I have had 2 Smart cars now in 3 years, they are wonderful, I live in uk and am a female school bus driver, so one minute I drive a manual bus and next an automatic Smart car.
How much is it ?
One of the best fringe benefits of the fortwo is how much room it leaves in my 2-car garage for other things. In there I have an enclosed library, a Soloflex workout machine, a Total Gym, a Trio Trainer, free weights, 3 bicycles, a t.v., cabinets and benches all around, a revolving chair and much more. When I kicked out our other vehicle and put the smart in there, the rest of the garage really became much more useable. I could not do that with ANY other car. Just something to think about!

Unfortunately it's illegal to park end on in most countries, mainly because most European parking spaces aren't wide enough and that there are no side reflectors.
Fortunately it is so short, it is unnecessary.
Do they come in automatic in America? I hate manual, too complicated...
A 3rd pedal and a gear stick is complicated? Getting out of bed must be complicated for you as well.

Simply too expensive, starting from £11,200, and no diesel option which they dropped last year, not a problem for most of us, but it's the main reason i did not buy one.
Ive owned my CDI smart for over five years, and it returns great economy of an easy 70+mpg.
There are far too many cheaper alternatives to the new ForTwo, Skoda CityGo, Seat Mii, VW Up, Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo, Fiat 500, to name just a few.
All the above cars are cheaper to buy than the new Smart, and all of them return similar or comparable fuel economy.
In 1998, the Smart was so unique and fuel efficient, especially in diesel form, that there was nothing to compare it against, that has now changed.
Peter Lewis agreed. Though you might find diesel cars start to get a lot of stick in big cities. I've looked at all the tiny four seater city cars and preferred the smart to the others, the price difference does get me a more premium vehicle. with a nice reversing camera and 108 hp , I got a big discount on it too so it came in reasonably priced (just about ). if I was more concerned about the couple of grand price diff I would have skipped on the smart for sure and picked either a twingo or up or i10 etc etc

i like the 4 bolt wheels, so you're not stuck with 15, 16 and 17 wheels, maybe go down to 13 and get taller, better riding tires.

I have had several Smart Cars over the years. I have a 2016 453 model and would not hesitate to take it for a long road trip. Highly recommend!!
Sorry, but if you try to park that car 'NOSE-INTO-THE-CURB' here in North America, you will get yourself a parking ticket because that is not allowed here no matter how short the car is.
+Honesty Counts I guess that's only applicable to the United Stated. I'm not aware of any such regulation in place in México. Not familiar with Canadian regulations

Will there be a high (relatively) performance version? Renault had the twingo 133 right? In the US we only get the cosmetic brabus smart. Was hoping for something more akin to the fiat 500 abarth essess.
The 133 Renaultsport twingo was the previous generation which was a front engined car. The current twingo has a maximum horsepower output of 90 bhp
Shahul Usman there's the proper Brabus smart which is only 108 hp

I drive a full sized Dodge Ram (V8, 4x4, etc.) and when I'm behind these little guys on the highway I leave a LOT of room between my front bumper and their itty bitty rear bumpers. These things must be terrifying to drive on a major freeway system like Los Angeles! At least on a motorcycle you can lay it down or get thrown clear of the crash. These toy cars would make me claustrophobic. You'd feel like you were riding a moped while wearing a suit of armor in high speed urban traffic...

How tall is Jon? I'm 6 foot 5, I test drove the previous model last year and it was quite embarrassing, my head touched the ceiling and my knees were so cramped. I need to know if a tall driver can fit comfortably before I take another test drive in the new model. I really want to buy this! Someone help? Auto Trader

Auto Trader Thanks for replying. I've seen a RUclips video of a 7 foot man driving a Smart Fortwo in America, it's the older version and the one I couldn't fit into, embarrassingly. I'll have a go anyway, thanks for the insightful video.

I quite like it... I've owned a couple of Smarts before... I know this is new and better but it's a bit ugly and not as good looking, as safe or as good value as the Toyota iQ which has nine air bags and four seats but I do like the seat warmers and glass roof in this Smart which you cannot get on the iQ
edward mercer The Toyota IQ which in the USA is badged as a Scion IQ is not really a true four seat car as the company hails it to be. You can only get one adult in the back and even so it is a tight fit. I do know the Smart has a four seat version out called the four four which has a usable back seat and is a four door. I do like the new version of the Smart but i would like to see how it fairs out before i get it. I have a 2013 Smart now which i am pleased with.

Don't waste your time with this car. Get Picanto or Rio.
Absolutely no reason to buy this. It literally shares 70% of the parts with the Renault Twingo, which its based upon. You are paying more than a Twingo for a vehicle thats not any better or more stylish.

I love two seater cars. When we will have this in lndia?.
Let me tell you about my experience with a smart car. I bought a 2010 passion with a gas engine. After 3 months I add a thermostat failure forgot to mention the car add 42000 KMs . The cost $300.00 to replace and the work involved is nuts. A little while after 47000 KMs the starter let go very poor engineering the wire coming out of the starter to the bendix breaks off (corrosion). Usually a starter as a square bracket where you install a wire from the starter to the bendix but this as the wire coming out of the starter to the bendix so you can't fix it unless you change the brushes (not available).
Called the dealer to order a new one $780.00 or a jobber for $484.00 but non available.
The demand is so high for these starters that when after market come available they sell out with in a month. The worst service imaginable from the dealer my guess is they think of small money no service point. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CARS THE WORST CAR ON THE MARKET TODAY.

Just trying to warn people , they are terrible cars . I would maybe consider the electric model. There issues are with cooling system , starters, actuator . Electric model as none of those so a cheap option for all electric car.

Even a 2013 model would be way better than a 2010 model.. You shouldn't say keep away from all smartcars,. just because of a 2010 model.. The technology was still quite in it's infancy then.
