PLAN:
1. This set sells amazingly and everyone praises it.
2. Lego sees this and decides took make new pirates.
3. Those sell so amazingly, that lego makes new knights and space sets.
Yes please
*knights.
hopefully lol
Perfect plan. Sadly it won't happen. Also would like the Power Miners to be back. :D
INDEED
It’s hard to believe this is a modern set. They nailed the old LEGO look
They nailed everything
Except for how horrible it looks compared to the Ideas version. Having a 2in1 isn't worth that at all. Went from a definite purchase to a hard pass for me. And yes, I did have the original as a kid and it is nostalgic, but meh.
Borntolovevolcanos idk I like the two I’m one feature. I literally wasn’t alive to experience the original but feel they did an ok job. Pass if you must but this will look great in my ocean part of my city
@@preposterous3245 its not horrible alone, just by comparison to the Ideas model. To me anyway. If that's all they ever showed I'd probably be more impressed, but after seeing how much more impressive the Ideas model was it just feels like a downgrade. Still has some really cool build techniques and such. That crooked window is stellar.
Yes, avcorst
I'm kind of surprised the back of the box doesn't feature the alternate build of the full ship more prominently. It's there, just rather small. For me, the fact I could make the whole boat is the main, huge selling point of this set.
I thought about that too. Perhaps they wanted to honor the original creation more directly instead of using the ideas creation to launch a throwback
This set is just brilliant, hopefully there will be another pirates reboot and knights reboot. I would be so happy!
Not just that you can, but that making the boat doesn't make you tear the island apart!
I always keep the box. I still have the LEGO stranger things box from a while ago
lego designer video says they want it as a surprise
Man if only they brought back pirates, I guess this is better then nothing.
Pirates, castles, trains... all stupid who would want that \s
Edit: yall need some sarcasm
BadHatHarry a lot of people who grew up with it? That was a stupid question
*That.
@@badhatharry4323 I diagnose you with 'stupid'.
@@badhatharry4323 wish you joking
Kinda sad we're only getting a classic theme brought back as an IDEAS set. I truly miss the days of the old Castle, Pirates, and Space sets in particular. Now it's all licensed stuff, City, Creator, and Ninjago.
not to mention
all the other licensed stuff that isn't star wars gets no new head molds no new prints reuse old parts and are always inaccurate i'm talking about marvel
@@atsundiunstrun9199 I can look past that sort of stuff for Marvel sets. Many of them are based on whatever movie happens to be out for the summer, and with Marvel movies the costumes and overall look of the character changes from one film to the next. Doesn't make sense for Lego to have uniquely molded pieces that will only be used once or twice and then never again. Easier to just have close approximations with more commonly used parts.
Yeah :[
@@delta7890 > Doesn't make sense for Lego to have uniquely molded pieces that will only be used once or twice and then never again. Easier to just have close approximations with more commonly used parts
there's a lot of star wars pieces that have never been used except once or twice
this still doesn't mention how they refused to fix ant-mans helmet for years until 2019 or how they keep repurposing the invincible iron man helmet, there wasp figure was terrible
When they started adding in Friends, Trolls, and Elves they had to cut out the "boys" sets somehow.
Two things: where's monkey and where are the golden coins? In 90's every pirate set has some coins.
The pieces were discontinued in the early 2000s, and they aren’t allowed to make new pieces in the ideas sets so there wasn’t really a possible way to use those pieces, I was sad too
THATS SO COOL!!! The shrine that was almost buried in the sand was a callback to the Islanders sets!! That was one of my favorite lines growing up! Such a neat Easter egg
Pat Gilroy yes! Love those islanders!! What’s the name of the chief of their tribe with the big red mask??
Schuyler Savage King Kahuka!! I have so many islanders! They’re so cool :)
That’s the first set that came out this year that I actually want
AND TROLLS
Wade Wilson I know right lmao
Don’t forget the razor crest
Same! I was thinking a few day ago how I really want a pirate ship in my collection, but I would either have to buy a marked up older set, or wait for the Creator pirate ship that possibly won't be to good. This...this is everything I wanted and more.
