Dave, I cannot express enough how important your videos were for my journey in the amp modelers world. I started with MX5 a few months back and was completely overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge required to set it up properly to make it sound as you need it. I wanted to give up and send the headrush back being convinced there is something wrong with unit and not my skills... a typical newbie mistake - looking back from the perspective. Even though I still have a lot to learn I feel like I am 10 levels higher then I was. Having said that I watched probably all of the videos available on YT regarding different modelers. But there were none that gave me so much understanding on how different effects work, not only in isolation but also together and how they affect each other. You knowledge about sound and sound waves in just priceless. And seeing you being distracted by a drone flying "in f sharp" in one of the vides was one of the funniest things proving you really feel sounds around you.
Wow, your explanations are so clear and concise; I did not know how important a few of the specific parameters were that you demonstrated - they make such a huge difference in making the patch USABLE and flexible in the live setting. Thanks Dave!
Dave, this is great stuff! I'm loving my MX5, but I'm a drummer turned guitarist, so I'm learning not just about the unit, but about the chaining of various effects. Thanks for some great videos!
Dude thank you so much! I feel like I just learned so much about my MX5 and got an awesome preset out of this. I already started tweaking this to my liking and am very excited by the sounds I'm getting - Thank you for taking the time to become familiar with this pedal and for putting this video together!
That is a sick rig mate. Thank you soo much! Just copied almost 99%, and boom: works like a charm. Makes me love my MX5 better. Best part is: I learn effects, so educational
Dave, thank you so much for a great explanation! I own both the Headrush Pedalboard and the MX5. Thinking about using the Pedalboard only in the studio, and the MX5 for live shows due to the size factor. I've been curious about Ambient guitar for a while, now I have a great place to start!
Wow. Amazing detail. Someone who actually seems to understand how to use these effects in isolation and together and can educate at the same time. Extremely impressed. Great video! Subscribed and definitely learned stuff. Thanks!
superb, tyvm. lot of variables, may require many replays here and there to fully understand and dial in. but great video Dave. mapping the volume pedal is something i will be learning soon, and footswitch assigning! so much to learn but all worth the effort, i love the mx5👍
Nice! This is the best config I've seen for creating pads. Subscribed. I also appreciate showing the setting rather than the lengthy explanation. I'm fairly new to Headrush products, but loving it so far. I'm looking into adding an inexpensive MIDI controller (Melo Audio MIDI Commander or similar) to gain the extra button control when desired. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thank you Dave, modern technology can be amazing if used properly. Now if only Sweetwater would get some MX5s in, (Demand is far outstripping supply), I can start the learning curve. Thank you, for flattening that particular curve. I want to see how close I can get to our lead guitarist’s $7,000.00+ board, for $400.00. All in good fun.
I have just watched this video for the second time today.. I'll probably watch it again and apply the settings on my Heard Rush Pedal Board. Thank you so much.... U have all the sounds for playing in a Church Worship Setup.... Do u play at Church? Coz u do sound like one... haha
@@DaveBode It really was; I managed to get the pad sound I was after. Now going back through more of your MX5 offerings - I like high gain and ambient tones so you seem like a good fit for me! Subbed 😁
Hi, I followed your patch but I dont have Irs. so any advice about which amp can I use to sound decent for this patch? thanks. I will be checking your channel, I have a headrush pedalboard but patches are compatible.
They are solid monitors! I have 2 sets. However, the ones in the space you see in the video have DSP correction and a lot of room treatment. I have 26 2'x4' broadband absorbers made with Rockwool RHT 80 in an 11'x11'x10' room with a carpeted floor. Measurement was done with REW and correction applied via an Ultradrive Pro 2496. The Ultradrive isn't ideal but it has the processing power. The result is a corrected response that measures very flat down to 32Hz. Audio-nonsense aside, using monitors to build guitar sounds is the best way to get great results on every system. Good for you!
Hi Dave! This RIG sound awesome!... I bought an MX5 reciently but im experiencing some noise in my rigs... Do you have any issues with that in comparission with others Headrush? Do you use balanced cables to your interface? Do you filter frequencies / noise reduction / something to help? Im very confused about that... please I'll wait your answer!! Another thing: I have made this exact rig, but my "Auto Swell" does not work like yours... when I play the first chord, the volume seems to be "open"... and more with the DYN COMP. Any idea why? thx
I use balanced cables from the MX5 to my audio interface. I only use noise filters with rigs that use an amp with lots of preamp gain. If you are using a distortion pedal with an amp and running the output of the distortion too high, that will make it sound very noisy. Just try a simple rig with an amp and an IR. I like the celestion IRs you get when you register the pedal. Add verb and go from there. I also use a gate with single coil rigs, but not always.
@@DaveBode OK, I just bought 2 balanced cables to try with my Focusrite. Some people told me that the MX5 make more noise if is not connected with this cables, because they cancel interferences and make "ground" with other device. Have you read the comment of the Auto Swell?? Any idea? Maybe work better with this cables, will see!! thx a lot for your time!!
I love your videos! Thank you! I think the talking is the perfect amount, btw! Haha I have the Headrush Gigboard and I wish the community was bigger for Headrush! I feel like a tiny community and much smaller being a Worship Leader with the Gigboard!
I'd like too. But building the sound following this guide, and working with the settings of each effect, are much more effective for learning something new.
I have bought a headrush mx5 and brought it to Brazil... 2 mouths of use it stopped working and they didn't pay me back... desapoited with Headhush.... I should buy a Hotone
I'm returning mine. Can't play it through my pedalboard set up. Too much time spent searching, scrolling, adding, tweaking, etc… I will stick with my analogue pedals. 👎

This was a great video. You've got a great ability to teach and speak in front of a camera. I wish you had more cool videos for the HeadRush.

What's the equivalent delay for this on the Helix? I do have an MX5 on the way that I'm pretty excited about.
Does the Mx5 not have already a "freeze" pedal, called hold among the available effects?
I really like that we have the same monitors. I can get the exact same tones as long as my guitars pickups are similar.

One question - How did you duplicate the Headrush display onto your phone?
I just shot a video of it.
Do you have a rig pack for sale with this shimmer rig in it?
Amazing ! Thanks !

I use balanced cables from the MX5 to my audio interface. I only use noise filters with rigs that use an amp with lots of preamp gain. @@FeReX1982 You might have to adjust the trigger sensitivity until it swells properly.

Fabulous! 🌻
Hi does the MX 5 have have a polyphonic Shimmer?
Sounds pretty cool
This is so helpful and so great... Thank you so much.
Well, right at the start, with the Dyn Delay and the exact same settings, my chords don't duck, they just go on top of each other. What did I miss?
You might have to increase the gain on the Dyn III comp. If the Dyn Delay doesn't get enough signal it won't duck all the way.
@@DaveBode thanks for the answer! And for the awesome video.
