Hey! Here is an updated video guide! ruclips.net/video/1H3dTVuNvzs/видео.html
This is not just a review of the Fire Stick, but the best tutorial on Retroarch I've come across. Thanks!
Retroarch for the Fire Stick of course.
Fr dude I’ve never knew retro arch was so technical and user bias Fr tho great work
@Jesselirio looks like every other version of retroarch I've used
I've bought this device not long ago on black Friday sale, just because it works quicker than the TV's OS. Yesterday I've stumbled across your video and now my wife is playing ocarina of time for the fist time in her life. Stunning to see that you only need such a small device nowadays. Thank you for showing how this works! Great video!
Can you help me find that so i can experience it too?
Where did you get it from?
@@garyphisher7375 Amazon prime day
@@Paulinator0707 I meant the game but it's okay, I found the sites.
@@garyphisher7375 what can I search to find the sites and download the games?
I never even contemplated being able to us the Amazon Firestick for emulating retro games before seeing this - great video thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the RetroArch tutorial. I'm impressed with the fact I can game on this little stick since I'm waiting for it's arrival in my mailbox. Gaming isn't the priority for me but nice to have some classic games to play on it. My kids probably also would like it. 👍
Always love that you showcase never before heard of games. It’s nice to get a new game to try out:)
Thank you very much for this review and the time you took to put this all together. I also thought this MAX device is really well priced for the power it holds. I have been using it for other projects and didnt think of running games on it, but man im pleasantly surprised. You showed a lot of games that i loved playing back in the days and cant wait to get this hooked up. I like the retro touch of that remote too.
I did this to an old firestick last year. I was actually suprised when i got it to work. Good video Russ.
Old firestick, the lite?
Cwnt remember if im honest.
What controller did you use?
Just ordered it for 35 euros on sale can't wait to setup emulators and and have fun with it. Thxfor the tutorial! 👍🏽
i have played around with retroarch on my devices before, shield and firestick, and i have to say by far you have the best tutorial for it yet!
Nice demo and walk through! Also great to know how well this performs with the range of ROMs.
Thanks for adding links to the products you're talking about. Made it really easy to purchase. Now I have yet ANOTHER WAY to play retro games.
Awesome videos as always Russ. Thank you for also sharing todays deal for this fire stick!
Man Russ I don't think we'd know what to do without you
Also I really dig the retro / vice theme you've been using lately in your videos 👍
Yeah man for sure.
I'm not trying to create a whole Creator vs. Creator debate. But this channel really deserves to get a lot more pre-production units of various devices such as certain "other channels" do all the time.
But I guess you have to very careful about making a device only look good instead of talking about it's flaws as well. Or you get left out.
Great video. Saw one on sale so I had to get it, and it runs great. I'd also note that it can emulate some less demanding systems with visual enhancements too. Every PS1 game I tried ran at full speed even using the PSX ReARMed core's enhanced resolution setting, which doubles the resolution. For 16-bit systems you can use some of RetroArch's built-in upscaling shaders for similar results. The 4xScaleHQ shader works great for every genesis/SNES/GBA game I tried; no perceptible lag and it makes them look way sharper and less pixelated. Seriously, Sonic 3 and Super Mario All Stars would never look this good on a big screen with original hardware. Seriously impressive for $40.
Where do you get your games?
@@garyphisher7375 late reply but there are multiple sources, but I would recommend for newer systems the r/ROMs megathread for older systems vimms lair
Just want to thank you for this video, I’ve installed retroarch and other emus on the fire stick before but never took the time to actually tweak and optimize them like you showed.
Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it and you gained a new subscriber
Dude, give the same treatment to the Xiaomi TV Stick. Many ppl got it and the only one that has touched on the emu side is ETA prime, but he rly brushed it off. Many things apply from this video to that too, still it'll be nice to see it. Liked you being thorough on this one -as always-, keep it up !
Hey Russ, when you are shooting a non moving subject, you can just use manual focus next time. Believe me it is much more convenient than auto focus, which is always struggling much on low light situations, regardless how advance and expensive your camera is.
And you can manually set the aperture to have constant brightness
Manual focus would've def solved is focus hunting problem
I don’t even have a proper camera, i manual focus on my iPhone! I can say the same!
I had no idea that you could do this. Nice!