OOF
im quite pleased to finally see a set remake-type that isnt smaller than the original!
those dual "gyradoses" are Mermaids sir, the word you are looking for is mermaid :D
Definitely mermaids, facing away from each other with their arms held behind them (holding their hair up perhaps?)
He thinks they look like gyradoses
Merman *cough cough cough cough* MerMAN!
Gyardoses are still cooler :)
BrickVault Ummm...okay...? 😅
This is already number one in the top 3 LEGO sets of 2020! Everything about this is so amazing! This is not the set we deserved, but the one we needed!
Eh, we deserved to get the Ideas set we actually voted on. And nobody on earth "needs" this thing.
Hi Ki,I wanna U come back to the new season of SW😂
Hi Ki,I wanna U come back to the new season of SW
What’re numbers 2 and 3?
@@meerkat1954 Guess it went too expensive, but i totally agree, tge original is far better.
The statue at 4:45 is a reference to the Native islanders sub theme. It's almost like the statue in set 6262.
clopec that’s what I was thinking!!
I knew I saw it somewhere before. :)
I want LEGO Adventure to return; Egypt, Jungle, Dino Island, and Oriental Expedition with Johnny Thunder were my most favorite series ever. (Indiana Jones and Pharaoh's Quest were okay I guess)
I love it! This is really coincidental, because I just took my Barracuda out of the attic and I have it right in front of me now. Am going to take it apart, clean it, and reassemble it, because younger me added a bunch of extra stuff that I thought looked cool back then, but actually looks like crap now lol. Since the virus outbreak and having to stay at home, I've cleaned and constructed multiple of my old Lego pirate sets, and put them on display, because it's such a shame to have them in the attic collecting dust. It's those old sets that I really like now, like Sabre Island, Lagoon Lock-up, and Shipwreck Island. But I also really like the Islander theme, for its vibrant colors. But yeah, set 21322 looks amazing. I'd buy it, were it not for the current crisis. Pirates has always been my favorite Lego theme. They should definitely keep it going.
*Man, that box art brought a tear to me eye.*
Fun Fact: The name of the kid Dark Shark is the alternate set name of the Black Seas Barracuda for European retailers.
I knew there had to be something with his name! Thanks for the info :)
And Captain Roger was Redbeard’s name in the UK at least
Lego bring back adventurers, castle, and pirates sets and you can have all my money.
Zach Dave dang Johnny thunder the legend
The best thing about this set is it's an idea I was already planning to make. It's not as green, wild, or tall as I was planning, but it'll make a really great, stylish base for me to build around. It's also great to see a new version of the Barracuda since I have the original, and I was considering how to raise it up and have more of a hold. This'll be really inspiring for me. I hope it's not too expensive... :(
It’s 200 bucks
@@wadewilson3296 I think that's fair, for a Lego set. Hopefully it'll come to stores near me where all Lego is always 10% off... If not I may have to look for it on Amazon or something.
Design a navy ship or fort for the barracuda to fight/raid.
@@zachdave3803 An island naval tower is in the works ;)
Maybe LEGO is scared to do larger themes like this but I’d rather have this than nexo crap or ninja go BS any day. I plan on buying this just to send LEGO the message THIS IS WHAT WE WANT
Ninjago is great, and people like it. It might not be your thing, but a lot of kids, teens, and adults like it. If they didnt, it would have ended long ago.
NinjaGo sells. That's why they've been doing them.
Couldn't have said better myself. Buying 2 pieces of this.
Logan Benda it used to be great when it used to be about ninjas a long time ago. Now I don’t know what it is
Ninjago's great, but yeah this would be better than Nexo Knights.
Already one of the Sets of the decade... Just epic!
Hope the sales of this one spawn a new pirate wave...
Didn’t even see official pictures for this set... wot?
They where released today and this is a early review
But...what about the droid attack on the Wookiee’s?
So from my knowledge of LEGO Pirates and the overall LEGO world this seems to be the current history of the Black Sea's Barracuda/Redbeard's crew:
Captain Rodger Redbeard obtains the BSB.
