Spear on the Deadeye is quite the game changer. It gives you heals and stealth, cheap, on the weapon bar. Is also a heap of fun... Not necessarily for a video, but you might want to give it a quick taste for your own personal interest.
I second this. I've been doing celestial deadeye with spear and Relic of Blightbringer. Lots of poison stacks. They melt and I dont' die because of some extra vitality and armor. Open world of course.
The heal on the spear is obnoxiously busted, you don't even need Celestial for it. It's 2.5k base and doubles against vulnerable targets. Only problem I see with is that it has terrible damage as a condi weapon, even though it was meant to be condition based. The rhythm also goes out the window if you have quickness. It's a great solo open world weapon, but feels too "complex" for end game stuff.
@@Relhio I turned off autoattack to help with quickness and it seems to mostly work. I have also got used to the rhythm with quickness... as I think on it, the "rhythm" as you put it, really is pivotal... My dps has been slowly creeping upwards, in cele I've gone from 12.5k to 15.5k, self buffed on the golem. I think I'll likely peak at 16.5k... As you very rightly point out, it really is too "complex". Makes it fun for open world as I find it very engaging.
@@CarnaghSidhe It's a lot of talk around being optimal and mostly content where this doesn't matter; at the end of the day who cares you missed your rotation here and there on an event or really, any type of content. If you play condi, the spear generally wants you to have a very specific rotation, 222 4 23 1 - 222 4 23 1 over and over, and this is without quickness. Unfortunately I just started playing Thief after 3k hours in the game and trying to wrap my head around how to play it properly. I'm very used to cele Tempest which is virtually invincible and viper Untamed with Let Loose which has 25% permanent DR on Unleash Pet plus two lifesteal abilities on the Ambushes. So far, besides the build Vallun posted, only the Leeching Venoms seem to be the only good solo survivability option; that and the spear by itself. I guess it makes sense why you see so few Thieves around, and the only ones you see tend to be Deadeyes with rifles.
Dagger/Dagger Celestial Deadeye built correctly is one of the strongest solo PVE classes; you can solo champions, legendary bounties and even some fractals.
One of my staple characters is a Deadeye with dual pistols as main, and spear as secondary. With some thought put in to build, gear, relics etc you get some terrifying DPS output and amazing mobility.
Yeah probably so - I just found it throughout these challenges much easier/cheaper to just gear up my alts with celestial so they're pretty decent at whatever - specifically because I'm doing 4 different builds in one month, and so they can be used for whatever afterwards as well. I still haven't finished getting full legendary armor for every weight yet.
I'm really looking forward to it! I'm in the midst of Mesmer this month and I really like their spear so far! More than my own Warrior Main's spear in fact, lol

Thoroughly enjoyable video and concept. I am bias though as I also think the deadeye and daredevil are the best specs in the game. All the evades on the daredevil coupled with the Bo staff weapon type make you feel like an invincible martial arts master. The deadeye being a stealth sniper is such a cool power fantasy too. I am not as sold on specter but it is at least a real shakeup to the thief gameplay so it adds some variety. When is warrior due for review? :)
Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed! I agree the *feel* of the specs is just so great. As Warrior is my main, I'm going at that last as sort of a 'review' episode at the end of the Series. Assuming nothing gets in my way, I'm in the middle of Mesmer for september and that's my 5th class, so Warrior video should be February if I keep on track. Will likely do Mesmer > Ele > Necro > Ranger > Warrior.

@@syzxgamingx Smashing! I am looking forward to it!
As a new player from 2023 I did HoT by walking (no mounts) to experience the original feelings when traversing that map. Raptors ganks, raptor ganks and more raptor ganks. Fun painful experience lol
The PvE builds for thief are so lame. Deadeye should've been a Ranger elite spec. Daredevil is like a martial artist and shouldve been a Warrior spec. Specter is the only cool one that fits the rogue fantasy but god is scepter is awful. Anet should rework Sword on thief to fit PvE and add it to off hand too. Yeah if you are PvE player who like rogue classes, this game is not for you.
Hard disagree here. Elite specs exist to change the ways classes play and giving them the option to fill roles they couldn't before by improving or changing class specific characteristics. Thief is both a very slippery (see acrobatics), stealthy (see martial arts) and selfish class. Both Daredevil and Deadeye enhance this in very different ways, with DD focusing on dodging and AoE melee while making you less stealthy damage (no stealth on staff and no stealth synergy in traits) and DE focusing on stealth and range single target damage while sacrificing mobility (through kneel mechanics and loss of f1 teleport). Daredevil is a martial artits yes, but a very slippery, fast hitting one, perfect for a thief/ninja like class. And Deadeye is also a perfect fit for thief as a stealthy sniper, way better than ranger would be since rangers are very nature-themed and rifle is as close to anti-nature as it gets (also remember Ranger =/= range damage). At last specter was an attempt to make thief less selfish and it kinda worked i guess, even though i'm also not a big fan of scepter. Reworking sword for PvE is also unnecessary imo, as it fills its role as a very mobile duelist PvP weapon pretty well and thief already has most PvE weapon roles filled (what would sword do different than dagger, staff, spear etc. in PvE?).
@@Winri93 Everything you said about Daredevil being slippery and fast hitting is literally not true (in PvE, not talking about PvP here). The main damage skill of the staff locks you in place rendering all your "slippery" traits useless and makes you vulnerable. You are also forced to use the bound dodge trait instead of the unhindered combatant to be competitive in end game since you lose so much damage if not taking it in power builds. Mesmer does better being slippery while dealing damage due to the nature of its kit. With deadeye however I agree it also kinda fits the thief class fantasy but you cant say rifle is anti-nature when but then the bow isn't? A rifle is essentially thr sme concept as a bow which is to shoot stuff with a projectile from a far. A class named medium armor class called Ranger cant weild a pistol or a rifle but a all the mage classes can use pistol? Mesmer can even use rifle.... Some of their decisions with the classes are just weird now that I think about it, not just Thief. But again, the thief elite specs are lame and the weapons are lame. A rouge class that doesn't have a viable sword build for PvE, yeah... Oh and Guardian gets dual sword. Necromancer gets dual sword but thief? Nope. You already have dual daggers where you just spam spinning skill that btw also locks you in place. Yes you dodge attacks with it but without quickness the animation lock literally Fs you over in real encounters. Again, I am speaking strictly PvE here. With PvP you are right with Daredevil and Deadeye but with PvE? Then I also hsrd disagree with what you said
@@Winri93 For got to add this, but thief is not hard hitting. For example, power soulbeast has the highest burst damage in fractals and the other top power builds can easily outburst daredevil in fast encounters like in Nightmare and Shattered CM.
@@Winri93 And it does help that in all of Thief builds there is just no flexibility in thief the utility. Especially in condi builds coz you are forced to bring venoms instead of mobility utilities so there goes being "slippery" again. Unlike mesmer (well i can only speak for chrono) that usually has 2 flexible utility slots.
No dude, elite specs are here to bring creative new things and they delivered. If you wanna play with a rogue, just equip the rogue-like weapons and enjoy what the espec brings to you outside the main weapon. If you want to use the weapon, be ready to embrace new things. I agree with you in one thing, puritans should run away from gw2.
To save you the 14 minutes, thief dies quickly and generally has absolutely nothing to offer for a group except burst damage. Also, Thief is the worst class for solo Open World.
something about pdps staff daredevil and cdps scepter/dagger makes my wrist hurt after switching from scrapper/holo engi. can't figure out what it is and it's very annoying as im thoroughly enjoying thief gameplay and animations :/