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
Hey Russ, thanks as always for showing off what can be done with these things! A tip- if you're using your camera (er, *camera camera*, not the iphone) to record, put it in manual focus, use focus peaking & magnification to dial it in for static shots like of your monitor here.
true
Great video. Wish I'd seen it before I set mine up. Retroarch was driving me nuts for a while. But I figured it out eventually.
Btw for anyone who doesn't have the 4k max I can confirm that performance is pretty decent using the way cheaper lite.
I have Dreamcast running mostly perfect.
Only the winCE based games have issues
My firestick lite didn't come with the usb port cable. Is it just the case of getting one or did you manage to do without it?
Awesome guide as always. Might try this out.
Great tutorial, It covers everything you need to know to run Retroarch and configure it in a sensible way, and I will recommend this video to every person that may want to use it. I was amazed too at the fact that a streaming device can run retro games so well. Thanx also for the suggested emulators list. On the Fire TV Cube 2nd gen I can say that the Flycast Core with native resolution works great too (it struggles only with Naomi 2 games, and that's understandable).
It would be interesting to see a comparison between this and the Fire tv box!
I have been using the firestick for years just for watching movies and free tv and never even thought of using it as a retro game station.
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day, appreciate the research
Your videos are always fantastic 👍. Congratulations 👏 keep doin it! Greetings from Italy !
Estoy impresionado con el rendimiento del dispositivo!
I tried to setup retroarch but struggled to find a good tutorial. Yours has probably been the best I've come across. I have been using a PSP emulator on my 4K firestick for about two years and it works okay on the most but serious slowdown and sound problems on a few of the larger games. Silent Hill is definitely a no no.
Can you sync Xbox controllers
This is awesome. Great way for me to set up a few games at the GF's house since I've already set her up with the firestick. Thx man.
Thank you Russ definitely going to get the fire tv stick 4k and add on those retro games
Hey Russ love your videos.
With Christmas coming up could you do a video on setting up a device to give to a noob? Low cost, but ready to go and easy to use? Plug and play. Like this one but with a front end so that retroarch knowledge is minimal. Handheld preferably but this video made me think about giving emulation on a stick as well.
Or just a suggestion on a device you can pretty much buy and hand over.
Again thanx for all you do!
Totally dig this idea, would make for many meaningful gifts I can give to people! Especially if these Firestick 4ks go dirt cheap for black Friday!
Hey Russ I read that some people compiled the Vulkan api for Raspberry Pi 4 so it could be a very nice alternative for cheap high end emulation
Bro your Videos are always Entertaining and Interesting to watch so thank you.
This is truly an excellent tutorial. Well done.
Could you do a video comparing the different Android frontends; DIG, ArcBrowser, and LaunchBox?
Very affordable as well. Quite interesting how Amazon makes use of powerful Mediatek chipsets for these streaming devices.
Yh i just bought one this week 😃😎it dope thanks man for the video
Another great, soothing review.
Hey, Russ! I love your reviews, they are so detailed. Do you know if you will be able to review the AYN odin?
I ordered the Pro and the Lite, as soon as I get them I will make a review!
@@RetroGameCorps great! You deserve free units for review purposes, though! Your reviews are the best
@@MisterDrumsNoob thanks, I appreciate that.
This is a really nice piece of hardware ! 😅
nope amazon fire tv sticks are piece of crap
@@jarifazmain5170
😂
Nope
Wicked nice to see you here.
God Christ Jesus bless you my broskis, have a great one
Thanks for the video, an excellent explanation
Yo that intro song is amazing.
So basically, another alternative to the usual cheap tv box setups. It would be interesting to see a Fire TV Cube vs Nvidia Shield comparison, since the cube is supposed to be way more powerful than any of the Fire TV Sticks.
When you compare the videos it doesn’t look like theres a huge difference for the shield with the current state of emulating. Nuts!
Would be cool if you could do a comparison of the 4K vs 4K max with a few of these games
4k doesn't wanna play pokemon ik that for sure
Great video! I just ordered this stick for $34.99 and can’t wait to get my emulation gameplay running in the living room. Thanks!
Fascinating video, thanks!
Is there any chance you could try Guardian Heroes as part of your Saturn test line up. I've been looking for a decent emulator for that and I was curious to see how the Fire Stick handled it.