As Redbeard collects different ships such as the Skull's Eye Schooner, the BSB is pushed to the sidelines.
The BSB is purchased/stolen and eventually ends up in the hands of Captain Jack Knife.
Redbeard changes his main ship to the Brick Bounty, and eventually gives his monkey Spinoza and similarly named ship Brickbeard's Bounty to his son/grandson Brickbeard.
Captain Jack Knife takes the BSB on an interstellar journey to the remains of Planet Crux and settles down in Gnarled Forest.
Jack Knife's crew harvest a bounty of Maelstrom bricks and attract the attention of a Kraken. The Kraken hurls the BSB into a tree on the shore and it ends up a sort of treehouse.
The BSB is somehow recovered from the tree and (likely back on the Pirates' homeworld) is eventually run aground on a small deserted island.
Redbeard discovers the remnants of his old vessel and sets up a gigantic pirate hideout in its remains, creating the Barracuda Bay.
Alternatively I suppose Barracuda Bay could've been completely rebuilt into the BSB at some point and *then* taken by Jack Knife for the events of LEGO Universe but that makes a little less sense.
Man... this ship's had some history!
I really appreciate that they have the Islanders' head from the Enchanted Island and King Kahuka's Throne sets.
Somewhat miffed that there is no room for the cannons inside the ship. I'd probably rework the interior to fit them in the proper positions.
It's the purpose of Lego to do just that. But even the company itself mostly has forgotten about it.
There is a video of a review that you can actually work the cannons in you just have to move a couple pieces.
oldskoolblazerr what’s it called I’d rebuild it into that
@@CB-we1wf you can just move around the interior and take out the windows. The cannons will fit through if you remove the windows. You can also try moving the bar area and beds out for that operation and you will have it fixed! Hope this helps.
Ok, I need this set. I've always loved pirate ships and flag ships, but I've never gotten the change to get a proper Lego pirate ship.
Lego should make another imperial flag ship.
I'm getting this if I can as I never got original when i really wanted it and i missed the really good flag ship a few years ago now it sells for a fortune
@@roylaw7765 I'm in the same boat man.. no pun intended.
Roy law That would be awesome
Hmmm a resort ship not much of battle ready type. MOD IT. CLEAR THE FURNITURES, PREPARE FOR BATTLE!
very true! four lids on either side. they need to get put to good use
OMG I love it so much and I really really want this set, it's amazing.
And from the technical side I like the 'corrections' in the video, to do not lose a flow during shooting I guess, and still keep all the info true and correct.
I know there are going to be haters as always, but I personally can not even express how much I love it. As a child such a kind of Lego ship was too expensive for my parents in Eastern Germany and now it feels like a second chance. And it's a very lovely design although it's very far away from the original fan design. But the thing I like most is the imagination of all those shameless resellers offering 30-year-old used bricks, that are maybe worth 50$, for hundreds or even thousands of Euros, who are getting mad when they realize that their business has been broken.
Wow what a thoroughly entertaining review - and what a ship ! - LEGO have definitely come out with a new age version of a classic. Good stuff to the chaps at BrickVault and well done The LEGO Group.
I haven't been this excited for a Lego set in years! Years!!!
Those candles in the captains quarters are like the Organ that Davy Jones has in potc
This is really an amazing set! Thanks for the review, I felt like the build was a bit too clustered at first but I love how it comes apart to make the ship and an island!
Personally, if I got this set I'd just make it into the ship to begin with and not even bother with the other build. One of the few sets where I think the "alternate build" is the far superior build.
The first LEGO guys I ever got were 2 pirates from a kid in my school growing up. I lost all my pirates stuff years ago, so seeing this makes me so happy. I don’t buy a ton of licensed sets these days, (more custom stuff and pieces) but this is awesome, and I’m definitely getting it.
I'm 5 minutes in and I said "Ok I'm 100% gonna buy this" like 10 times
I didn't expect lego could turn an original lego ideas set into an even better one... Good job lego!
Oh my looking at the Barracuda Ship from 1989 makes me almost cry. What a nostalgic set, even in very good condition. Very nice review on the comparison
It's an amazing set, built in an old school style out of small pieces rather than large special parts... but...
