I think you should set up a 30 minute pod cast one day a week and let Jude answer questions and run the whole thing. This will open a ton of new avenues for him. I too have learned no matter what you sell or what competition you have, the more you educate others the more your sale increase. Keep up the good work.

Captin i first saw you on a video with Meme. I am near Valdosta i have talked to Samatha a couple times and purchased a couple lbs of RW from her. Very nice lady. I am 73 got into worms this year. Happy to be a part of a nice/helpful family. BTW i am saved by His grace.
You are a very knowledgeable n seem to be a good soul n down to earth.I just started gardening at 63 I live in central Florida. My wife passed away so I live with my daughter n 3 grandchildren, I watch them take them to school cook and other things around the house. I get to watch n help them grow while mom n dad saves money on child care. We live in an HOA so I can’t do a lot but I started with citrus, banana, n pineapples. I bought 2 moveable grow boxes n I have a 4 ft w 20 ft lg garden next to the garage. Right now I have zucchini, tomato plant that’s huge n full,Cabbage ready to pick tomorrow.I also went n bought 2 fig trees 3 blueberry bushes n 2 half barrels full of strawberry’s. It gives me joy to grow food for my gr kids n family.I.May try n start a small worm farm but there is no place that in the summer to have one.if we ever move my daughter said they will build a house n have a few acres for me to grow food on so I am getting all the knowledge I can if it ever happens. So thank you for sharing with me n May god bless you n your family as well.

Hi I am so amazed at all you are doing. I have just started my worm bins a couple months ago. My question is how do I save my baby worms when sifting my castings? Thank you. I love worm farming.

suggestion...use one of the large mixing wood stick for paint (hardware store) put a hinge on the table, at the point u always cut the bag, screw the other end of the hinge to the stick with small screws and u have a ruler to cut the plastic bags...the good things is that when u finish cutting u just lift and let rest on the side of the table...voila...easy...
what size uline tube do you get? didn't mention the width too many choices on their site thx!

I was wondering what sort of standards you target. Moisture level? Do you test your vermicompost contents?
another tip....take a 5 or 3 gallon bucket, remove the lid and remove the bottom...set the cylinder on the table and put the bag inside...put the worm poop and lift the cylender...no need of extra hands...also try to make a small table where u can put the cylinder so u do not push your back too much...

Got an idea for you. Get a hopper ,put double sliding cutoff on it. Bottom section would be premeasured for 10 lbs. Put the bag underneath open up the bottom door and shoot it in the bag.
If you use this idea, I need a couple bins of worms. 😅

How long do opened bags of worm castings store for and remain good? For indoor growing when mixing with sterile peat moss?

Captain, great video! The cut you make in the bag adds what to your system? Is it to allow the air to slowly be squeezed out instead of the bag blowing out when they are stacked on a pallet?

Great question... I'd love to hear ideas around this. I let some air in the bag through a slit... but castings should be used within the season.

Me and a friend just started a worm farm business out of a small pole barn. Just finishing up three continuous flow bins. Im hoping we see success in the next six months. Starting with 10,000 worms....should i buy more now or will they multiply enough to get a worm farm going. Your amazing captain matt your one of my favorites, your so honest no bs

I think burlap bags (used might be cheaper) could be a bagging option. Not sure how well a label would stick to that material
Interesting idea, Nicole. As long as it does not dry out the castings too quickly.
Little late to this but I know some local coffee chains in Milwaukee give away there burlap sacks that they store their bean coffee in
How much do the black bags weigh in kilogram (kg) ???
Depends on moisture - we shifted to 1 gallon boxes this year.
How long can the microorganisms stay alive in a bag like that also same question for the worm tea in a sealed bottle
Good question. I would like to know that too? I mean is the stuff as good if everything inside is dead? Maybe finding a channel that answers would be a better way to go.
I’ve seen others use paper bags (they breath) but the castings are inside a micro perforated plastic bag inside the paper bag..
When I sell worm castings, I put them in sand bags. I have found bags in the outbuilding over a month old that had live worm from cocoons hatching. The sandbags are breathable. I am not a fancy as the capt. I write on the bag with a marker instead of a label.

Can you tell me what your production is like during the off-season? Like November - March? Are you still harvesting and bagging castings during this time? If so, who is buying? Could it be mostly commercial greenhouses or growers?

Harvesting but not bagging until spring, sales start to pickup in late March through June

@@SJPowerUp_1 Hello. When I bag my castings in clear storage bags, I soon see many many little white worm-like creatures. I thought the baby worms would be brown in color. Are what I'm seeing baby worms freshly hatched? Or something else? Thanks
@@michaelharvey1564 I wouldn’t know w/out seeing them, but in my experience, hatchlings look like sm worms, same color (not white). Hope this helps. Good luck!
Do you have an organic certification? I dont care either way if you are, im more curious about going through the process of getting that certification. Is it worth it? Because where i live, people think "organic cert" is a joke, and i cant say i disagree.
I mostly sell direct to the customer - and not being produce/food, have not seen the need/requirement. Nature is nature regardless of a logo.
Sir what do you call the plastic rolls you put the castings in?
It’s a poly tube 5000 ft long and I cut it to length and seal it with a heat sealer, all purchased at ULINE

Matt, how did you handle local permits and other interference from government. I have harvested 4 gallons of castings so far. I would really like to expand my horizons. My local agriculture center is not very helpful at all.

Hi Marina, gardening is such a great tribute and memory to your father. I only sell castings locally here in Troy, NY. You can find castings on Amazon or at Home Depot... but much better to get from a local source. Where are you located?

My 7 and 8 year old are just starting their worm farm business and dad is working on getting the supplies rounded up so they can sell their product in the months to come. Great video and love the info you share.

@@CaptainMattsWorms Hi... I really enjoy your informative videos. My worm farm has been 40 years in the making, but only seriously during the last 2 years. I am trying to replicate your bagging setup, however I am running into a minor conflict with the information provided. You mentioned the bags were 12" wide and on a 500ft roll. However, at Uline, the 6mil 12" wide bags come on a 1000ft roll and the 14" wide (and also 16" too) bags come on the 500ft roll. Could you please tell me the actual model number on the roll of bags itself. Is it S-5529 (12" wide roll) or S-6525 (14" wide roll)? I tried replaying your video over and over trying to catch it when you got close to showing the model number, but I was unable to make it out. Any specific help you can provide with this would be sincerely appreciated.

If you used your angle ruler as your knife cut guide, you wouldn't need to constantly use that clear plexiglass. That process seems to add more labor time and its inefficient. Its already there on the table and the bag is already under it. Also you should consider option 2 which would be affixing a paper cutter, and you could cut a lot faster and give yourself a cleaner cut. Not bashing, its just what I do as a business owner myself. Find ways to reduce the labor intensiveness of mundane tasks.
