot of confirmation bias based on things they saw and figured were normal in japan. they will assume they know things and *that* is how they disrespect the culture. they'll break japanese norms, ending up sticking out like a sore thumb in japanese society, and post pictures like the ones you saw here because they think this is acceptable in the culture, lol.

If you see someone IRL or in the comment section even that they prefer to be called "Otaku", you've basically just found a Weeaboo.
Definition of otaku in Japan is changing tho... Technically, otaku = geek. While weeaboo =/= geek. yea, Otaku *could* be used to say an anime freak but it isn't the only way to use the term. Or a Weeaboo might say, "死ね," because they see anime characters say that all the time so they assume that's culturally acceptable in Japan when it isn't.
More like Otaku
I feel like this definition was more true a few years ago, the word/definition (although usually cut short at "weeb") has mostly moved on to be more universal and and even jokey/ironic, like nerd, being called a nerd used to be offensive, but now its like, hey everyones a nerd, similarly, most nerds I know will call each other weebs, with no harsh feelings, like, "yah were all a bunch of weebs" whether you just watched full metal alchemist once, or keep up with the top seasonals and classics., I haven't actually seen weeaboo used in the context of a cultural obsession in maybe 4 years

I've been learning Japanese as a hobby, but not necessarily because I want to watch anime without subtitles or something. XD
No, I am learning it because I have games from Japan that I would love to play but I can't read Japanese.
I learn it to show off to anyone.
That's my reason for learning it, bragging rights, and I'll do anything for some good bragging rights.
Most people don't know this, but Japanese people can be weeaboos too.
But isn't a weaboo a person who pretends to be Japanese... ? Wouldn't that just make them an otaku?
@@ilikecats8653 Technically, a person who is a weaboo is vary obsessed with anime that they want to be involved In the source of it's inventors. But for actual Japanese people, they tend to take it to the next level by dressing weird out in public and paying for plastic surgery to make them look like an anime character. An otaku is a japanese person who avoids the social life and spends alot of time their home watching anime and playing videogames games all day.

Safari man also said on 5:30 "i love pussy" or some shit.
the thing about weeaboos is that they're separate from normal anime fans. there are plenty of people who respect japanese culture, speak the language, and like anime that wouldn't be considered "weeaboo" because they're good, upstanding people that separate their overall life from the media they enjoy. the main difference is that weeaboos are those that don't act like normal fans and take their obsession so seriously that they delude themselves into believing untrue things about japanese culture and norms and it changes the way they act. much like a kid playing pretend, but they believe many things they do are really things japanese people do or would be accepting of. (sometimes to the point that they'll fight people on beliefs they're just as clueless about.) they *assume* they know things about japan that are typically blatantly untrue because they're learning everything from mainstream anime, mostly, and they'll end up with a lot of confirmation bias based on things they saw and figured were normal in japan. they will assume they know things and *that* is how they disrespect the culture. they'll break japanese norms, ending up sticking out like a sore thumb in japanese society, and post pictures like the ones you saw here because they think this is acceptable in the culture, lol.

yea, Otaku *could* be used to say an anime freak but it isn't the only way to use the term.
