    Great work on the brakes! Very close now. The boot on the handbrake cable won’t be an issue at all for the MOT, you’ll be good. Also, when vacuum bleeding brakes, you’ll nearly always end up with the odd bubble come through as it pulls air in through the threads of the bleed screw.
    Good luck with the MOT! Look forward to the next update.
    P.s. we need more Sophie content, it’s been far too long!

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks! Ah that’s good to know about the hand brake cable boot. I think I’ll replace the hand brake cables at some point as they’re already a bit rusty and will only get worse with the broken boots (it’s the same on the other side)
      I did put some grease on the threads to try and stop air leaking through them, and the bubbles were quite big so I suspect it was still a bit of air in the system. Either way the brake pedal feels good so I’m quietly confident.
      Hoping to get Sophie back in a video or two soon, it’s more of a challenge these days with having kids and most of the work happening in the evenings

      Get the anklebiters involved as well...
      I recently-ish bled my Jaguar S Type brakes just using the brake pedal. There was only me so I pumped the brake, checked the hose, etc, and when it felt like there was no sponginess called it a day. Seems ok, but probably not ideal. I did buy a kit to pressurise it from the top, from the brake fluid reservoir...but the top blew off and I got brake fluid all over the engine. Luckily I bought a 5 litre can of brake fluid...

    hot tip, the Goodridge hoses do fit and have the bracket. 10 brake pumps with fluid, then 10 handbrake pulls. should adjust the piston.
    there is adjustment under the car, under the plastics directly under the gearstick.
    next time, just stick the breaker bar between the wheel studs so it wedges into the ground. then you can use the torque wrench on the hub nut.

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  7 месяцев назад

      We ended getting some blueprint hoses which have the proper metal brackets. I did consider trying to stop the wheel spinning with a breaker in the studs, but was concerned about potential bending the wheel studs. Although realistically that would probably take a lot more torque than is required to do up the hub nut

    The rust on the rotors is troubling. I do understand that without a lot of money and space, compromises are often a regrettable necessity. In this instance, I might just degrease the things and soak them in vinegar or citric acid, given the availability of a large enough bucket.

      I was concerned about the rusty discs as well, but to my surprise it wasn’t even an advisory on the last MOT. I’d still like to replace them and the pads soon, but as it wasn’t an issue on the MOT it wasn’t a priority