...a pirate ship just should have cannons sticking out of every gun port...!
Yes I agree, the ship looks fantastic, but there should be a possibility to put the guns in the hold :D
I have 2 spare cannons, so when I get this, I’ll attach them. I wish they were officially there though
Looks Awesome! Nice bit of Nostalgia for the older fans of Lego while reintroducing old sets to current generations.
This set looks amazing! Normally I go for the modular town sets, but I was a HUGE fan of the original 1989 Lego Pirates when I was a kid, so the nostalgia alone will likely encourage me to pick this up. But the sheer level of features is next level!
I've never been a fan of stuff like this but wow this is absolutely awesome. The detailing is so great, I kinda want this now
You had the best review of this out here
4:30 is like a Easter Egg from Lego Islanders ;)
OOOooooooo you might be onto something
@@BrickVault yeah! I immediately recognized it as one of the statues from King Kahuka, never been able to get those, so I really got excited about it when you showed it!
Seriously got so excited when I saw that King Kahuka easter egg. I legit can't wait to buy this kit (x2) and relive my childhood. Hoping SO MUCH for a Lego Pirate theme reboot now that Star Wars is kinda at peak saturation and won't last indefinitely (plus licensing to partners kills profit, Lego have amazing history within the company to pull inspo from).
Very good review, Jack! You put a lot of work into this. Great to hear the Lego designers speak with you. Please ask them to suggest that Lego bring us a purple Classic Space Astronaut Mini-Fig! Cheers buddy, be safe and healthy:)
What you do with the extra parts is actually kinda smart. I'll have to do that, or something like it, when mine arrives! Great review!
I love this build! The statue is a great homage to the Islanders sets, which were the only Pirates related sets that I collected back in the 90's. This is a fantastic throwback to the Pirates sets. I do still have my castle sets, and I would love to see what you could do with Castle!
D set looks awesome... n wonderfull review on d set brick vault as usual... 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
It's nice to see LEGO go back in time and give an iconic set a fresh makeover.
Pure beauty. This is exactly how a pirate series should be like. Not that weird sets from the latest pirate wave. Perfection!
Thank you, great review and I've loved the comparison with the 1989 original set.
I had no idea this was coming out and happened to stumble on your video. Definitely going to buy, I love the pirate theme and have the Imperial Ship and the latest Pirate ship prior to this one.
I'm more Lego Star Wars but that is an amazingly beautiful set and I know a guy at work who grew up with Lego Pirates and I can't wait to show him this video :)
This is one of the best sets I have seen in years!
Mermaid print: *Exists*
BrickVault: "Gyarados!"
The detail absolutely gets me, it looks amazing.
Still have mine sitting in my dads office collecting dust. I remember my aunt got me it for Christmas and I nearly spoiled the surprise cause while no one was looking I pulled back the wrapping paper a tiny bit to reveal the word LEGO. Wonderful memories. 🙂
Honestly this set is the best thing any lego fan could've asked for! I remember building some pirate ships back in 2009 and I really enjoyed those experiences. This set brings back a lot of memories. I also appreciate all the easter eggs and the care put into this set. You also did a fantastic job with the review. Can I ask, do you edit these videos yourself, or do you have assistance from an editor? These must be very tough to make.
Final set up is like having two sets. Nice.
This is awesome! I am stoked to get it. Great review!
This set really is a real journey down memory lane. I'm hoping this means Pirates will get a re-release. Seeing that Sea Barracuda Ship makes me really wanna get back into the classic theme. Oh and the Islanders head piece in the sand, absolute genius. Fingers crossed Islanders comes back too
I love it - have some spare hull pieces, I’d be tempted to extend the hull a bit. I’m just a bit disappointed that there’s 8 gun ports, but only 3 cannon and they can’t actually be placed behind the gun ports without a bit of modification
Those "sea serpents" on Tattooga's chest at 19:43 are mermaids. 🧜🏻♀️
this is the second rewiew that I am watching and they both got it wrong xD I saw the mermaid immediately
Funnily enough, I found the original at my great aunt and great uncle's house.