If the Fire Stick can run Nights into Dream, then it can definitely run a 2d game like Guardian Heroes. I would be very surprised if it couldn't handle it
@@chrisasma9700 I would think so but with Saturn emulation it's never really that clear. Guardian Heroes has a lot going on in it for a 2d game. (Large Sprites and some assorted 3d assets and constant parallax and sprite scaling.)
Hi Russ, I am new to all this and saw this video and I bought all the products you recommended. I have 2 questions. 1) I notice you have a "bios" folder on the USB drive is that an empty folder just called bios or is there a bios file in there? If so what bios file is it? 2) Where is a good place to download ROMs in bulk?
I finally have a good use for the fire stick ❤
I hope this works on the regular 4k Firestick. Thanks v.much for sharing this 😀😀
I have the fire stick 4k for almost a year and I never tried this. Wow.
A tip for next time this kind of thing comes up; just set and lock the manual focus on your camera for any static shot like this. :)
Thanks for the video, I think this is a great use of the 4K Max stick!
You still make soap?
Cool video, thank you! Greetings from Italy.
Wow super useful. I always like doing things on the cheap. Seems like it's also very reliable
Question: Is there a benefit of installing Retro Arch via APK (as shown in the video) over using the one from the amazon app store? I mean it is linked on the retro arch page directly above the download and according to the Amazon page it is the same version.
I guess no answer I have the same question did it work for you in the end ?
That was my question too. Why download the APK and not use the Amazon Appstore? The Appstore version appears to be working for me.
You can skip the Downloader phase these days, RetroArch is just available on the App Store for the stick :)
Tried setting this up myself but the Fire Stick decided to not recognise the USB drive was connected after I had added any ROMs to it. Took it back to my laptop and formatted it, still no dice even though it had recognised it when I very first plugged it in. Definitely power going to the USB drive as the light on it goes on so I’m wondering if the OTG cable might be the problem?
Ty dude
What's up Russ? First off I want to say I really really appreciate your videos bro.
You’re a GOAT for this! Ty!
Is it playable with four wireless controllers w/ n64??
The Fire Stick allows for up to seven bluetooth devices to be connected at once. So as long as the emulator supports it, yes you could play with four controllers.
Thank you x100 for showing how to setup game rewind, saving system core vs game core, and Sega Saturn games! Great video as always.
Also: Don’t have a camera that has a fixed focus? Since your camera and tv aren’t moving, would help just having fixed focus.
Have you installed the yaba sanshiro apk? If so, which version from which site please? Can't find anything explaining this on the internet
I used the guide on Retro Gaming Corps’ website. I ended up buying the $5 android paid version of the Saturn apk.
Thank you for showing dreamcast it's why I watched is their any other games you've loaded by chance. literally every game I've played on that system is gold
Great vid Russ!
Now for the question: How does it compare to Raspberry Pi 4? This is something that I think needs to be known.
Pi 4 (especially 8gb model) is more powerful and if you're just in it for retro gaming retropie is a decent front end experience, but the 4k stick is a much smoother overall tv box experience
@@moshadj WRONG ruclips.net/video/ptHlujyzx0o/видео.html clearly shows the Pi4 struggles with dreamcast and PSP unplayable. Even some N64 games struggle on the Pi4.
@@vherostar Wrong my ass. All you have to do is overclock the pi4 a little bit and the Dreamcast rock solid full speed. I have the Pi4 and a couple of scripts to overlock the cpu and gpu. Plus it has more ram than the firestick. But the firestick runs youtube and a web browser a lot, and I mean a lot better than the pi 4.
I can say that the pi 4 can run dreamcast rather well but like with psp on this 4k max you have to frame skip some games such as f355 challenge, i'd say both the pi 4 and this stick are very close and you'll have a good time with either you prefer to go with.
The Pi4 costs WAY MORE MONEY.
Awesome video!, love the ability to play retro games on the FS, especially the 16bit and PS1 =)
I’m so glad I watched this 👍🏾
If you’re into modern wall mounted arcade cabinets, I do a pretty neat build for Umbrella Arcades. There’s a gaming PC inside with 28,000 games for over 60 systems. It plays most of gaming history right out of the box, from Atari to Switch. The Switch emulator runs games at 1440p resolution and 60 FPS.
How much I'd that?
