And we barely had a resemblance of a modern military, even at that time's standards. God bless the children of Israel.
A crushing and mighty victory for Israel, a humiliating and embarrassing defeat for the Arabs... How did the international community deal with this war?
The communists took it extremely hard, since they were supporting the Arabs. Poland instituted heavy antisemitic policies in 1968 as a direct reaction to this war.
The Israeli army is actually quite incredible that they gave up the land they've taken after a sudden invasion shows their willingness towards peace talks and negotiations.
They attacked first and illegally annexed many territories for which no other country in the world recognized as theirs until recently when America started to
@@dinokingtyThey attacked first ONLY EGYPT as a justified preemptive strike because on 17 May 1967 Egypt broke the 1956 ceasefire treaty and international law by blockading the international zone Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships and supplies. At the end of May 1967, Nasser claimed in a public speech to have been aware of the Straits of Tiran closure implications: "Taking over Sharm El Sheikh meant confrontation with Israel. It also means that we ready to enter a general war with Israel. It was not a separate operation".[18] Then he dismissed the UN peacekeeping forces from the Sinai Peninsula and then deployed 100,000 Egyptian soldiers, 1000 tanks and 1000 artillery units directly on Israel's border. Then both Syria in April 1967 and Jordan on May 30 1967 signed alliance against Israel with Egypt's President Nasser. During the waiting period before the broke out of the war, Gammal Abdul Nasser got on the radio every day and declared this coming war would be a war of annihilation. On May 21 1967 President Nasser addressed the Congress of Arab Trade Unionists in Cairo and declared that Egypt and the other Arab nations were now prepared to destroy Israel. "We've been waiting for the day when we are ready for battle," he said, noting "Recently we have felt our strength is sufficient." The threat came a moment later when he said, "The struggle with Israel will be total; its basic goal will be the destruction of Israel. I would not say this five or even three years ago". Israel knew that it was a matter of days or weeks before Nasser launched the attack and pre-empted by attacking their airfields. Israel asked Syria and Jordan to stay out of it, and those 2 countries chose to attack Israel instead and paid the price for their aggression.

I'd like to see an alternative history where Israel annexed the Sinai peninsula. I wonder how it would have affected international relations and future conflicts
The big question would then be what happens to the Suez? Is it under complete Egyptian control, complete Israeli control, or some type of shared control system? And if there is a border around the Suez, either side could threaten to block traffic to cause international pressure, similar to Iran threatening to block the persian gulf. Otherwise, the sinai is a desert, so besides better access to the red sea, there isn't much to gain, which is exactly why Israel felt trading such a worthless piece of land was worth gaining the international recognition of Egypt and better diplomatic ties.
The Israelis were desperately fighting for a homeland (because of what happened in ww2) while the Arabs already had plenty of decent countries (yes syria and Yemen were decent before their wars) thus they weren’t desperate for anything. I’m glad the Jews got a homeland finally.

@@hamborger8546 Actually Israel and Egypt gave it back in exchange for peace (which was a good move since there hasn't been a war between the two since 1973). If the Palestinians were seriously wanting a nation, then they would make peace with Israel in the same way Egypt, Jordan, and some of the Gulf States have.
@@cyberverse9141 No, reality = Israel vs Syria, Egypt, Jordan + Iraqi and Saudi Arabian small forces. Selling weapons is not a direct political support, as far as history tells us - France embargoed Israel, the US didn't support Israel until 1973 and the main supplier of weapons was UK and Czechoslovakia. But none of the countries above ground or air forces participated in the war. Unlike Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia which all had Physical troops and units attacking Israel. Coup harder next time.
@@Fayes_Fav They did, you might want to read about the war a little bit. I am not sure about Saudi forces but Israel directly fought Iraqi soldiers. The Iraqi soldiers were not even shooting the IDF when they saw them because they thought they were Jordanian forces.
So, for those who may not know some of the details, one of the most "Bruh..." moments in the history of warfare occurred in this conflict when after Egypt got it's butt absolutely kicked up and down the Sinai, they then proceeded to call up their ally Jordan to inform them that they were absolutely dominating Israel so it was all good to go on the offensive.

@Dagger The Soviets fed false information to Egypt about Israeli armored divisions massing on the Syrian border. Egypt took the bait and massed their own troops in the Sinai. Israel took that as the sign of an impending Arab League attack and made a pre-emptive strike. Egypt's airforce had yet to mobilize and was wiped out in around three hours. The ironic part of it all was that President Nasser of Egypt had previously been chided by other Arab leaders over his perceived lack of initiative in helping Syria and Jordan. It's possible that he acted recklessly as a result, trying to preserve his reputation, but he suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in the country's history. He tried to resign immediately after but remained president until he died of a heart attack 3 years later at age 52. But it also tells you everything you need to know about the Russians. They're not so much about conquest as they are sowing global instability. The more chaos there is in the world, the less threats they have to their own interests.

The areas of Mandatory Palestine (with the exemption of Green Line "Israel") were annexed by Jordan and Egypt following the 1948 war. Though their annexation of the West Bank and Gaza (respectively) had no legal basis, it was pretty much accepted internationally. Also please look more carefully; you can actually see it towards the end of the video. When Israel invaded its neighbours in 1967 and occupied (inter alia) the West Bank and Gaza, the UNSC through UNSCR 242 dubbed them the "Occupied Palestinian Territories."
they never had the intention to give it back rather forcibly pressured too by the UN ,Uk and US to return it back to Egypt and in return Israel would be recognized as a country by Egypt if im correct

@@negawatt2313They have trash military and training, not technology. Since the Vietnamese used the same technology to defeat the US in the Vietnam War 😂
A very good read, probably the best, is "Six Days of War" by Michael Oren. Oren is US born, eventually became the Israeli ambassador to the US, so one would expect he'd have some bias, but I think he's impartial in his book. Certainly, he documents the events impartially. What's significant is that none of the Arab states were prepared for war; this was especially true for Egypt. Nasser and the Egyptian generals sort of slid into the war in that they didn't seem to think Israel would consider Egyptians forces placed near the border would be a cause for war. And, they were nearly correct in that. Jordan had no particular wish to fight Israel but felt they had no alternative (long story, read the book). Bottom line, I Israel lucked out and were not so overwhelming as indicated by how things panned out. Had the war come a few years later, or, had Egypt not had so many of its best troops in Yemen, or, had the top generals not been incompetent (generally speaking), it's questionable if Israel would have won so handily, if at all.
the war was over in the first hour as the Arab armies lost their air-forces. However it was a tough fight. My father was a paratrooper at the time and he was on one hill and a friend of his on another hill when the retreating Egyptian army retreated between them. To make a long story short, my father rescued a Beduins family caught in the crossfire, and his friend was shot in the mouth and had to command his soldiers by writing notes in his own blood in order to communicate. (he lost half his tongue and all his front teeth in the battle.) In the end a tank came on his hill and he thought it was over. But it was an Israeli tank that came to help. He became a dentist.

It was not a separate operation".[18]
Then he dismissed the UN peacekeeping forces from the Sinai Peninsula and then deployed 100,000 Egyptian soldiers, 1000 tanks and 1000 artillery units directly on Israel's border.

This entire war was the result of the Soviets trolling Egypt.