Awesome set, perfect review well done ;)
I rebuilt my son's original Black Seas Barracuda about a month ago. It had been in pieces since the mid-.90's. The last time I put it together was Christmas 1989! Finding all of the parts was as much fun as the re-assembly,
Great vid, thanks so much. I got my original in ‘91 when I was 7, my son will open this on his 6th birthday 😊
4:35 this is a throwback to one of the original sets, it's the top of King Kahuka's throne, which is a really great detail.
Jimwar and the Tiki golem from lego battles
The new pirates set looks amazing! I love how you can build the bay or the fantastic ship!
This is going to be a buy for me. My nostalgia goggles are over 9000 after seeing this.
The green bottles are meant to represent rum, the only alcloholic beverage Lego allows to be represented in their sets. You could also add a small flame piece to it to make a Molotov cocktail
Thank you LEGO! I am definitely getting this. I hope they do more Pirates after this. I loved that theme.
This is probably one of the #1 sets of all time to me!
Excellent review of an instant classic. I believe that the hommage to the original was totally worth the deviation from the original Ideas concept. Now we have to refrain from buying two sets....
great review through and thru
very good video..I just bought this set 3 days ago..can't wait to build...
It would've been nice to include the new monkey mold from the Ninjago sets
I love this set and think I'll buy it (extra benefit is I'll have time to build it during lockdown!). I love the curvature of the ships hull going up the sides of the gunports. Only thing im not keen on is the fact they kept the windows in the gundeck even in the ship build. That'll change! Literal clearing for action of the beds too. Love the bow and figurehead too!
me- sees the stylized box design based off the old Lego box design
Also me - salivating over how cool this is.
Didn't know this was coming out. And now I totally need it in my life.
BrickVault I did some research and I found that that old native statue head was actually a part of a theme around the original pirates theme too. There were six of these sets released, and they looked pretty cool!
Die Vorstellung gefällt mir sehr gut. The presentation is beautiful. All the best, alles Gute. Sig
This is such an awesome set! Definitely going to buy this first day! My only question is that is it easy to convert it back into it's original form after you've built the ship?
This is one of the many reasons I love Lego.
This is a glorious set with a lot of heart put into it, Pirates is truly Gods Theme.
This Set + Razor crest 😍
Oh these brings back old golden memories... ^^
The Barricuda was my first big set. Definitely getting this new one!
This set is awesome! I am definetly going to add this set to my Pirate theme!
30:00 I always love it when my treasure chest leads me to a buried map.
You HAVE the original ’89 set?!? Isn’t that one of the most valuable/coveted classic LEGO set?!? DAMN.
The Quartermaster USED to wear an eyepatch for no real resson but to look like a cool pirate... Now a musketball took out his other eye and he had to swith the pach to cover the real wound ;)
I’m really happy that Lego resurrected the Pirate series👍 When I was 5 or 6 my parents bought me pirate ship (art. 6286) and it was outstanding set! Unfourtenately I’ve lost most parts of it( but couple of weeks ago I have found all the details from Captain Roger’s Shelter (art. 6279) and it is still making me happy as many years ago!)
2:09 I CUT THIS BOAT IN HALF AND ONLY REPAIRED IT WITH FLEX TAPE
Best LEGO set in a while!!!
combining two of these would make a fantastic pirate boat :) I had such great time playing with the original boat
Maaaaann, this is probably the best thing in 2020 so far😎😎😎😎😍😍
This looks so beautiful.
I can't wait to get this set on April 1st. I'm so sad I can't go to the LEGO store to pick it up ):
Thanks for doing this awesome comparison. I was never able to get the original because I was a kid with a terrible Lemonade stand.
This IDEAS set gives me a chance to live an alternate reality where my Lemonade stand made bank!
Considering the first LEGO set I ever got when I was about 3 years old was a Pirates one, namely the Rock Island Refuge, I absolutely need this one. As soon as the local store has it in stock, I'm snatching it for Easter.
Holy eff.. this set is a GEM.. TOY OF THE YEAR
